White Rose For Remembrance

It is with sadness I post this image this morning. My dear Flickr mate Graham www.flickr.com/photos/105795663@N04 passed away yesterday, after a battle with cancer.. Graham will be very much missed for both his wonderful images and keen sense of humour.

I am sure you will all join with me in sending condolences to Ingrid, his wife.

I am posting this in the 100 Flowers Group as up until last year Graham had participated in the group.

- a gift from Clare (but not made by her) who brought it back from a trip downtown to Glasgow with Ray when I stayed behind in her flat for a small siesta (I'm quite expert at such!)

posting for :

Macro Mondays: ring

I have photographed the ring on one of my scarves....

I am taking a few weeks break and I hope to be back posting again towards the end of May.

I leave you with another photo of a Robber Crab from Christmas Island. This one, I found clinging onto a side of a rock and that allowed me to photograph it from an interesting angle.

More about this photo on my Blog and Facebook page.

I am sure a few Pics have already made an appearance in the past but if you can tolerate my crap then you can also tolerate me Sunbathing and drinking a little Red wine this month.

There are lots of Projects in the Pipeline.

Next Month will be devoted to a New Theme....".EUCALYPTUS" ...of which 4 pics will be present here.

Hope you like the Stuff.......Cheers!!!!!

Tenerife 2015

Shall be posting an Image a day for the next year, 365 (or 366 if it is a Leap year...not checked!!).

The Format will be different...some images have been shown before, some are new...... At the moment I am now starting a "New" Project.....Well it is "New" for me, although it has been done before by many, many People too!!!.

I will follow the direction I have chosen but there is plenty of room for me to chop and change at a later date...I guess it depends how I feel about it at a later date.

This Project will now give me the time to work with other ideas I am playing with. There will still be months in which I post other pics too from themes I have worked with in the past......I have just made a little more time and space available to me.

So hope you like the changes.......

Posting a color full day in the backyard.

Posting the same shot with a monochrome treatment because I just can't decide which I prefer.

Posting this image from December taken at the condo lagoon. It's too cold and windy for shooting today and will be for a few days.

I'm posting my comment on this photo a day after because I didn't want to break the magic of the pic , sadly this is the last time Holly will swim in this lake that was built to cover a dump ,( just found that out )

Since I took this pic the level of the water as lower a full 2 feet , it will soon become a mosquito infected swamp , I am shock to see the level of pollution I have discovered in my forest.

That evolution don't affect us all as human bean is sad , I really wish I could go back in time and see Canada just 500 years ago :o(

After posting lots of Eurasian shots recently I must add the American version which payed a brief visit to Fife in November last year. It was on a small pond although quite distant and the light was anything but perfect with a low raking light at about 90 degrees. It was nice to get the two Wigeons a couple of days apart.

Last posting of 2024 Spring Warbler Migration

I photographed 23 different warblers this spring (Late April to Late May)

ITALY

Here are more images of Italy, this time from Florence, probably taken more than a few years ago. This is the second of two postings.

Continuing with my winter theme of posting dragonflies & bugs I've rarely if ever posted ...

A White Peacock at the wonderful Corkscrew Swamp (you could encounter bears & panthers on the boardwalk) near Naples, Florida ... just before Christmas in 2009. I've never heard of a Peacock stray making it up here but a few do wander from their very southern range.

Posting this a bit super quick as I was only there this morning.

I have just spent a week in the Lake District being totally rained on. I do have one or two photos to post but it wasn't the best, it was just a massive recce really!

So I was very happy to be here this morning amidst some epic Autumn conditions.

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. I got REALLY into Black Desert Online lately. It is so addicting! Anyways I will be posting more sl posts soon. For now, here is a photo of my tamer Tangeriine in BDO.

So here I am posting two versions of the ssme photograph. Every now and then I like to delve into my archives to see what I have shot in the past and in particular to see if I have shot something that really captures me but managed to escape me at the time.

I wonder whether you prefer the panoramic 3:1 crop or the full size image which captures the clouds in the sky?

This was taken from the coast of the Isle of Arran on the Firth of Clyde, North Ayrshire, Scotland. The island is nicknamed Scotland in Miniature and if you visit, you will see the reason with the mountains to the north and the lowlands to the south and the almost perpetual rain.

A wee critique on these shots would be much appreciated.

Posting and running. Catch up later. Thanks for visiting.

posting this snap from last October today, because as of this morning as i have an agreement to rent a house in this small fishing village, starting in August, while i work on my Fulbright research — cannot wait!!

Posting some quirky shots from an outing at Shelby Farms, Memphis, Tn. This is a painted lady working the zinnia blooms.

This was the absolute highlights of our trip to Texas for me! When we visited in 2017, we spent a good amount of time looking for these Aplomado Falcons and found them a couple of times but no great photos to be had on that trip. Still such a major thrill to finally see them that year. This year's encounter has made up for every trip and every mile we searched in vain looking for them in the five previous years!!

We found them in nearly the exact location as in 2017. It was overcast and windy as hell but they were hunkered down and we used the car as a blind. So amazing. I still remember every detail.

I am so behind in my Texas photos but today is the perfect day for posting these beautiful little falcons. There is reason to celebrate even more in that this week (June 5, 2019), the 500th Aplomado Falcon nestling was banded in South Texas since 1995!!! This is such fantastic news as a mere 24 years ago, this falcon was extirpated (extinct from part of its original range) in the US from loss of habitat and likely climate change.

The Peregrine Fund started releasing captive-bred juveniles. Artificial nesting platforms were innovated to keep Great Horned Owls from preying on the Aplomado nestlings, habitat was managed to provide better natural nesting sites, and partnerships were formed with state agencies and landowners to ensure success. I would definitely call this a HUGE SUCCESS!!! This article made me so very happy.

Good morning everyone. Today's posting is the 7th in a series of different grasshoppers photographed by yours truly, and as the title indicates the last I'll be posting this year on grasshoppers. Of which I'm sure many of you will be thankful about :-)

With that said, featured today is the Red-legged Grasshopper (Melanoplus femurrubrum), which without a doubt is the most common grasshopper found here locally. Especially this past season where in some areas such as the reclaimed strip mine that I visit often there seemed to be zillions of them. You couldn't take a step without at least a dozen or so jumping & flying away in front of you. But in spite of so many they aren't the best of photo subjects. Just not very co-operative when it comes to posing for pics.

As for these photos, I thought I would start the set off with a pic of a Red-legged nymph. Late stage instar, so it's not fully developed as evident by the undeveloped wings, which in the above photo look like a black triangle just behind the pronotum. As for the rest of the photos in the comment section and my stream, they're all of adults.

I hope you enjoy this last grasshopper series and as always, don't forget to click on "view previous comments" if you don't see the additional photos in the comment section. Even better, scroll to them by clicking on the arrow thingy to the right of the above pic. And if you want to any pic in the comment section large all you have to do is click on it where you'll also find the full text describing this very common North American grasshopper.

Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you're having a truly nice week.

Mainly, I am posting photos that were not included in this set of the past weekend's Pitchfork Music Festival. However, this photo really bothered me in the sense that I preferred this crop but couldn't manage it with that website's specifications so I am showing this version, which includes more of her vivid red outfit.

After posting somber pics the last two days, I decided post something cheerful. I hope these pics of June puts a smile on your face.

Scroll to see "out-takes".

Update: If you want to LAUGH....scroll down to "LeapFrog!" 's comment and click on the link he provided. Cute video...really short ...but a real hoot.

The old post by the jetty has become a regular spot for our local cormorants and shags.

Yes, I know it's truly spring, and I'm posting a truly autumnal piece. Well, I've never been one to stand on ceremony (I'm not even sure that that metaphor is appropriate), but I came across a backup drive for my Windows 7 PC that finally gave up the ghost a year ago this week. That drive has some of my favorite shots from the last 23 years. Today, I'll start with January 2000...

Just kidding. It may be quite a while before there's a method to my madness. We have Monday Dogs (and a new one that I just took yesterday); Wednesday Woodpeckers, and on the drive, there are at least a dozen fairly good Nuttall's from a separate file I made for the year I was able to witness the female making the nest, then the two parents rearing the two chicks, and then them fledging and disappearing from this territory. With the other surprise of a whole file of butterflies, maybe Fridays should be Fluttering Friday. And on and on.

Anyway, there are a few very things that I miss about growing up in Massachusetts. Lobster, fried clams, blue jays, and autumn in a house surrounded by sugar maples. When I found this tree at the beginning of the pandemic, it brightened my mood, but I soon realized that one maple tree does not make for autumn. Still, it's better than nothing.

A word to the wise: If a 1T USB Flash Drive by SanDisk or Western Digital or some other established firm is selling it for $75, and you find a sale by a company whose name you can't pronounce (but think it sounds like one of the medicines you take) is selling it for $28.50, do not go by the price. Soime "USB 3" are "USB 2" and some won't even plug in. That's all I'm going to say, but if someone wants to buy two 1T drives, I'll sell them at the same price I got them for: $28.50.

Posting just because I like it. Totally out of character...because I know you know I don't like colour...AT ALL.

;)

Sending you some love in this happy season :)

Posting just to upload something. I'm really frustrated at myself for how horrible all the photos I've been taking are. Hopefully I'll make something good soon.

This is from the summer, and the post-processing was really frustrating and there are still things that i don't like. I like it because the water looks good but i don't like the colors very much. My face looks weird too. Oh well.

Posting some form Italy today, and from a street in Napoli. A scooter on the way down onto busy roads, and I wanted to capture this differently, but everything was moving so quickly, constantly changing the scene.

Today I am posting 2 photos of a boreal toad I found last year in Northern Washington. The first photo was shot at F7.1 to give more depth and to show more details in the forest and flowers in the background. The second photo was shot at F4 to have a softer more blurred out bokeh background where you can still see the forest but the details are obscured so as to put more focus on the toad. I would be glad to hear which of these photos you think best epitomizes the theme: "Into the Forest".

Thanks in advance for any comments and faves.

Today is another Pardalote day, trying to get through posting all the photos I have of these gorgeous little birds, hope you're not getting too sick of them.

I am posting this photo as a record shot of yet another Life Bird for Me. This has been a banner year for Me, adding many new and exciting birds to My Life List.

Posting a bit early as I'll be busy tomorrow morning. Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone.

This is Bodie California. It is the largest ghost town in the U.S. This is a late afternoon shot of part of the town. I will be posting more images of this fabulous place right along. I hope to be giving you more historical information as I post more images.

Posting this very late, or early depending on how you think of it, 1:30 am. Should be sleeping but decided to see if the Milky Way could be seen from my location tonight. Near Murdo South Dakota at a decommissioned State Scale. Besides a little traffic very dark and a clear sky, tons of stars visible. Even with the naked eye you can barely see the Milky Way. (when you know where to look) I was in bed about to sleep when I decided to check the SkyView app and see if the Milky Way might be visible. Not the greatest Milky Way shot, shutter a little too long so the stars are not round. Only able to take a couple of shots, the intermittent traffic messed up a couple of tries, and then the wind began to blow and my tripod was not staying steady enough. Anyway, pretty happy with how it came out, imperfect as it is.

The foreground, farm and lake was taken in Minnesota off I-94 on the 4th of this month. So if you're looking at my camera settings that's why they don't make sense. They were for the day time shot of the farm. Used Luminar 4 to add my Milky Way, and Light Room to put some Milky Way reflections on the lake.

I've been visiting a few of you each day, will keep doing that. So far it looks like you've all been staying safe, at least those of you I've had a chance to visit. Hope that's the case for all of you.

On my way to SoCal, then home later next week for a few days.
