Poutine= french fries, gravy and cheese curds... a regional specialty. When I showed this picture to my mom, her first response was, "What were you thinking?!"

Day 1 of vacation was jammed packed. We got into Chicago really early and had about two hours to kill before meeting up with some folks from AV Club. For some crazy reason, we decided to be go-getters and schlepped all the way down to the Field Museum. The plan was to hit up the Bio-luminescence exhibit because, hey, tanks of glowing animals are awesome! Yeah, well... The exhibit didn't have those things. Instead it had giant models of lightning bugs and some jars of mangled deep, deep sea blobs.

Fortunately, the AV Club meetup was much more exciting! And then we chased that with dinner and cocktails (and cocktails and cocktails...) at Sable.

not Canadian? here's poutine explained.

Slightly heart healthier take on poutine. Baked potato instead of fries, cheese curds, caramelized onions, beef gravy.

Instant Heart Attack in Quebec.

"Poutine Amelioré" baking in the oven. Batch on the left has already cooked for 20 minutes and now has little cubes of cheap cheddar cheese melting in the potato cone. Batch on right is on the first bake, still in the muffin tin to help retain the cone shape.

Le plat traditionnel québécois par excellence. La poutine du Patati Patata à Montréal est surement la meilleure de Montréal... loin devant celle de la banquise.

More Canadian cuisine...

Ordered a burger and poutine that had vodka in it. First time I've had actual poutine in the UK, I think. This is called "Vladimir Poutine" and apparently has vodka in it. My eyes were bigger than my belly though, and this was pretty garlicky, not to mention big. After the burger, i didn't get through much of this :[

Really good poutine at Leslieville Pumps. This was also my very first poutine ever, so it was good to get off to such a yummy start. :D

Poutine - on a Terrasse -only in Montreal

We went to Feenie's Restaurant for dinner the other night. Probably one of our last dinner outings before the baby...

Not quite up to quebec standards, but not bad!

This delicious poutine is from Root's cafe on Main street.

This guy delivered a spirited rant proclaiming his love of poutine... real spirited.

The Fishery and Chips obviously had fish and chips on their menu and they also had poutine, so why not combine the two? I liked these more for the novelty of having poutine with my fried fish but the poutine was okay as the fries (and these definitely were not chips) were too skinny.

Oh man it kicks so much ass...definitely go to Route 99 for poutine!

This was once a rescue vehicle. Some wags might say that it is driving in the opposite direction now.
