The flower these insects chose as a stopping place was less than two inches in diameter. At first glance, I thought the green bits on top of the flower were little bits of leaves. Upon further examination, I discovered they were insects. A quick dash up the stairs of my house allowed me to grab my camera, all the while whispering the mantra...'Don't move, don't move!' Imagine my surprise when I returned to find them still posing for me. Less than two minutes later, they hopped away. Whew!
A trip to Flanders Moss NNR today proved very fruitful. Lovely stonechats - a new family, Green Hairstreaks, three new hoverfly species (for me), Common Lizards and the first damsels out (Large Red) and a distant Four-spot Chaser
After a very noise bath spraying lot of splashes everywhere, this duck looked like an angel in this pose.
I could not lose the opportunity to photograph it after the incredible show.
From the archives, and photographed in the garden of the Republic Museum, Rio de Janeiro.

It's an Australian native. A wallaby is a small or mid-sized macropod native to Australia and New Guinea, with introduced populations in New Zealand, UK and other countries. They belong to the same taxonomic family as kangaroos and sometimes the same genus, but kangaroos are specifically categorised into the six largest species of the family. The term wallaby is an informal designation generally used for any macropod that is smaller than a kangaroo or wallaroo that has not been designated otherwise. There are 11 species of brush wallabies (g. Macropus, s.g. Protemnodon). Their head and body length is 45 to 105 cm and the tail is 33 to 75 cm long. The six named species of rock-wallabies (g. Petrogale) live among rocks, usually near water; two species are endangered. The two species of hare-wallabies (g. Lagorchestes) are small animals that have the movements and some of the habits of hares. Often called pademelons, the three species of scrub wallabies (g. Thylogale) of New Guinea, the Bismarck Archipelago, and Tasmania are small and stocky, with short hind limbs and pointed noses. 15238
Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) juvenile male female
When I dropped Daniel and Sarah off to school this morning I spotted the three members of the Tawny Family together on on branch. I quickly walked home, about 300 metres, and got the camera. I spent about half an hour taking many shots of them in various poses and preening.
Tawnies adopt this pose so as to look like a branch of the tree, often that means they are aware of a threat from another bird or animal. Looks like junior hasn't quite got the hang of it yet. I couldn't see any birds of prey in the air and after about two minutes they all relaxed again.
