The green and peaceful Isle of Man is the spectacular setting for the high-octane TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle race, unquestionably the most thrilling, most demanding and just plain terrifying motorcycle racing in the world, held from late May to early June (30 May-12 June 2015). It is the world's most dangerous motorcycle race, inspiring passion and controversy in equal measure. By the start of this race in 1907, around 250 riders had died on the 60 km (37¾ miles) TT course.

The TT Circuit

The TT inspires more passion and loyalty than any other motorcycling event. Compared to the short, sanitised circuits of MotoGP, this is tough racing on the real public roads, with dozens of sequences to remember. The blind corners and the steep mountain climbs of Snaefell require years of experience to ride well; handling a 200 kg superbike of 1,000 cc and above around them at average speeds (lap record) up to 131.850 mph is gruelling, not to mention nerve-shredding. Should your concentration slip, there are no gravel traps to break your fall. There are only trees, telegraph poles and jagged stone walls......... More

TT: Closer to the Edge is a documentary film about the Isle of Man TT races. The film examines what motivates the riders who race the TT and risk everything to become "King of the Mountain". Filmed in 3D, the film is a story about freedom of choice and the strength of human spirit. The film follows the leading riders in the 2010 race meeting, in particular Guy Martin and Ian Hutchinson.

The top-seeded Army West Point Women’s Basketball team won its third Patriot League title with a 69-51 victory over No. 3 Loyola on Saturday evening at Christl Arena. Army secures the Patriot League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will make its third appearance in the dance, following trips in 2006 and 2014.

Army extends its winning streak to 19 games and improves to 29-2. The Black Knights’ 29 win tie the 2009-10 Lehigh squad for the most total wins in Patriot League history. Loyola finishes the year 16-16 after the setback.

Senior Kelsey Minato earned Patriot League Tournament MVP honors for the second time in her career after scoring 25 points and shooting 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. Classmate Aimee Oertner and sophomore Janae McNeal joined Minato on the league’s all-tournament team, as Oertner posted a 14-point, 11-rebound double-double, to go along with four blocks, and McNeal totaled 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Sophomore Destinee Morris netted eight points off the bench, while classmate Aliyah Murray and freshman Madison Hovren each contributed four points.

Diana Logan led Loyola with 15 points, while Colleen Marshall and Bri Betz-White also scored in double figures, with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.

Minato knocked in a three-pointer 2:28 into the contest to give Army a 5-2 advantage before sinking all three free-throws after being fouled on a long-range attempt with 5:03 to play in the first quarter. Her three foul shots made the score 10-4.

Oertner registered three blocks in the first 2:19 of the evening to limit Loyola’s offense early, as the Greyhounds were held to nine points in the opening frame.

McNeal converted lay-ups on consecutive possessions to cap a 9-0 Army run and extend the margin to 10 points, 14-4, with 3:41 remaining in the first period. The Black Knights went on to outscore the Greyhounds, 13-5, over the final 6:48 of the opening frame, as the hosts led, 20-9, at the end of one.

Logan scored the first seven points of the second quarter to begin a 9-0 run that brought Loyola back to within two, 20-18, with 6:45 left until halftime. Logan buried her second triple of the half to extend the scoring run to 12-0 and give the Greyhounds their first lead of the game, 21-20, with 6:12 remaining in the second period.

Army answered back with 10 straight points of its own, including three-pointers from Minato and Morris, to build the advantage to nine points, 30-21, by the 2:39 mark. Morris drained her second three-pointer of the quarter with 19 seconds remaining in the half to make the score 33-23 heading into the break.

The Black Knights maintained a 10-point advantage until building the lead to 14 after a pair of free-throws from Minato and a bucket from Oertner that came with 4:04 on the clock in the third quarter.

McNeal added lay-ins 22 seconds apart to build the hosts’ lead to 17, 47-30, before seven unanswered points from Loyola brought the Greyhounds back to within 10, 47-37, entering the fourth period.

Oertner netted four quick points to begin the fourth quarter and Minato hit a triple at the 7:59 mark to bring the score to 54-41. Loyola didn’t come any closer than 11 for the last 7:59 of the contest.

“This team has never ceased to amaze me this year,” said head coach Dave Magarity. “It’s mind blowing that we are 29-2 and the way we got here, the teams we beat and we thought we put together a pretty tough schedule with Albany, the conference champion in the America East, Quinnipiac won the MAAC regular season and they were huge wins for us and put us in position to get the one-seed as things worked out for us with the tiebreaker over a great Bucknell team.

“This group of young ladies has just accomplished so much with 99 wins over four years at this level is incredible and they just continue to do what it takes. You don’t want it to turn into a cliché with being a team of destiny, but we put together the right pieces. Janae McNeal and the junior class with Aliyah Murray and the Morris twins, as well, and I consider my coaching staff the best in America. It’s the best coaching staff I’ve ever had and I’ve had some pretty good coaches."

The memorial was damaged beyond repair in 2006 and replaced in 2008.

The memorial has been moved to NJ 12506 34385, the position shown above is right on the main road so perhaps it was hit by a vehicle that would fit with the damage on the original which is in the cemetery (NJ 1418 3528).

There appears to be a church hall across the road from memorial.

Note the position of this utility pole in relation to the windows and doors behind it. ONE and THREE are almost identical but TWO was shot from a point several feet to the left.

I am guessing that means there were two windows in the room.

The Mausoleum of Emperor Ferdinand II

Among the three in Styria from the age of the Counter Reformation originating mausoleums, the chronologically last emerged Grazer Mausoleum occupies a transregional position: It is a building with a European dimension. Ferdinand II entrusted 1614 his from Lodi, near Milan, coming Court artist Giovanni Pietro de Pomis (1569-1633) with the design and execution of this monumental grave construction, which was completed in 1636.

The Mausoleum - consisting of the symbol associated form of a cross of St. Catherine's Church and the oval tomb (symbol of the resurrection) - shows the ecclesiastical and dynastic representation intentions of the client: the patronage of St. Catherine of Alexandria does not only refer to a medieval predecessor building, but also stands in the context of the by Archduke Charles II, the father of Ferdinand II, in 1585 founded and run by the Jesuit Order University, which also stood under the patronage of the female martyr, the patron saint of Sciences. The dynastic intentions are recognizable at the symbolic crownings of the domes - scepter and imperial eagle with imperial sword and orb. The sandstone statues on the west façade - the by two angels flanked saint Catherine and two of the Holy to Christianity converted people - and the painted copper plates in the niches with the scenes from the life of St. Catherine form additionally not only a to the titular saint of the Church and patron of the university related program, but also show in the two to Catholic faith converted figures Porphyry and Faustina a Counter-Reformation aspect.

The completion of the interior was only in 1687 by the glorious victor over the Turks Emperor Leopold I initiated. He extended in the same time the originally related to his grandfather Ferdinand II equipment program by a glorification of the house of Austria and an apothesosis directed to his person.

The designs for the remarkable stucco decorations and for the altar of Catherine delivered the 1687 in Graz born Imperial court painter Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. The stucco work was carried out 1688/89 by Josef Serenio, Girolamo Rossi and Antonio Quadrio. The at the same emerged nave frescoes with the Apotheosis of the Habsburg dynasty were probably painted by Franz Steinpichler. At the center of these frescoes is the then most topical relief battle of Vienna (1683) shown. The sculptures of St. Catherine's altar carved Marx Schokotnigg (1697/99); from the same artist stem the angels of the Marian altar (1697/1701). The altarpiece depicting the Immaculate Virgin painted in 1699 Antonio Bellucci. Of the church furnishing is furthermore the "sacred grave" (1768/69) by Veit Koniger to emphasize, by its playing platform and the multi-figured ensemble counting to the most important "holy shrines" in Austria.

The frescoes in the chapel grave with representations of the virtues and deeds of the Catholic Emperor Ferdinand II and typological juxtapositions from the Old and the New Testament that refer to the resurrection and redemption of Christ, painted about 1689 Matthias Echter. He also established the fresco in the choir with the mystic marriage of St. Catherine. The niche figures of stucco - personifications of the virtues of "faith", "love", "hope" and "justice" - created around 1695/96 Marx Schokotnigg. The paintings "Saint Ignatius" by Franz Wagenschön (1766) and "Mary Immaculate" by Josef Tunner (1858 ) were formerly as altarpieces in use.

The stucco work of the tomb chamber manufactured around 1640 Mattia Camin (they were in 1694 renewed by Josef Serenio). The here represented substantial program shows the insignias and coats of arms of the countries and hereditary lands of Emperor Ferdinand II, symbols of death and last rites and painted scenes from the Old and the New Testament that refer to the resurrection.

The tombs of Emperor Ferdinand II (d. 1637) and of Archduchess Maria Anna of Bavaria (d. 1616), the first wife of Ferdinand II, are characterized by inscription panels. Also, here is a so-called Herzgrüftl (small heart tomb) with the hearts of Ferdinand II, his mother, Maria of Bavaria, his second wife Eleanor of Gonzaga and of other archducal family members.

The Rotmarmorsarkophag (red marble sarcophagus) in the crypt room with the three-dimensional recumbent figures of the parents of Ferdinand II, in which, however, only his mother is buried, stems from the ancient Grazer monastery of the Poor Clares and may have been manufactured about 1608 by Sebastian Carlone.

The Mausoleum of Ferdinand II is due to its complex architectural and iconological program a Hall of Fame of the Counter-Reformation. It identifies itself by its political-imperial statement as foundation building of the Imperial House of Austria. From the artistic point of view, it is also a main example of the manifestation of Roman art movements in the High Baroque in Styria.

The paint scheme, more than 75 lights, and its past role as a flying laboratory make this Beechcraft C-45 Expeditor unique.

This photo illustrates the aircraft's role as a flying lab. Multiple types of wingtip position lights used since the 1930s are visible here. The notes on the photo explain which lighting technologies are used and when they became available.

Grimes Manufacturing Company was a pioneer in aircraft lighting. From the 1960s to the 1980s the company used this aircraft as its Flying Laboratory to test and demonstrate aircraft lighting. In 1973 the red, white, and blue paint scheme was applied. After being sold to another owner in 1986, the aircraft was damaged in an accident and fell into disrepair. In 1999, it was purchased again by Grimes and restored. The restoration was completed in 2008. The non-profit Grimes Flying Lab Foundation acquired the aircraft in 2003 and continues to operate it from Grimes Field in Urbana, Ohio.

This aircraft was built in 1944 as a C-45F Expeditor (44-47145), the military version of the Beechcraft Model 18 Twin Beech. The United States Army Air Force used it as a trainer. In 1953 it was re-manufactured as a C-45H for the United States Air Force.

The ethnically, linguistically and resource-rich region known as the Caucasus is the focus of this WorldCanvass Studio.

Sitting at the dividing line between Europe and Asia and encompassing parts of Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Armenia, the Caucasus has long served as a crossroads for travelers and traders as well as smugglers and terrorists. It is also home to a culturally complex mixture of peoples with different religions, languages, traditions, political-economic challenges and expectations of the future.

Both the birthplace of great literature and art by such masters as Tolstoy and Pushkin and the point of contact—and sometimes conflict—between opposing forces, the region continues to be of vital importance to contemporary world affairs because of its geographical position and because of its vast natural resources, including oil.

WorldCanvass Studio guests convened around the topic “The Caucasus as a Crossroads: Dagestan, Russia and Regional Security” in the Old Capitol Senate Chamber from 5-6 p.m. on Thursday, October 27.

Joining host Joan Kjaer in conversation were Kazbek Sultanov, Institute of World Literatures, Academy of Sciences of the Russian Federation; Robert Bruce Ware, Department of Philosophy, Southern Illinois University; and William Reisinger, Department of Political Science at the University of Iowa in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
