Today I had a lovely chat with a recruitment lady (she contacted me about a part time position I applied for the other day) who made me feel slightly less frustrated about job hunting. I also looked at a bunch of (unsuitable) properties because I'm on the move again. Staying in the area though, hopefully. I'm having to leave my lovely Mansion Block by the park though because living with the spoilt little princess has become unbearable. She failed to pay her full share of the rent this month (through being stupid and stubborn I believe, not lack of funds) and we had a huge row when I found out. It was really rather fun for me, as countering ridiculous ill thought through arguments from stupid people often is. But amusing as it is to highlight her failings, it's not a nice situation to be in for me or more importantly, her brother. I don't want my boyfriend's entire family to hate me just because I wont give in to his big sister's ridiculous demands. So....two girlie types (let's hope they turn out to be bimbos since she clearly can't deal with anyone who actually thinks or acts like a grown woman) will replace me on the contract to save her some money, and I get to move to somewhere smaller with a bit of a garden that Ben and I can call our own. Hurrah. Of course, this dream home of ours is proving to be rather elusive but needs to be found fast...Eek. For some reason, I am still feeling very upbeat about the whole thing though. Yes it's an effort to move again so soon, and there are costs of course, and flat hunting is tedious (the temptation to blow the budget is huge) but I am sure something magnificent will turn up in our price range just at the right time. And I'm far happier to be escaping the princess and her inconsiderate ways now rather than being stuck with her til the summer. Hells yeah! Besides...I wanted a garden all along. It was top of my list of requirements, something I compromised on because she wanted to live somewhere prestigious (and as it turns out more extravagant than she could afford). Well...not for long. Hee. :)

The second assignment in the Strobist Lighting 102, where you vary the distance of the light source from the subject.

Here I am a constant distance away from the background - 5 feet away from a neutral grey wall.

Notice how the background is dark when the camera is close to subject, and lighter as it gets further away. Yes, the light power varies (increases as you move it away) but the exposure of the subject is adjusted by changing the aperture.

Just as David Hobby said it would!!! Something about that inverse square law?? That "the closer you get to the light source, the lighting values change quicker. Move further away, and the distance (think of it as a ratio) becomes less and has less effect."

Very cool. Another "ah-ha" moment.
