Gambia tour 2020.
==============
JOY OF JOYS, my brother spotted and called HOOPOE, no way I thought !!! But yes it was, our first sighting in the Gambia. Bless its heart, it let us very near, and I have over 100 keeper images, it was completely relaxed, and never stopped grooming itself, a experience I will never forget . Seen in the Kotu area.

A BULKY, broad -winged raptor , medium sized bird of prey, and still not that many in the south-east area of Kent. A pure joy to see coming of the fields at Elmley Nature Reserve, the brown and black blobs on the ground are cows!!

This image is from a commissioned shoot I did for choreographer Sara Silken and her dance group. View her work on youtube at www.youtube.com/user/ssilkin
Sara is the one in this photo. I have about 7 more that I did for her and I might be posting one other to flickr at some point. And a bit later next week I'll put all of them on my fb fan page. We had lots of good fun with levitating that day :-)
In other news...the Linda Vista abandoned hospital shoot is just under a week away on July 3rd. I still have a couple slots for people to join in if you'd like, or if you know someone who lives here who wants to. The cost is $50 per shooter to come along for a 14 hour day of shooting in the hospital. This is not a group thing, we are all shooting individually.
THE FIG AND PLUM TREE, in our garden , only feed the birds, rarely do we get to eat of the fruits.. This was taken in the darkest possible spot, and therefore of poor quality, but a bit different. My wife Chris and I have been feeding two families of Blackbirds, and they have become very tame, and even enter the cottage, and has given us so much joy and entertainment during these difficult times of near isolation.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FRIENDSHIP, please leave a comment, I love doing the same to your lastest postings.
Enjoy the Lords day, stay well and safe, God bless..... ......................................Tomx.
I am off to France for a long weekend ...will not be posting any more images until next Tuesday. Will be excited to see all the things my friends have posted when I return.
In this scene from a nearby village there is a lot of activity near the post box but no letters being posted. The couple on the left in their country attire ..the shoppers on the right and the seated man checking his phone !!
I'm re-posting this one because I made subtle changes in the editing and I think I like it better now.
It seems to be a popular shot alot of people had requested to buy a copie.
So I'm looking into framing it on Canvas and adding it to my collection for my craft shows at the end of the year!.
Unfortunately I can't edit out the print of the wood-board. Hens why it's in black and white the shot. The long stripe and print are in bright red and black. Which ruins the shot! Too much distraction I think...
Anyway I hope you you don't mind seeing the shot a second time... Hope you like it! :)
Hi There!
After posting a few loud images lately, I thought I better give your eyes a break! There are many types of hydrangea blossoms, but I found myself quite entranced with this pale variety's little pink freckles!
Thank you so much for stopping by and for your comments. I do appreciate hearing from you very much! Have a fabulous day!

sorry for posting another butterfly today ;-) I promise the next one is with a rising sun, some fog and possible a windmill...
It's very bad weather today but i decided this afternoon to go for a little walk and see how nature is booming in my area.
I couldn't believe my eyes when i discovered this nice guy.
The bokeh is caused by some grass in front of the lens.
Orange tip ♂
Thanks everyone for visiting my stream.
Posting this next to yesterdays Western Grebe as makes it easy to see the difference in Grebes. The Clark's Grebe the black crown ends above their eyes and their beaks are more orange, where the western Grebe black crest ends below their eyes.
Grebe chicks will ride on their parents backs for 2-4wks. I read the red patch on their forehead which is not often visible indicates they are hungry.
They were pretty far out in the water. This is a big crop.

Before posting this image, I wandered through Wikipedia-Land in an attempt to share factual information about this crinkly petaled poppy. I discovered that this poppy is most likely a Meconopsis Cambrica or Welsh poppy. One year I purchased this beauty, and the yellow flowers in the background, so they could take center stage in my garden. Their time in the spotlight was shorter than I'd have liked. At least I have this image.
Thank you, everyone, for the comments and faves to my posting last week of Salthenge. There were many questions from that shot, so I wanted to take time and answer for everyone.
Today's view of Salthenge includes two folding chairs to give it scale.
If you want to leave comments, please add to the other one here flic.kr/p/2kTxRt1
Q: Who created it?
A; Still unknown. I am betting on aliens, and its a secret signal
Q: Where are the footprints?
A: Further proof of aliens......this section of salt is rock hard and not like beach sand. Many areas of the lake has loose / soft salt that is fragile, but this area is sunbaked hard, like concrete.
A bigger problem is tracking dirt/sand on the salt and leaving those dirt footprints (I was extra careful)
Q: Where did the rocks come from?
A: Aliens or an area of rocks about 66 meters / 216 feet away
Q: How large is this?
A: Did my photo today help give it scale? Maybe I should let you know those folding chairs are 12.7cm /5 inches tall :-) No drone involved, just the mini chairs and my Sony a7iii :-)
Q: How long will it last?
A: Humans create things, and just as fast, they destroy things. It becomes much harder to take apart if it lasts a few months as the salt will act like concrete holding them in place.
Q: How big are the rocks?
A: The largest one is maybe 6 inches / 15cm. The entire circle is about 2 meters / 6.5 feet
Q: Roy wants to know why comments are always off
A: Roy, they are only off for you :-) No one else has this problem.
The Great Salt Lake - GPS is not the exact spot of the shot.

Posting the front and back views reminds me of the Joni Mitchell song - 'Both Sides Now'
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
Sorry for posting so much, I've been wanting to try to do a picture for each day of the faire <3

Posting as part of the 3-day celebration for our rockstar buddy [Travelling without Moving] who grew up in Holland and now lives in..guess where...😊

I photographed this male purple finch yesterday but he posed so pretty that I'm posting his picture today. Purple finches are usually regular winter visitors at Lake Meyer Park but this is the first and only purple finch I found here this year. I don't know where the purple finches disappeared to this past winter but I hope they return again for the next winter season.

I took several shots of which I kept three. This is the last one I'm posting on Flickr. The other two I posted earlier. This was , however, the first one taken.
I took this shot on my walk back down to the car after watching the sunrise up on Yew Crag. The views down the Southern end of Ullswater are just wonderful all the way down this path. The sun was up and catching the fence posts, with the diagonal of the path leading my eye back down towards Glenridding and Patterdale.
Couldn't resist stopping and taking yet another shot of this Lakeland Winter scene.
A final posting from a series of images taken during a visit a couple of weeks ago to this famous location on Anglesey. I took this one whilst waiting for the sun to break through. The sky was constantly changing as the clouds slowly cleared. I processed at mono to accentuate the sense of drama in the sky.
sorry everyone for re-posting the photo but I just happen to like the monochrome edit much better than the earlier color version (which will be removed presently)
The Zagreb Funicular connects the city's Lower Town with the historic Upper Town. Its 66-metre (217 ft) track makes it one of the shortest public-transport funiculars in the world. The funicular was built in 1890 and has been in operation since April 23, 1893. Initially it had steam engines, which were substituted with electrical engines in 1934.
The funicular runs on a 1,200 mm (3 ft 11 1⁄4 in) gauge track, track length is only 66 m (217 ft), but height difference is 30.5 m (100 ft) and inclination 52%. This makes it one of the shortest, but also one of the steepest funiculars in the world. It runs at a speed of 1.5 m/s (4.9 ft/s), needing 55 seconds to cross the distance. (from Wikipedia)
I felt somewhat ambivalent about posting this image, as it is so grainy due to the low light conditions in which it was shot. I confess, I was seduced by the light.
I love these birds as they are so characterful, they didn't let anything get past them, including seeing me set up my blind in the dark. the rising sun was only a promise, although not enough light to shoot, it was enough for them to see me and maintain a noisy vigil constantly honking at me trying to hide myself in that silly little camo tent.
One of the main reasons I love these geese so much is their affinity for each other and they mate for life (the main motive to stop all my hunting and swap my guns for cameras). They are communal, look after each other and generally provide a model that our society would do better to emulate. they remind me of our First nations culture, the extended family values, caring for each others welfare. Its humbling what we can learn and from where we can learn.
Mallorca 2013
Shall be posting an Image a day for the next year, 365 (or 366 if it is a Leap year...not checked!!).
The Format will be different...some images have been shown before, some are new...... At the moment I am now starting a "New" Project.....Well it is "New" for me, although it has been done before by many, many People too!!!.
I will follow the direction I have chosen but there is plenty of room for me to chop and change at a later date...I guess it depends how I feel about it at a later date.
This Project will now give me the time to work with other ideas I am playing with. There will still be months in which I post other pics too from themes I have worked with in the past......I have just made a little more time and space available to me.
So hope you like the changes.......

Now that these beautiful birds have returned here for the winter, I will be posting many more.
William Hawrelak Park. Edmonton, Alberta.
Yes, 'bokeh' is a real term in photography, and while that word has become overused and almost cringy, its visual effect and beauty is a lovely element in photography. The out-of-focus orbs of light give images a dreamy and pleasant look.
This is the first in a series of artistic images that I will be posting. All were created using the online editor picmonkey.com This one features Bubbles in Blue.
Have a great Thanksgiving weekend, everyone...
Took this one with my buddy William McIntosh at Zion National Park. We scrambled up to William's sacred spot and eagerly awaited the sunset. Things were looking good but in the last 20 mins the clouds shifted to the east and started to light up the sky in the wrong direction. I quickly bailed from my over the valley composition and started shooting anything I could find facing the direction of the colorful clouds. You should have seen us, Bill and I sat there chanting, willing and hoping that the clouds would shift but mother nature was not hearing us.. :) So, not being my ideal shot for the evenings sunset, I think it still turned out to be a decent photo. I'm glad that we were alone in this spot or someone might have thought we were nuts or at least Bill was nuts out on the ledge literally a 5x5ft area with at least a 30ft drop in any direction, not even enough room for two tripods. Maybe they would be right? LOL. :)
I know my Flickr Friends are probably getting tired of my daily posts, I realize that's a lot of posting, but I have over 200 photos from 13 trips taken this year alone. And I need to get this stuff up here. I thank those of you that continue to encourage and support my photography even at this rate of posts. Maybe I should start a project like David Kingham. A photo a day for 365 days, When I saw him undertake his project I thought it was crazy to post everyday. Now I know why he's posting so many. :)
Thanks for taking the time to take a look at my photos, and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great Wednesday ahead everybody!! :)
Please do me a "solid" and follow me on my other social sites found below:
following a suggestion in a comment for a photo I posted over a year ago, I am re-posting this, in sharpened and intensified colour, and in larger size...improved, I think ! Thanks for the prod, Allan McKenzie!
POSTING JUVENILE BIRDS FROM HOME.
====================================
JUVENILES have mainly buffish-brown plumage that is palest on the face and underparts. Chaffinch can be found in the region thrughout the year, in almost all habitats. Outside the breedng season influxes of birds from northern mainland Europe probably more that double the population during the winter months, flocks of these immigrants can be seen foraging for seeds on the ground. THE PATTERN ABOVE is similar to that seen on the male, but at this stage is hard to know what sex it will be eventually.

Posting today's picture quite early.
I'm no expert but I think it's a species of plant called Japanese Barberry.
Used a low exposure and used the sun's light to capture the highlights.
Lately I have been posting group shots of shorebirds, but I don't think I'll find a group of these ones.

Posting this for my brothers 50th birthday. He took this with my camera on North Uist. He was in the passengers seat which meant he was a little closer to the bird so I passed him the camera to have a go.
We must have seen 3 or 4 of these every day, at anytime during the day, and on other days more. You can see that this one has eaten very recently by the blood stains around the beak.
