These delightful plants put on a fresh sweet scented display every evening -- but definitely not by 4 o'clock :) Native to the Peruvian Andes, they do well with minimum care. Some seeds make it through our winters but it is best to collect and plant the next Spring after the last frost. (Mirabilis japonica)

although we are getting more and more questions about the big man in the red suit. my husband put it best when he said to Riley "trust me, it is way more fun to believe than not to"

When Gannet was put into this dock, those who undertook the job did not listen to advice given by the experienced dockyard mateys in that when going on to the docking blocks, the vessel should be ballasted so she goes down stern first - they totally ignored this, and started to tow her in with a tractor pulling a line around a square bollard - i could see that the line was about to break, and moved people away before it went with a bang! Then, as Gannet was eventually lined up with the plumb line, the water was released from the dock, and as she hit the first of the docking blocks, and before the 'cowboys' put in the docking poles, over she went, damaging the bilge keel amongst other things

Gannet is a composite vessel, sail or Steam, steel frame, wooden plates.

I just put 8 pounds of raw, lean beef down for “the long sleep.” I hadn’t planned on making another batch so soon after making pounds and pounds of delicious Asian spice jerky to send to an Aggie Marine in Florida, but the “big ass” industrial slicer was out as well as the “big ass” stainless steel dehydrator. And, they both had been sanitized.

Some Aggies might ask, “Why did you send all that jerky to an Aggie Marine?” Well, it’s because I’m, wait for it… awesome.

I do get tired of making the same tired old lame jerky flavors. I like the spicy stuff! If you don’t like spicy and hot beef jerky that burns your lips… well, “NO JERKY OR SOUP FOR YOU!” Tonight’s batch was an experimental batch, or what I like to call, an “X-Batch.”

For this “Double TOP SECRET X-Batch” of jerky, I used fresh ginger root and garlic as the aromatics. I roasted them up in a saucier and added Dr. Pepper, apple cider, and lemon juice for the liquid. Then I added a sensible quantity of habanero peppers, Asian red peppers, and Hatch, New Mexico chiles. There might have been some honey and brown sugar involved as well.

I sliced the beef as thick as I dared for jerky and I shall let the meat marinate for about 3 days before dehydrating it. There was no fat cap on the roast so assuming with the typical 50% water loss, I should get about 4 pounds or ~$100.00 worth of finished product.

I was terribly worried about what I was going to do with all this jerky until I remembered that I know retired Army NCOs here on the Jersey Shore and that they will eat just about any type of jerky I give them. QED. Problem solved!

We shall see how this “X-Batch” turns out in about 3 or 4 days. God willing.

Put this together for my bro and it took for ever. By the end I was absolutely exhausted. Mind you not a bad little unit. Time to put the web design brain back on.

The Newmowa Waterproof Case for Polaroid Cube on my bike.

I have been meaning to put this on my bike for a while.

This is my first vid test.

The kit I ordered came in a good quality camera case plus the case to put the Polaroid Cube into and the bike attachment.

My aim is to leave the Polaroid Cube in the waterproof case to protect it from dirt and water.

One thing I have found is that while the Polaroid Cube I have (Polaroid Cube HD 1080p Lifestyle Action Video Camera) does record sound, my vid editor does not read the sound, only the vision. So I only get film and no sound. However I suspect sound would be bad in the waterproof case. Also if your doing such vids, your best to record the sound separately anyway.

Inside the NASA Orion "Multi Purpose Crew Vehicle" (MPCV)

NASA put one of its Orion Multi Purpose Crew Vehicle (MPCV) capsules on display for three days at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. NASA Spokesman Don Huot explained that this capsule is a low fidelity model used for fit checks prior to the launch abort test that took place in 2010. It does not have any interior components but is a full scale mockup of the spacecraft’s structure.

I'm no longer involving myself with invite only groups / special groups - something odds going on. I put this here because I know that a few of my friends/contacts are administrators of groups. A few weeks ago I told one, who had invited me to a group, that I no longer did such invites because it takes too much time to do, especially when I can use that time to visit my contacts. Plus the awards are too much! Last year, sometime around summer, I spent almost half a day trying to meet the requirements of particular groups (comment on 3, fav 6 - there's one group that requires you to comment/fav 1 image from the first page then choose 3 from subsequent pages - some of the rules are almost diabolical -- LOL). Yet, I involved myself because I felt good that someone somewhere thought the images were nice enough for an invite. And I don't think its fair to just plop down an award without commenting or expressing why you like the image. So I always comment and will fav if I really like it. But most folks simply plop down the award and leave.

But I don't know, it might be that the group in question "invite only group" is shady. I was invited. Against my better thoughts, submitted the photo and spent a couple of minutes searching through the group to find images I liked. I found 3, commented and left the icon that's required and fav'd them. Then one person visited my page, awarding my image an icon. Now the award is gone and my photo has been removed from the group. I'm baffled and a bit hurt! But not hurt enough to write the admn to find out why . . . its their group, perhaps after second thoughts someone decided the photo wasn't good enough.

I need to clean up my group list anyway - I only post to a few groups. I know that all groups aren't run this way but this simply opened my eyes more and I should have stuck by what I told my contact a few weeks ago. I guess this is simply a reminder to do what I say I'm gonna do. Still there are groups that I truly enjoy.

Who put that ruddy ladder there??? I was lining the shot up as it came towards me - it SHOULD have stopped at the marker but carried on past it. I swung round with my eye in the viewfinder and clicked as it came to rest. I thought nothing more of it.....until I got the prints back.......

Put on your shades and let the world pass by.

In between running, this tiny jumping spider put it's first two legs up in the air like an ant's antennae. Maybe no one told it that it really couldn't pass for an ant.

Found in a wooded area by the river near Palo, Iowa.

It bears a resemblance to this Hammerjawed Jumper (Zygoballus rufipes) bugguide.net/node/view/136280/bgimage

Interestingly, one of my earlier spiders seems to be one as well, even though they don't look much alike. See the first comment box below.
