The Bhakti Yogi would not argue that our present version of human civilisation is progressing. The question, though, is “in which direction?” The recent tragic shooting of dozens of innocent people at two Mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, by a white supremacist graphically illustrates the inevitable result of the present attempt at human progress. Encouraging humanity with the Sanskrit phrase tamasi ma jyotir gama - “Don’t stay in the darkness, come to the light” - Yoga wisdom guides the fortunate toward real progress. What is the darkness? A material conception of the human being. When we think “I am my body - I am my race/gender/age/ethnicity/nationality/profession/sexuality“ etc, we are in darkness about our true identity, Bhakti luminaries affirm. On this shadowy basis, others, with different bodies to ours, are seen as separate from us, as competitors for scarce resources, and as objects of envy when they have more than we do. Naturally inequality, exploitation and conflict follow. “Coming to the light” is explained in the Bhagavad Gita, “One who is actually situated on the spiritual platform is self satisfied and always joyful. Such an enlightened person has no hankering or lamentation and thus sees and treats all creatures equally as spiritual beings.” Fortunately, real progress - bridging the gap between darkness and light - can be easily achieved by regular meditation on the non-material sound of the Maha-mantra: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. This spiritual technology simultaneously cleanses the consciousness of all false identifications and reawakens our non-material identity as parts of the Complete Whole.
my progress on the Storytime Sampler (by the Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery) - with a few modifications (mostly in colour, plus the addition of some backstitching and french knots)
Progress continues on the farmhouse renovation as we sort out what to keep and what to toss (including a mattress box spring made in 1945) and start to imagine the remodeling projects.
