Annunciation Cathedral, Moscow Kremlin. The cathedral was ceremonially consecrated in August, 1489. It was built by Russian makers in traditions of Pskov and Moscow architecture on ancient. For more than one and a half century the Annunciation Cathedral had been the Moscow Great Princes’ and Tsars’ home church. From the middle of the XVI century, the northern Porch and the north-western gallery were used for festive entrances to the palace while ceremonial settings for reigning, receiving of foreign embassies, processions on the Holy Day of Entrance to Jerusalem, on Holy Friday the day before Easter etc.
One of the sweetest sites I have seen! I was in the Louvre museum and every one was so freaking busy capturing almost everything that came in their frame!
Enjoy seeing it Large On Black screen
I saw this couple and it was like a "Lost in Translation" kind of a feeling. For one moment, life paused and I felt like capturing this instant! I like the romance that is going around! Isn't it cute?
This picture is a part of my collection called the I Love You set. I had no intentions to make a dedicated set for some thing like that but eventually, a group of romantic photos just kept of bundling in my account. This group of photos depict expressions related to the feeling of...

Make sure you view this with your screen quite bright... But I think my screen isn't very bright to begin with so you're probably fine. :)
Okay, here are my ten facts! I was tagged by Erin ♥LivingGrace.
1. This is my brother. :) He's fourteen.
2. He was kind of nervous about me taking pictures of him... This is the only photo I got where he didn't panic and pull a funny face haha.
3. I know it's ridiculous how I always fall back on Harry Potter when I have to write ten facts, but I am currently having an HP book marathon. :) I'm up to Goblet of Fire.
4. Harry Potter's awesome.
5. I cannot wait for the Deathly Hallows movie.
6. Hmm. I just remembered these are supposed to be ten facts about ME. Oh well!
7. I am an extremely eclectic person in taste, as you can probably tell in my photography. I'm the same, if not worse, with my clothes and music taste.
8. I got my learner's permit last spring, I'm probably going to take driving classes this fall...
9. I didn't know you could get your learner's permit at fifteen in Florida! D:
10. My favorite TV show is probably House by now. They've cancelled so many of my favorite shows this year! D: I do love House though, you should watch it.
Possibly the most random 10-facts in the history of the world.
If I tagged you it's because I love your photos and I want to know more about you. :)

According to Wikipedia:
Postman's Park is a small green memorial garden in the City of London. It is located between King Edward Street, Little Britain and Angel Street. It was created in 1880 from the churchyards of St Leonard, Foster Lane and St Botolph-without-Aldersgate together with the graveyard of Christ Church Greyfriars. St Leonard's had been a ruin since the Great Fire and was probably demolished at the time of the creation of the park. St Botolph's is still open and stands at the north east corner of the park. Christ Church was detached from its graveyard and is now a ruin on the other side of King Edward Street.
The park was the idea of the painter George Frederick Watts who wanted to celebrate people who may otherwise have been forgotten. Its name celebrates the postmen who work in the principal London post office and the former sorting office in King Edward Street.
A wall in the park has 34 hand-painted tiles paying tribute to everyday people who sacrificed their lives helping others. The hand-lettered tiles were made by Royal Doulton.
The park features in the film Closer - Natalie Portman's character takes her pseudonym 'Alice Ayres' from one of the painted tiles, as Jude Law's character discovers at the end of the film.
As I mentioned in my last post, I certainly still have more photographs to post from both my charity bike ride in Morocco and the DMU Boston meetup, but I've put off posting shots from the BU Photo Club twilight shoot at Lo Presti Park for far too long.
This particular shot was one that I had flagged as a keeper the moment I reviewed it on the LCD of my camera when I shot it. I've put off posting it because I couldn't decide whether or not people looking at the photo would like how the old pier posts blend into the blackness of the cityscape (I figured y'all wouldn't.) After several weeks of going back and forth, I was reminded of the fact (again) that this is my photograph and I like- no- love the colors and tones in this and even though I do like it when others say they enjoy my work, it's shouldn't become my primary motive for pursuing photography as I do- and it's not.
Also, I love me some purple.

Founded with the Life century by the Saint-Avit bishop, it was rebuilt in XIe and XIIe centuries, after being burned by the Norman ones. It is altered at the XIXe century by the addition of the bell-tower and flagstones of lava to replace the Romance tiles of origin. These flagstones were withdrawn since and the roof remade with identical of original, in tiles channel.
An important restoration campaign began in 2007 inside the church and finished at the end of 2008, restoration which follows those of the exterior facades and the roof. This work consisted in the cleaning of all the stones, the removal of the cement joints going back to the restoration of the XIXe century, the rebadigeonnage of the facings, the restoration of the boards and the repair of the glosses in order to return the church in the state where it was in 1900. The crypt of the church was not concerned with this restoration campaign. On Sunday, 7 December 2008 the statue of Notre-Dame of the Port was reinstalled in the church (it had been preserved in the cathedral of Clermont during renovation works), thus marking reopening with the public of the building.
In 1998 it was registered with the world heritage of UNESCO to the title/titre of the inscription of the ways of Saint-Jacques-of-Compostelle.
Its name comes from what it was built in the district known as of the “port”, in Latin “portus”, i.e. the place where the goods were brought.
Lake Titicaca is a lake located on the border of Peru and Bolivia. It sits 3,812 m above sea level, making it the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. By volume of water, it is also the largest lake in South America.
The lake is located at the northern end of the endorheic Altiplano basin high in the Andes on the border of Peru and Bolivia. The western part of the lake lies within the Puno Region of Peru, and the eastern side is located in the Bolivian La Paz Department.
The lake is composed of two nearly separate sub-basins that are connected by the Strait of Tiquina which is 800 m across at the narrowest point. The larger sub-basin, Lago Grande (also called Lago Chucuito) has a mean depth of 135 m and a maximum depth of 284 m. The smaller sub-basin, Wiñaymarka (also called Lago Pequeño, "little lake") has a mean depth of 9 m and a maximum depth of 40 m. The overall average depth of the lake is 107 m.
Lake Titicaca is fed by rainfall and meltwater from glaciers on the sierras that abut the Altiplano. Five major river systems feed into Lake Titicaca. In order of their relative flow volumes these are Ramis, Coata, Ilave, Huancané, and Suchez. More than 20 other smaller streams empty into Titicaca, and the lake has 41 islands, some of which are densely populated.
Having only a single season of free circulation, the lake is monomictic, and water passes through Lago Huiñaimarca and flows out the single outlet at the Rio Desaguadero, which then flows south through Bolivia to Lake Poopó. This only accounts for about 10% of the lake's water balance.
(Wikipedia)
More magnificent that one can imagine, the famous lake of Titicaca is an awesome sight: silent, endless, deep, peaceful, quiet, dangerous... Here the view is taken when sailing from the town of Copacabana to the island Isla de Sol.
Ever since I was young, I've had a very special bond with my Grandpa Al. We decided when I was in my early teens that we were soul mates. Not in the way you traditionally understand that term, but in a way that we both understood. We've always been able to tap into each other's spirits in a way nobody else can. In many ways, I am just like my grandpa. I love to tell stories, and often times I run off on tangents that take longer than the original story itself ever would have taken to tell. I don't like people to rush me to my point. I'm proud. I'm passionate. I wear my heart on my sleeve. And it doesn't take much to make me tear up and get emotional. These are all traits I believe I've inherited from my grandpa.
Every year for probably the last twenty years, my grandpa writes me a special note for my birthday. He always includes some bits of wisdom. Perhaps a poem he wrote, perhaps the words of another poet. But he never ceases to pass along some idea to me that he believes (and rightly so) will help to shape me into a stronger, warmer, better woman. And every year I've tucked those notes away for safe keeping. I pull them out occasionally, and invariably wind up tearing up as I read them. But there are a few quotes that have stuck with me so firmly that I need not pull out the letters to be reminded of their sentiment. The title to this photo is an excerpt from a poem by Ella Wheeler Wilcox that my grandpa included in a letter to me during my junior year of college. It pops into my head at the most obscure times and fills me with warmth, love and comfort.
I can't think of anyone besides my parents who has influenced me in the way that my grandpa has. I hope that I have become the woman he always believed I would be. My gut tells me that I still have a ways to go. I'm sure my grandpa will weigh in on this at our 4th of July barbeque this year.
One Ship Sails East
One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
'Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
'Tis the set of the soul,
That determines the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.

My mom wanted to take her umpteenth walk along the beach, my dad was hanging out by the boardwalk sketching, so I decided to see Daytona by foot. Not the main drag that has high end hotels on one side, and $30/night motels on the other, but some of the less tourist-ridden areas. First, I walked down Main Street, which caters to bikers in a way I've never seen before. Harley store after leather shop after biker bar after Harley store. I did, however, smile mightily as I passed one of those bars and heard Tom Petty's Free Fallin' playing on the radio. I don't care if you're 25 or 55, I think everyone has memories of driving around in the summer with that song playing on the radio.
After that, I walked over the bridge, onto the mainland, and across on Beach St, which clearly used to be the hub of Daytona Beach nightlife. There were beautiful shops, a quaint street setting, trees planted all along... and 2/3 of the shops were empty. It was sad to see only a handful of restaurants and antique shops clinging to life on what used to be the place to be in the 1960s. They had posters up in the windows of the empty shops with pictures from that era, proclaiming how you, too, should play a part in preserving Daytona's history.
Along that road, I found this old car dealership from the lat 60s, all boarded up and dirty. It's hard to say how long it's been in that state.
On Tuesday night I joined JUMP, BAC and hundreds of Toronto's Jewish community in a huge bonfire at Earl Bale's Park in the city's north end to celebrate Lag BaOmer, the days leading up to the Jewish holiday of Shavuot.
It is customary on this holiday to light bonfires to symbolize the spiritual light brought into the world that was impacted through the teachings of Shimon bar Yochai, the greatest teacher of Torah in his generation.
The holiday stems from the teachings of Kaballah, or Jewish mysticism, recently made popular by Madonna.
When I arrived at the park I saw lots of families having a good time with their young kids.
There was a clown making balloon animals and a few children wondering about sugared up with cotton candy.
There were plenty of local Hasidim present, with their wide-brimmed hats, long beards and tallith dangling below their belts. It was good to see many bring their four-legged friends with them too.
Kids of all ages took delight in throwing bits of wood onto the growing bonfire.
It wasn't until after dark that the bonfire really took hold and people brought out marshmallows to roast. One kid had a particularly Canadian, inventive method of roasting his marshmallows.
A couple of drummers, dressed all in white, handed out 20 djembe drums to the crowd and let them in an impromptu drum circle around the fire. They even took out a couple of shofars and played along with the beat.
One of the local rabbis tried to gain the crowd's attention to explain the night's significance, but it largely fell on deaf ears, as everyone was too busy enjoying the crackling of the fire, the drums, their friends and family.
By the end of the night, the atmosphere reminded me of a PG-rated version of some of the pit parties I went to back in my high school days, where we'd gather around a bonfire in a nearby ravine.
Maybe it was the sound of the drums, the crackling of the fire or the overall sense of community, but I began to feel a sense of connectedness and warmth with my fellow Jews on this otherwise chilly spring evening.

Holderlin vislumbro nuestro destino.
Thaipusam actually celebrates the birthday of the Hindu deity Subramaniam. On this occasion, Hindus show the sincerity of their faith. It is a time for making and fulfilling vows. Devotees pray for divine help and make vows. When their prayers are answered, they fulfil their vows.
To do this, a devotee would pierce his cheeks, tongue, face or other suitable body parts with sharp objects. Next his friends or relatives load a *kavadi on his shoulder. Finally, in a trance-like manner, he goes on a 4km journey of faith.
Others, including young children, might join the procession carrying only milk pots. The Thaipusam Singapore procession starts at the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple on Serangoon Road and ends at the Sri Thandayuthapani Temple on Tank Road.
At first look, one might think that the festival starts at one temple and ends at another. Not so. Many of the devotees start fasting a month before the Thaipusam Singapore festivities. Others fast a week. Yet others three days.
A Hindu friend said this to me, "If you are going to put a 12-inch skewer through your cheeks and a hundred spikes in your chest, you'd better take your fast seriously!"
* A kavadi is a cage-like structure carried by devotees during the Thaipusam Festival.
It is traditionally decorated with peacock feathers and aluminium plates which show images of Hindu deities. Sharp spikes criss-cross its lower section.
An elaborate kavadi might weigh up to 15kg! It is quite something just to lift it. But these chaps I saw actually walked with them for 4km - kavadis, skewers, hooks, spikes and all!
Some of them even skipped and danced with their kavadis. Either they have great endurance or they have some supernatural help.
The Internet is here seen as the new mirror in which we search our own likeness and identity.
The central figure, at the computer, [a self-portrait] has been toned down following the comment below by dou_ble_you, to whom, as always, my thanks for his critique. It was also, subsequently, removed, and then replaced, on a smaller scale, as here seen.
This work grew out of several earlier ones (see: flickr.com/photos/walford/2695328110/ , and flickr.com/photos/walford/2690757479/ ), with the idea of a juxtaposition with elements from two different works by the English 18th c. painter, Joseph Wright of Derby, inspired by the comments of Lensk / Paolo Avalle [see flickr.com/photos/63587066@N00/ for Lensk / Paolo Avalle], as found below the second of the two earlier versions [see www.flickr.com/photos/walford/2695328110/in/photostream/ ]. I am most grateful to Lensk for pointing me in that direction, as had forgotten Wright's Alchemist, though am most familiar with his work.
This piece was only possible with the initial inspiration from Idea-Listic [Robert Marinkovic] 's diabolical self-portrait on his profile page, and a great deal of help from dou_ble_you, who transformed my original into something far more creative and imaginative, which, I, in turn, have re-appropriated back onto my two original computer display screens.
For the original work by Idea-Listic, that triggered this idea, see: www.flickr.com/people/53959560@N00/
And for dou_ble_you's version, made for me, see: flickr.com/photos/dou_ble_you/2694068334/
And for my original version, see here below: flickr.com/photos/walford/2690757479/

Drill team officers removing horse droppings from the show area. It appears that police horses in DC have the same issue as those in NYC ... they can't read city ordinance! Come to think of it, DC probably has ordinance on picking up after your pet or animal ... hmmm, maybe someone should ask the police to enforce is against ... police? lol :=))

back in early 2000 i bought my first DVD
even tho i was mad that Vhs was going out, because i had over 1,500 of them.
as you can see i didnt slow down as my collection is over 2,000 dvds now.
To be fair, some of these are my brothers as well, probably about 1/4.
im not quite THAT crazy.
I love movies. i love watching them,
examining them, and yes... collecting them.
if its a 2-disc directors cut, or a re-released special edition
with 5 extra minutes, i probably have it.
Im a Cine-phile, and im ok with that.
this is most of the collection.. about 100 are either not in this shot, or are lent out to friends.
for anybody wishing to know ...
the very top shelf is the older, cardboard cover dvds.
the next shelf is all tv series or boxed sets.
the next shelf is Independent / foreign films.
the next 4 1/2 shelves are alphabetical.
then theres a Jackie chan shelf.
then theres a special edition/directors cut shelf next to last.
and the last is my johnny depp collection.
BRAGS:
My files from yesterday were all recovered ... so the apocolypse has
been postponed. WHEW.
big thanks to all that tried to help last night, i appreciate it.
all it took was a $29 program to recover from the card, and about 5 hours of wait time.
i didnt feel like doing anything big today,
and i almost wasnt even in this shot, but
i figured i might as well be in it to show scale.
Russian Field of Honour
On this Field of Honour are the graves of 865 Russian soldiers. 101 Of them died during the German occupation in or next to the nearby notorious Camp Amersfoort. These 101 Russian soldiers were made p.o.w. by the Germans en were transported in September 1941 in cattlewagons to Amersfoort, the Netherlands, as living propaganda-material. After a train journey of 14 days they arrived starving and were driven through the city of Amersfoort to the concentration camp.
The inhabitants of Amersfoort reacted with horror and tried to offer water, fruits and bread, but did not get the chance to reach them. 24 of these Russan soldiers died within 5 months from hunger, disease and maltreatment. The survivors were executed in groups of 4 the 9th of April 1942. On the execution place is now a memorial.
The other graves on this Field of Honour are of Russian soldiers that died from exhaustion and disease, after they were liberated by the American army from German p.o.w.-ship. Their remains were initially burried on the American Military Cemetary in Margraten (Dutch Limburg). They were reburried at this cemetary on a later date.
The monument is made of white marble from the former Sowjet Union.

Russisch Ereveld Amersfoort
In this series I want to bring light to the forgotten.
Today in society we put so much worth on the objects that we all own. Who owns the most valuable objects? Objects that once had value to us, at times, end up in the corner collecting dust. Others are kept around because the value is more so sentimental. The idea that value comes from the perspective of the owner is an idea I want to bring attention to. Each and every object has a different level of sentimental value to each person. A small trinket could mean nothing to one and everything to another. In this series I want the objects that I have found in these abandoned areas to be hung and illuminated. I want them to have just as much importance as they once had when they had owners. In this series I want to bring light to the forgotten.
Each place I visited had piles of forgotten objects that had once been purchased and used. I decided to hang the objects that I believe to have meant something to someone at some point, whether it be a toy race car, a teddy bear, or a tea strainer, at some point these objects where of some use to someone. By hanging these items in the door ways of each house I am forcing you to see them if you wish to enter, to see what has been forgotten. All of these objects where also in fact left in these doorways so that the next person to visit will also be forced to see what has been left. With the diptychs I show a photo of the objects hung in what is clearly a doorway, then a close up to show the real detail of decay that some of the objects have been through. I found that with different places came different items. On the island of Little Gasparilla I found an abandoned fort that children used to play in, there I chose to hang a chess piece, a buoy, a pair of keys, a conch shell, and a wind chime. These items are so different from the usual house hold items and toys that I found int he rest of the homes. Also the use of a doorway changes, I instead hung them at what I believe to be the entrance to the secret hideaway.
These places all meant something to someone, the things left on the floor, they all were of some sort of value to some human being at some point. The burned charred toys were once shiny and new and enjoyed. The shoe was once keeping someones foot warm, the tools where once used, and the china doll was once displayed. Only to be left behind, I just don't want them to be left with no recognition of what used to be.
Map of Port Adelaide and Port River estuary showing land-based public access to the river and estuary waterfront:
Yellow line: public access to waterfront, beach, wharf or wetland
Dotted yellow line: access to waterfront at risk of being fenced off IMO
Blue line: wharfside/residential access, fishing now prohibited
Red line (2 sites): free launching ramp
Green line (2 sites): launching ramp with launching fee
Orange dotted line: fishing from the causeway to Torrens Island permitted by AGL TIPS
The estuary waterfront without marking is fenced off, mainly with barbed wire and razorwire, even if it is not an industrial site but wetlands, embankment or landfill. The next land-based access is off the map several kilometres to the north at St Kilda where you can access an embankment and a boardwalk.
Port Lincoln has a waterfront trail which follows the coast passing underneath grain conveyors, between silos, between the former power station and the cooling water inlet/outlet, between port buildings and wharfs, between the caravan park and the sea. It is possible.

Famous Chinese furniture maker, Ah Tay, and his iconic calabasa bed has remained one of the most coveted pieces of furniture in our history. Though instantly recognizable because of the obvious typical design elements, the scramble for genuine examples from the scores of reproductions continue to grow due to increasing demand from serious collectors. Calabasa bed – aptly named for the heavily gadrooned halved squash shape used for bed posts – is a juxtaposition of varied styles prevalent in Europe from the 1840s to 1880s: Gothic Revival, Rococo Revival and Renaissance Revival. This bed, in particular, has all the quintessential Ah Tay traits, crafted at the highest level – something that latter pieces will never be able to duplicate – that only the master himself can accomplish. Interestingly, there is age-appropriate numbering in Chinese characters on each calabasa support that matches with the corresponding post, thereby avoid mismatching the parts during assembly – a solid proof of Chinese hands in the making this bed. The lustrous patina and the unfeignable signs of usage accumulated over a long time are tactile testaments to its authenticity.
Ah Tay loved to incorporate tropical fruits in his beds. In this example, dayap fruits in varying degree of maturity are carved as decorative motif. Dayap (citrus aurantifolia) is a small tree native to Southeast Asia. Its most popular use in the Philippines is its rind added to leche flan or creme caramel for a distinct, sharp citrusy flavor. This is no coincidence as the original owners of the bed had a dayap farm in Pulupandan town in Negros, thus the sentimental association. They can be seen in the headboard bottom support, inside lyre posts, and from the canopy’s vaulted crests dangling gracefully. In a very good and sturdy condition. Found in a house in Mandaluyong.

A very large rendention of the Great Seal of California is displayed on the side of a State government building in Sacramento, California. The original photo is shown below. In this version I used the Photoshop filter Fractalius to enhance the photo.
INFORMATION ON THE GREAT SEAL OF CALIFORNIA:
The Great Seal of California: The seal design includes an image of the Roman goddess Minerva, a Grizzley Bear, and clusters of grapes representing wildlife and agricultural wealth. A gold miner and sailing ships in the background represent industry and commerce.
According to ancient Roman myth, the goddess Minerva was born fully-grown. Just as Minerva was born fully-grown, so California became a state without first having been a territory. Minerva's image on the Great Seal symbolizes California's direct rise to statehood.

Today I was puppy sitting for my son's 5 months old bundle of energy -- no time to do much at all but shoot pictures while siting outdoors, keeping an eye on the pup. I took over 500 pictures and on several I discovered in the developing stage that I took some interesting insect shots! I have ants, spiders, flies, etc. So here is a little bee kind of thing that was so small that I could not see it without the 100mm lens with the 2x extension! It is landing on a petal of a small daisy! Since you know how tiny daisy flowers are, and in specific how tiny a single petal is and once you know that this is less than half the length of the petal on this picture... now you know that this bee is measured in millimeters--and not too many of those either. It is a cute insect. =)
It is not a very good picture but the colors its fast-moving wings create are awesome.
I am sorry my friends but I am totally exhausted from this pup.. so off I go to get my beauty sleep.. I will visit your pictures tomorrow.
Cheers everyone!

Burra Goods Shed with damage caused by lack of white ant treatment which has resulted in the decay of timber supports and partial collapse of the building. The Burra Railway Goods Shed was constructed in 1870 of timber and iron using Gospel Oak corrugated iron manufactured in England. Although the shed has been painted silver on the outside, the entire corrugated iron cladding is still the original 1860s Walker's Gospel Oak CGI. In 1870, the goods shed was the site of the luncheon to inaugurate the opening of the Northern Extension Railway to Burra which was attended by 3,000 people. In the 100 years following the opening, the goods shed played a major role in the region's transport system.
