A young brown bear grazes in a lush meadow full of grasses and wildflowers and lifts his head briefly for a portrait. A few strands of protein-rich sedge grass stick out of his mouth and his back and developing hump are outlined with some nice rim light. Cook Inlet, Pacific Northwest.

Such a wonderful day seeing this Northern Hawk-owl, and it gave ample poses to capture it in. We even saw it catch two voles.
It's the best of several New Museum exhibitions called "The Keepers," collections about individuals who have carried out unreasonable acts of iconophilia.
This collection is called "Partners" because it is over three thousand photos of people posing with teddy bears. Also called the "Teddy Bear Project" and a lifelong collection by Ydessa Hendeles. Ms. Hendeles, who is the only child of two survivors of Auschwitz, explains her collection with "I was touching on unconscious needs that I had, because I didn’t have any family photographs,” she said “I’m keeping other people’s memories.”
After reading that “Partners” becomes so much more than a study of iconophilia or obsessive compulsive disorder. A collections of other people’s memories by someone who had all of her family memories removed, makes for some emotional viewing.

The African penguin (Spheniscus demersus), also known as Cape penguin or South African penguin, is a species of penguin confined to southern African waters. It is the only penguin found in the Old World. Like all penguins, it is flightless, with a streamlined body and wings stiffened and flattened into flippers for a marine habitat. Adults weigh an average of 2.2–3.5 kg (4.9–7.7 lb) and are 60–70 cm (24–28 in) tall. The species has distinctive pink patches of skin above the eyes and a black facial mask. The body's upper parts are black and sharply delineated from the white underparts, which are spotted and marked with a black band.
This time around, it was just two males cruising up river. Didn't see any females with them. The morning sun was a bit harsh by the time they showed up, but got some decent photos.
