The current City Hall building is a near-50-year-old structure that has served the city well but, in its current state, is functionally obsolete. Built in 1969, the current City Hall requires major renovations that are complicated by the presence of friable asbestos and the way the electrical and mechanical systems were installed.
On October 3, 2017, Virginia Beach city council unanimously approved a resolution to proceed with the design of a new city hall building. The new three-story structure adjacent to the current city hall, between Buildings 1 and 2, is under construction and progressing well.

The window is now wide enough for a door and the decorative stonework being reconstructed in the bigger hole. Also some sewage pipes and manholes on site.
From September 1st to 5th the first of the four JCOM Masterclasses, educational programmes aimed at an international audience and held by international experts takes place. For the 20 selected participants the course represents a unique opportunity to better understand the relationship between science and society and learn new methods to promote debate between scientists and the general public, such as discussion games and science cafés.
This piece in Conte crayon represents the contrast between progress with and without understanding which is so critical in todays world. A steam locomotive billows smoke from its coal fire destroying the world while the bicycle represents a simple and pure transportation mode. The nude female is unburdened by prior understanding but instead seeks to understand the choices put before her. This is representitive of both the scientist and the child, with natural curiosity and unburdened opinion which is a far departure from the rest of the world who are driven by greed at the expense of the greater good.
