EUROSCENA

When politicians put their own aspirations ahead the country they represent it's time to call a spade a spade. Self-serving elected officials are doing nothing to move this country forward. Anyone who believes in "American Exceptionalism" should remember this when they go to the polls to vote.

Update: Someone on Reddit asked me what the difference was between Texas legislator Wendy Davis' filibuster of an abortion bill and Ted Cruz's soliloquy in the US Senate. My answer was that Davis' action was an attempt to stop what she thought was a restrictive abortion bill. Her filibuster had a goal: to talk until the Texas Senate's 30 day session ran out. On the other hand, Cruz had no intention of blocking the US Senate's bill. In fact, he looked forward to the vote. In addition, Davis' action was supported by her own party, while Cruz's infuriated fellow GOP Senators. The difference, as Dylan Byer, a writer at Politico stated was the difference between a filibuster with a purpose and grandstanding. He elaborates on the media's coverage of these two events:

Yes, the difference between filibustering and grandstanding plays a part. Equally important is the fact that Cruz's theatrics are frustrating members of his own party. But, part of the disparity in coverage is due to the fact that the mainstream media, generally speaking, don't admire Cruz the way they admired Davis — or rather, they admire him only insofar as he makes for tragicomic theater, whereas they admired her on the merits.

The saguaro looks like it has been sawed off and given a flat-top! No idea how it got that way.

I put her winter jacket on (so cute, it has a hoodie lol!). Of course I try to take a photo and as usual as will not look at me ;) She is wearing a buttugly collar because my mother in law took off her cute one and I have no idea where she put it >__<

My dad put his Christmas gift from me--a baking stone--to use for the first time yesterday with a homemade pizza. He made his famous pizza dough, some fresh sauce, and caramelized some shallots. I sweated some mushrooms, and then we used the fresh mozzarella he'd bought for the cheese. With a bit of fresh-grated parmigiano reggiano cheese atop, it was ready for the oven, and it came out like this!

Springtime on the shropshire union canal

MAY 2012

The Shropshire Union Canal was surveyed and engineered by Thomas Telford and construction began in 1827. There is a story that Thomas Jackson, in charge of the cutting of the canal, was lent £5 by a lady from Audlem when he ran short of funds. His luck turned and years later he had a stone erected and railings put round the grave of his benefactress in the old Churchyard. He himself was buried in the new Cemetery in 1885, aged 76.

The 39 mile stretch from Autherley Junction near Wolverhampton to Nantwich was opened to traffic in 1835, with 15 locks at Audlem taking the water level down from the Shropshire heights to the Cheshire Plain, some 93 feet (30 metres). During the period up to 1920 the canal was the scene of great commercial activity. All the boats were horse-drawn with the exception of the stone barges which were often pulled by donkeys.

The Shropshire Union Canal Company worked its own boats from the wharf each day and took goods from Audlem to Birmingham, London and Chester. Every Saturday morning a cheese boat was loaded and it was a common sight to see the roads to the wharf full of carts bringing cheese to be sent to Manchester. Twice a week fly-boats travelled between Birmingham, Audlem and Ellesmere Port. As speed was essential, they travelled on through the night, lit by huge oil lamps carrying up to 25 tons of butter, cheese, ham and grain, or coal, timber and limestone for road construction.

It must be the most photogenic festival I've visited in months, the crazy colorful Bungalup in Zeewolde, Holland. Put the house in carnival and use a fading bungalow park as center of this energetic universe. The result is a outrageous mdma-infused party that lasts for three days and includes a tropical swimming pool and lots of fake hair.

Put on your happy face everyone, it's Monday!

With the events of the weekend, I really wanted to have something to add to my ProjectLife album. I grabbed some images online, copied a portion of Obama's speech and added it to a Cathy Z template . . . and got this quick but meaningful layout.

I'll add a 8 1/2 x 11 page protector to my album this week. I think I'll put a copy of the front page of the newspaper and some "where I was when I heard" journaling to go along with it.

The Quincy Smelter operated for many decades in the early and mid-1900s, finally closing in 1972. The smelter processed copper ore from a number of nearby mines, exporting millions of tons of copper from the region over its lifetime. It sat derelict for many years before Franklin Township began stabilizing the ruins. Now that it isn't on a Superfund list, it will soon join the Keweenaw National Historic Park, which celebrates the area's rich mining legacy.

My publicist wanted to put some videos on my site, so she shot a few of me today. But if you look at the ones she put on YouTube and GoogleVideos, she narrated some of them. Today she didn't say anything, and I was waiting patiently for the narration. So as I share this series, you will see that although they emphasize my cuteness, they are a bit on the uneventful side. My publicist says she wanted to demonstrate the peacefulness of the gardens in which I live.

Please no invites...I know video is still controversial on Flickr (my publicist won't even put videos in her own stream) and there are lots of groups including my own that are not currently allowing them. I don't want to have to think that hard when I'm posting!

Try these videos of me (they are a little more interesting than the Flickr ones)--

took a lot of leg muscle to get this

but well worth it

I put together a series of photos comparing the Muni San Diego PCC [top] with the PCC operating in San Diego [bottom]. There are the obvious differences like trolley pole vs pantograph, curtain signs vs electronic signs and differing shades of green paint. But there is one difference that is less obvious. On the Muni car, they have "San Diego" painted on the side. On the San Diego car they have "Museum" painted on the side. Muni did this to acknowledge that this is a San Diego replica while the San Diego car was true to its historic roots.

A visit to the East Anglian Railway Museum.

The East Anglian Railway Museum is located at Chappel and Wakes Colne railway station in Essex, England, which is situated on the former Great Eastern Railway branch line from Marks Tey to Sudbury. Services on the Sudbury Branch Line are operated by Abellio Greater Anglia.

The museum has a wide collection of locomotives and rolling stock, some of which are fully restored, three are converted into Thomas, Percy and Toby replicas while others are undergoing repair and restoration. The Restoration Shed was built in 1983–4, before which most work had to take place in the Goods Shed or in the open. On event days, steam or diesel train rides are operated over a short demonstration track.

The museum also plays host to three popular annual events: the Winter Beer Festival held each February, the Cider Festival held each June, and the Summer Beer Festival held each September. During the festivals, additional late-evening trains on the Sudbury Branch Line allow festival-goers to return home by train subject to provision by the train operation companies. There are no moving exhibits during the festivals, although train carriages are usually open to sit in and drink, with one wagon doubling up as The Shunters Arms at the summer festival.

The museum was originally formed as the Stour Valley Railway Preservation Society on 24 September 1968. The SVRPS was established at Chappel & Wakes Colne Station in December 1969 after a lease was obtained from British Rail to use the vacant goods yard and railway buildings, including the station building. The first public steam day took place three months later.

The goods shed and station buildings were quickly restored; with a workshop being set up in the goods shed to enable maintenance and restoration work to be undertaken on the rolling stock.

The Stour Valley Railway Preservation Society was renamed to The East Anglian Railway Museum in 1986 to confirm its focus on representing railway history of the Eastern Counties rather than just operating trains. The museum gained charitable status in 1991 (Registered Charity No. 1001579) and became a Registered Museum in 1995.

Since 2005, the museum has had a greater emphasis on interpretation and display facilities, a large variety of events take place each year to raise funds to support the museum's activities.

British Railways Mk 1 Corridor Second Coach E24959

Built at Derby in 1956, this coach remained in service until 1981.

On withdrawal it was purchased by Museum Members Chris Wright and Bill Bourne and loaned to the Museum. It has since been in regular use on Operating Days, and upon refurbishment in 2002, it was generously donated to the Museum by the owners.

Please remember that you are in a Museum railway carriage.

Do not put your feed on the seats or interfere or play with any of the fittings. Thank you.

Pass the drumstick, not the virus. Let's make sure we all have something to be thankful about again next Thanksgiving. This year we are foregoing the annual multi-family gathering and are celebrating in a much more intimate way. Be safe out there, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

A Random House Beginner Book

Size: 9" (22.9 cm) tall by 6.75" (17.1 cm) wide

Pages: 61 pages

Format: Hardcover

This booklet is complete and in good condition. Nothing been cut from the booklet. The pages are in good shape. There is some wear and tear to the edges of the cover, especially the corners. Overall this is a complete, nice looking copy that is ready for another read.

This is a great vintage childrens book. It would make a great collectible or could be put to great use in your scrapbook, collage, altered art, card or mixed media projects.

The weather put a kink in the organizers plans at the annual Buskers Festival in Windsor, Ontario. As the clouds seem to be eating the RenCen on the Detroit side of the River, life still goes on despite the show being suspended. A volunteer turns down the seats under the supervision of a gull, while the people strolling by waited for the weather to break on Saturday.

I was feeling quite playful when we were in Sydney just before Christmas and decided to expermiment more with movement, focus, reflection and lines.

The images seemed to lend themselves to a bit of experimentation in post production too.
