i'm posting this one early because i'm afraid i might not have time tomorrow.
it's a pretty funny video, i hope you guys enjoy! (:
ps. there's really no point for this, other than it was fun to make and watch, so yeah.
Yay, I have finally finished posting Whooping Crane photos! They are such special, ENDANGERED birds that I felt I should document them in reasonable detail. Also, I doubt I will ever get the chance to see them again. What an amazing, fascinating time we spent with them, especially this family of three. Thank you, Lori, captain of the Lady Lori boat, for this wonderful experience! Something that will never be forgotten.
What a wonderful family, with the youngster (colt) learning how to preen and how to catch food, especially from watching Dad. Our presence seemed to have zero affect on these Cranes, as they went about their daily routines. So neat to know that all these Whooping Cranes will fly north to Alberta, my own province, where they will spend the summer. Wise birds, avoiding our many months of brutal winter weather up north!
This is a Youtube video that shows the capture of a wild Whooping Crane adult and a tracking device being attached:
"Before human interference, there were believed to be 15,000 to 20,000 whooping cranes, which fell to roughly 1,400 in 1860 and then plummeted to an all-time low of 15 birds in 1941. All signs pointed towards the end of the whooping crane.
The 15 surviving whooping cranes all belonged to one flock that migrated between Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada and the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas. Conservationists worked with local, federal, and international governments to protect the flock and encourage breeding. Their efforts paid off slowly as the numbers reached 57 by 1970 and 214 by 2005."
www.nwf.org/Educational-Resources/Wildlife-Guide/Birds/Wh...
"Cellular Tracking Technologies is privileged to be working with the scientists employed by both the US and Canadian federal governments in the international team effort to monitor and protect the last remaining natural population of the Whooping Crane (Grus americana).
The so-called “Wood Buffalo-Aransas” population is the only remaining group of Whooping Cranes that has continued to nest, migrate, and overwinter in the traditional areas where they were first documented by Western ornithologists. The entire Whooping Crane species consists of only 437 wild individuals among four populations, three of which were artificially reared and reintroduced to the wild, plus 162 individuals in captivity (as of 2011). However, the only surviving remnant of the naturally-occurring Whooping Crane population is the Wood Buffalo-Aransas flock, consisting of only 283 individuals (as of the winter of 2011-12). This is the only group of Whooping Cranes that has managed to continually pass on the traditional ways of life of this species, in an unbroken chain of chick-rearing and parenting by birds that can live more than 30 years in the wild.
The vital nesting grounds lie in the vast Wood Buffalo National Park, the largest national park in Canada. The park is an immense area, a sprawling 17,300 square miles (44,807 km²), spanning northeastern Alberta into the southern Northwest Territories. Amazingly, Wood Buffalo National Park is larger than nine US states.
The equally vital wintering grounds lie in southern Texas, along the Gulf of Mexico. In winter, Whooping Cranes are seafood aficionados, preying on blue crabs and clams in the brackish Gulf Coast marshes. Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, near Rockport, TX, is one of the few areas of protected public property where people can reliably visit and expect to see these rare and special birds. This is also the exact area where Hurricane Harvey came ashore as a powerful Category 4 storm on 26 August 2017, with sustained winds of 130 mph (209 km/h). Hurricane Harvey went on to set records for both the astounding amounts of rainfall in the Houston metropolitan area, as well as the cost of the damage inflicted to human structures. The storm is currently tied with 2005’s Hurricane Katrina as the costliest tropical cyclone to hit the United States. Luckily, the Whooping Crane population was still up in Canada when the storm hit." From link below.
War Years Remembered is not a state-run museum. Due to the various lock-downs over the past year the museum has suffered greatly, with almost all of our annual income lost. All through lock-down the team at War Years Remembered has continued to support anyone requiring research from documentary makers and authors to families and veterans, all for free.
Our long-term goal for War Years Remembered is to find a permanent home and seek accredited museum status. Our dream is to become a major attraction that will provide an enjoyable, interesting and educational experience to all who visit.
We are fighting to survive the Covid-19 pandemic but we need your help. To survive and remain in our present location, we currently need to raise £50,000. With this money we can continue our vital work in remembering our veterans and the collection will be preserved for the education of future generations.
We were inspired by our late veteran 'Captain Tom' and our younger volunteers came up with the idea to walk 'in the footsteps of heroes'. So, over the coming weeks we will be using treadmills to walk 602 miles, the distance from our museum in Ballyclare to the beaches of Normandy, a journey undertaken by so many young men and women who fought in the Second World War. We will be posting regular updates on our progress and we hope you enjoy watching our journey.
Please give what you can, please help save War Years Remembered.

Nessus sphinx (Amphion floridensis)
I found this little guy on my back porch this morning. I am a big fan of sphinx moths and I'm always excited to see one that I've never seem before. I had to do some quick research to discover the species, but it turns out I'm not the only fan since there were quite a few postings for this guy.
The Nessus feeds on the nectar of flowers throughout the day and at dusk. It hovers over the flowers much like a hummingbird while feeding.
Posting this black & white Skagit scene to show my home community in a way few dare to look at my Skagitonia. Thoughts welcome.

We like sending postcards to Reg.
We don't need an excuse like being on holiday, no. If we've been shopping for groceries, or even if we've watched some telly, we'll send Reg a postcard about it.
To read the card, best clicky here then.
Probably should know by now I have been later than late at posting my photos of the day because well there's clearly only a few short weeks and this year and photo project is done. I apologize I actually just took this photo but in any regard I was staring at the clock seeing that it is overall not the time I expected, nor planned! Monday was a good day (besides waking painfully early for work) I open my eyes to see a very sleepy Matt and that's always a good image. As he says he sleeps like the dead which I can attest to that being truth. Fromm there I had to get up, shower, get ready for work, and then work. After that I helpers my coworker and friend unpack at the new place she's staying at. :) For my age.... This was genuinely the first time I helped someone move! Afterwards Matt made chili so we stopped and got sour cream, cheese, and chips and headed to his place. Once full on chili I Facetimed Chris and talked to Andrew when Matt took Katie home. When Matt returned it was practically his bed time already and I wasn't ready to go home so I stayed. I guess although I'm sure my readers have noticed Matt's appearance I've not really explained all of that. I spotted Matt months back and seriously knew right away I wanted to become his friend. Our friendship started up in October after being invited to hang out multiple times and me turning down the idea because in had alternate obligations. One Sunday though I made it. I got to know him as he made meat loaf and cookies. Continued to have him become my friend during all the games we played that night with some friends. I instantly saw him as a best friend cause we meshed. But when my life changed a bit at the end of October I was able and enjoying to hang out with him more. He's very bright. Knows a lot about things that sometimes I don't even understand. Like the different types of knots or weird computer talk. ;) He doesn't just always agree with me, in fact some times downright challenges me. Tells me all the time how lucky he is and is always willing to answer my million and one questions with a smile. We definitely have more similarities cause as much as I don't want to admit it.... I call him nerdy all the time, but I know I am too. But we have a fair amount of difference to make it an interesting pair. :) I guess I felt like it was important to share cause after roughly two months of us hanging out and him becoming a key ingredient to my life you should know :)

Everything in this dealership is about "Power"!
Took 148 shots.
Thought to do an abstract to try to include as many "Power" machines as possible.
The vehicle that is being used to reflect on is, in the words of the salesman "the most powerful Bently sportswear made.
The Blue car is a Lamborghini.
The silver car is an Audi Sports car.
Far left rear is a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Power, Power and more Power.
Used a 1.0 sec. exposure at w/f7.1
To get the colors out of the reflected images I had to crank up the exposure when editing. Did most editing in Bridge. Finished in Photoshop Sharping and finishing with a Gaussian Blur to soften it up. Wasn't sure whether to use the blur. Some would, some not.
If posting tag our Facebook: www.facebook.com/dubempireflorida and our Instagram: @dubempire
These are photos I’ve taken the past year and a half. It’s mostly stuff from local car meets, long exposures, exploring with b&w film and just all round shooting anything I like.
Posting these photos of our small community Memorial Day Parade from 2016, four years ago!
Since we won't be able to have a parade this year due to the pandemic restrictions, it's fun to remember past years, and for some reason these photos never got posted.
So enjoy the small down of Dexter's usually annual Memorial Day Parade!

This is a photograph from a large set of photographs from the SSE Airtricity Dublin Half Marathon 2015 which was held in the Phoenix Park, Dublin, Ireland on Saturday September 19th 2015 at 10:00. This half marathon is the final race in the SSE Airtricity Dublin Race Series which sees four races organised over the summer months in preparation for the Dublin City Marathon in October. This half marathon is one of the largest mass participation sporting events in Ireland and is by far the largest individual half marathon race in Ireland. Almost 7,000 participants took part in the race today which is ran almost entirely in the Phoenix Park. To help with congestion on the race course the race starts in three separate waves which allows faster runners start first. The weather was cool and dry with just a little breeze. Overall the weather was very suitable for road racing and running. The next challenge or race for those taking part today is the Dublin City Marathon at the end of October 2015.
These are completely unofficial and non-commercial photographs. The photographers or this Flickr account is not affiliated in any way to the SSE Airtricity Dublin Race Series. . You should consult the official website of the series [sseairtricitydublinmarathon.ie/] or their social media channels [www.facebook.com/dublinmarathon] for information about official race photography.
However - just because these are unofficial photographs this does not mean that they can be used without properly giving credit to us as the photographers. This includes ANY means by which you reproduce the image including screenshots on mobile devices, cropped or edited version of the photographs from here, etc.
We have a large set of photographs from the event today. The full set is accessible at: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157658800258546 - They were taken at the start and finish of the event.

When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.
I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?
If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets
Ok she's going to kill me for posting this.
This is my mom, during one of our trips to GA during our relocation process. She was getting hot flashes due to the stress, and had a MAJOR, um, "power surge" while we were in the car. It was December in Georgia, and it was COLD (at least to us Floridians) so we were all bundled up in coats, hats and scarves. Well my Mom starts freaking out, screaming "get it off of me, get it off of me!!" while trying to peel off all the layers of sweaters she was wearing. Then she nearly strangled herself trying to get rid of her scarf, before finally sticking her whole face, neck, and hands to the car window. I swear I almost heard "HISSSSSSS" and saw steam come off. I got this shot as the surge was subsiding. I was laughing too hard to photograph it while it was happening.
Mean, I know, but just for the record she was laughing about it too.
