APESAR DA ENCHENTE CAUSADA EM SC, A CHUVA TROUXE SENTIMENTOS DE PAZ E SOLIDARIEDADE.
Please look at this one on black
Sometimes it's just so intoxicating.
Today wasn't a day to take a good 365. As you can see, homework has been consuming my life. I slaved most of my day over a textbook. I hate it. Not the material its self, although that at times is completely daunting. But the massive amounts of it that I have.
It snowed all day, and I was just aching to get outside with my camera. But I have this thing, called a mother, who makes sure that I have all of my priorities in order 24/7, even if it means I'm killing the potential of a good shoot. Oh well. Hopefully soon.
I made spicy soup today. Everyone else in my family thought it was really spicy, but I didn't think it was bad at all.
I really liked how I could feel the heat of all the spices in my inner ear canal. I guess that's how hot it was.
This is a different kind of a self portrait. Day 52. Goodness.
Another fab weekend in Pembrokeshire, enjoying better weather than London - and making the long awaited visit to the legendary Mrs Weston's Tea Shop!
On Friday, Hazel and I followed our usual routine for the our journey west - taking the mid-afternoon train to Newport where we rendezvoused with Dave for the drive on to Steffi's.
As is traditional, we prepared for Saturday's stroll along the Pembroke Coast Path with a Friday night feast of Steffi-curries - and a snifter of whiskey to see us on our way to Newgale for a night in the 'van. We slept well.
Saturday dawned sunny, and after a leisurely breakfast we set off, Dave at the wheel, destination: the National Trust car park at Stackpole Quay for a circular(ish) walk, combining the Pembroke Coast Path with the National Trust Stackpole Estate.
From Stackpole Quay we walked along the coastal path to Barafundle's beautiful beach and flower-filled woods, onwards to Stackpole Head for the nesting seabirds, rock windows and the eponymous stacks masquerading as wizard hats and seals. Next up Broadhaven South - another expanse of golden sands - although by now the sun had given way to sea mist, making for pleasant walking but gloomy-looking photos.
Crossing the Castlemartin firing range we arrived at the tiny chapel of St Govan's, and then looped back towards Broadhaven turning off into the sand dunes and overgrowth to make our way to Bosherston Lakes. Lilies galore; people too. A lone swan gliding through the lily beds.
Emerging into the NT Car Park at Bosherston, we homed in on the holy grail of Mrs Weston's Tea Shop, AKA (if all you have to go on are the signs) Ye Olde Worlde Cafe. If I tell you that panini and filter coffee are considered new-fangled additions to the menu, you'll appreciate that the name is apt. Proper big tea pot of tea, with a large ceramic jug of hot water for topping up (itself topped up with alacrity), "two beans and cheese on toast" came just as hoped - not beans with a sprinkling of grated cheddar, but 1xbeans on toast and 1xcheese on toast. Plus an array of traditional condiments: salad cream, Branston pickle, English mustard. TAY-STEE.
We completed our loop back to Stackpole Quay across and alongside Bosherston Lakes and the Stackpole Deer Park, which we felt justified another cup of tea / coffee and giant slices of cake / scones at the Boathouse Tea Room before a final stroll to Stackpole's stony beach for fossil fossicking.
Back at Newgale, we indulged in Mohitos and many rounds of Uno. As night fell on the longest day, the skies turned pink before giving way to a bright crescent moon, planets and stars.
Sunday - the traditions continued: a stroll along Newgale beach, heading south along the cliff path this time, before driving back to Steffi's for one of Maurice's Marvellous Sunday lunches. Hazel and I succumbed to the post-prandial snooze for most of the drive back to Newport as a result. Another tradition - sorry Dave!

The subconscious mind acts as a reservoir of thoughts, urges, pain and anxiety within the entirety of humanity. Water, a common representation of the subconscious hence is used through my work to create an 'under-tow' of messages, stressing the strong undercurrents of the interchanging gestalts of our thoughts that ultimately haunt the psyche. Moreover, the contingents between drowning and floating, falling and rising, dying and living are some of my main themes; the haunting nature of the figures subjection epitomizing the unpleasantness hidden within the unconscious. Moreover, the symbolisms of water across cultures for rebirth and new life presents the works ambiguous nature, as the figures can be interpreted as the metaphorical rise above anxieties (similarly to influential artist Rosemary Laing). It is this intent for an ambiguous concept that gives the work a variety of levels for audience identification.
Drawing on the psychological theories of Sigmund Freud, this series drowns itself within the ambiguities of the subconscious mind, subliminally representing an ultimate sense of phantasm.

The Helmeted Guineafowl is the best known of the guineafowl bird family, Numididae, and the only member of the genus Numida. It is native to Africa, mainly south of the Sahara, and has been widely introduced into the West Indies, Brazil, Australia and Europe (e.g. southern France). In the early days of the European colonization of North America, the native wild turkey was confused with this species. The word meleagris, Greek for guineafowl, is also shared in the scientific names of the two species, though for the guineafowl it is the species name, whereas for the turkey, it is the name of the genus and (in inflected form) the family. The Helmeted Guineafowl is a large bird 21 to 23 inches (53-58cm) with a round body and small head. They weigh about 46 ounces (1.3 kg). The body plumage is gray-black spangled with white. Like other guineafowl, this species has an unfeathered head. In this species it is decorated with a dull yellow or reddish bony knob, and bare skin with red, blue or black hues. The wings are short and rounded, and the tail is likewise short. Various sub-species are proposed, differences in appearance being mostly a large variation in shape, size and color of the casque and facial wattles. This is a gregarious species, forming flocks outside the breeding season typically of about 25 birds that also roost communally. Guineafowl are particularly well-suited to consuming massive quantities of ticks, which might otherwise spread Lyme disease. These birds are terrestrial, and prone to run rather than fly when alarmed. Like most gallinaceous birds, they have a short-lived explosive flight and rely on gliding to cover extended distances. Helmeted Guineafowl can walk 6 miles (10km) and more in a day, and are great runners. They make loud harsh calls when disturbed. Their diet consists of a variety of animal and plant food; seeds, fruits, greens, snails, spiders, worms and insects, frogs, lizards, small snakes and small mammals. Guineafowl are equipped with strong claws and scratch in loose soil for food much like domestic chickens, although they seldom uproot growing plants in so doing. As with all of the Numididae, they have no spurs. They may live for up to 12 years in the wild.

Back in February or March, my friend Meg McNeill was kind enough to allow me to use the darkroom at Norwalk Community College, and teach me a little bit about developing black and white film. After a week of horrible weather and very little sun i went to downtown Shelton on my lunch break from work and quickly shot a whole roll of film so i would have something to use the next day in the darkroom. This is one of my favorites from my first self-developed roll of black and white.

The Mower's Song
by Andrew Marvell
My mind was once the true survey
Of all these meadows fresh and gay,
And in the greenness of the grass
Did see its hopes as in a glass;
When Juliana came, and she
What I do to the grass, does to my thoughts and me.
But these, while I with sorrow pine,
Grew more luxuriant still and fine,
That not one blade of grass you spied,
But had a flower on either side;
When Juliana came, and she
What I do to the grass, does to my thoughts and me.
Unthankful meadows, could you so
A fellowship so true forgo,
And in your gaudy May-games meet,
While I lay trodden under feet?
When Juliana came, and she
What I do to the grass, does to my thoughts and me.
But what you in compassion ought,
Shall now by my revenge be wrought:
And flow'rs, and grass, and I and all,
Will in one common ruin fall.
For Juliana comes, and she
What I do to the grass, does to my thoughts and me.
And thus, ye meadows, which have been
Companions of my thoughts more green,
Shall now the heraldry become
With which I will adorn my tomb;
For Juliana comes, and she
What I do to the grass, does to my thoughts and me.

My back has been hurting real bad since yesterday morning during church. So, today I went to the chiropractor and got it fixed. haha. It still hurts a little.. but not too bad. I was supposed to do a shoot with Devon and Christian at the Paramount Art Center in Ashland, Ky. But I told them I could not because of my back. To my surprise, they were at my house when I got home from the chiropractor. So, we did a shoot in my room. It was fun times. I'm still really pumped about shooting at the Paramount though. We're hoping to sometime next week. =]

Szlakiem Jedi to organizacja roleplayingowa prowadząca rozgrywkę w świecie Gwiezdnych Wojen w dawnym Expanded Universe (Legends), w epoce zmierzchu Nowej Republiki.
How you are my hero
How your never here though
Remember times when you put me on your shoulders
How I wish it was forever you would hold us
Right now I’m too young to know
How in the future it will affect me when you go
You could have had it all
You, me, and mum y’know
Anything was possible
I wont be the lonely one
Sitting on my own and sad
A fifty year old
Reminiscing what I had
I wont be the lonely one
Sitting on my own and sad
Forget your dad, he’s gon
All I wanted was a kick-a-bout in the park
For you to race me home when it was nearly getting dark
How I could’ve been yours, and you be mine
It could’ve been me and you until the end of time
Do what you want, when you want
Be as fuckin’ insincere as you can
What kind of way is that to treat your wife
To see your son on Saturdays
What way is that to live your life?
I wont be the lonely one
Sitting on my own and sad
A fifty year old
Reminiscing what I had
I wont be the lonely one
Sitting on my own and sad
Forget your dad, he’s gone
Walking into the George Washington National Masonic Memorial was...awesome, in the true sense of the word. We struck the right time to arrive, as we were the only people visiting at the time (though I imagine not many know about the Memorial). One feels that to speak in a regular voice would be a violation, somehow. Sotto voce seemed more appropriate for most of our visit (but then, you all know what a hero of mine Washington is, so perhaps that made me more sensitive to the place).
The elegant and beautiful Memorial Hall, at 100 feet long, 66 feet wide, and 51 feet high and sculpted with great talent and care, is simultaneously ennervating and humbling. The design is clearly meant to lead the visitor's eye to the enormous, 17-foot bronze of George Washington. The effect is truly awe-inspiring, quieting, and throws one into immediate contemplation and consideration.
The Masonic Memorial is far, far better and more fitting than the Washington Memorial most of us are familiar with. It's quite grand, something of the sort we do not see in this country (thankfully), but for Washington...Well, it seems appropriate on one hand, but on the other, I do wonder what the man himself would think! After all, Washington much preferred his farm and businesses to war and politics.
Still, the veneration, so long as it does not devolve into idolization and deification, is merited. Few, few men since have been so beneficial to America (and the world) or so worthy of emulation. It is something even England's King George III recognized, doubtless with great amazement and awe.
The Masons intended to "express in durability and beauty the undying esteem of the Freemasons of the United States for him in whose memory it shall stand throughout the coming years." The designers and builders have truly accomplished their goal.
By the way, there is a beautiful video about Washington narrated by David McCullough here. It'll cause misty eyes, if you love America, if you long for men who even aspire to be so fine and selfless as Washington to arise again.
This one here is just to diversify a bit the ambiance in last pictures you can see in my stream... but soon I will com back to the previous stylistic :)

This fine example of a Sleeping Child figure is masterfully carved from a solid piece of highly prized ivory, including the arms. Only a master carver can successfully achieve perfect proportions, anatomical correctness, naif expression, and those delicate spaces between the limbs and the main body. He is richly adorned with an elaborate skull cap, bracelets and loin cover made of 14k rose gold in ‘binandili’ cut with tambourine design. Beautiful age cracks on the material are unfeigned signs of genuine old age. The Niño lays on a soft, red velvet bed in a 19th -century French style wedding glass dome brimming with gold-plated brass metalwork and mirror decorations. Every Christmas Eve, the Niño Dormido of households is taken out of the virina for the traditional “pahalik,” as family members would take turns kissing the Holy Child’s feet, similar to such rites performed in churches.

CARLOS 'BOTONG' FRANCISCO (1912 - 1969)
Ang Aguinaldo
Estimate: PHP 8,500,000 - 9,500,000
Signed (lower right) and undated (c. 1938)
Oil on canvas
71 x 96.5 cm (28 x 38 in)
Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity issued and signed by Victor Puyat, former President of the Botong Francisco Foundation, Makati City
National Artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco was a transformative figure in Philippine art, shifting from the romanticized Amorsolo style to modernism alongside Victorio Edades and Galo Ocampo, thus reshaping Philippine artistic expression.
‘Ang Aguinaldo,’ an early work by Botong, features a pre-colonial Philippine scene with a pregnant woman and a warrior bowing to a seated leader. The title, meaning "gift" or "present" in Spanish, contrasts with the traditional setting. Created before World War II, this painting reflects Botong's early style and anticipates his later murals.
A similar artwork appeared on the back cover of Graphic Magazine’s December 1938 Christmas edition. Despite the resemblance, differences in the details suggest that the magazine image and the oil on canvas painting are distinct works. Salcedo Auctions posits that these are variations on the same theme, given Botong's practice of creating similar works in different media.
The provenance of ‘Ang Aguinaldo’ is well-documented. Botong sold it to Gene Cabrera in 1938, who later sold it to Jaime Ledesma in 1975. Ledesma received a Certificate of Authenticity from Demetrio Diego, a prominent artist and collaborator with Botong. Suzano “Jun” Gonzales, a noted conservator, conducted minimal conservation. In 1979, Multinational Investment Bancorporation acquired the painting through East Asia Corporation for Arts & Antiquities.
A recent assessment of the painting by Victor Puyat, former President of the Botong Francisco Foundation, who knew the artist’s apprentice Salvador Juban personally, reaffirms the painting's authenticity. Puyat, who has graciously issued a Certificate of Authenticity for ‘Ang Aguinaldo’ notes that Botong’s distinctive technique in depicting the human body is evident and would be challenging to replicate. He adds that the faces in the painting, characterized by soft, roundish features and expressions, align with Botong’s known style. While the color palette differs from his later works, he likewise mentions that it is consistent with his early pieces, such as ‘Siesta Under the Mango Tree’ from 1938, and that the physical condition of the painting, along with its documented provenance, supports its status as a notable early masterpiece by Botong Francisco.

There are some major icicles hanging from the back deck and the gutters up front. Pretty simple setup - Nikon SB-24 flash on a stand behind the ice - location should be obvious. Fired with Cactus trigger.
Played around a bit in post but ultimately didn't do anything but crop and b&w conversion.
There are a ton of creative things I wanted to try (gelling the strobe, moving the strobe directly under the nice, etc), but it's )(*#@$ cold out there! I gave it about ~5 minutes - grabbed a few shots and called it a night.
Anyone know what these delicate autumn blooms are?
They were growing out atop thin tall stems about 4.5 ft tall, in a littl ebrownstone front yard garden on 20th street in Chelsea. Their leaves were large -- like squash or zucchini leaves, and theaves were thick and lower to the ground. Then, these thin little stems shot up high and exploded into these lovely little white blooms, dogwood-like in shape, three bifurcated white petals, bright yolk-yellow stamen and a hard pea gree-pea shaped pistil in the center.
Why am I describing them in such detail when you can just look at the photo? Well, when I spotted these, I was with my dear friend Maureen, who happens to be completely blind. Because she lost her sight in her mid-twenties, she can "see" though my descriptions (if they are detailed enough) and through touch (if she's allowed to palpate the object). Maureen stayed with me for a few days this week while attending a conference on pedestrian rights and walkable cities (a big issue for people with visual impairments -- think about it!) Because she lives in Chcago, we don't get to see each other much. And so I'm not adapted to her way of existing in the world. It always takes a bit of time to readjust to doing things in a way that both supports her fierce independence and enhances her experience of our environment. Once I get my groove back, I'm pretty good at it, because I don't mind slowing down & describing what's going on around me as it's happening. Try it -- you'll find it really enhances your experience, too!
This time, our exploration was especially difficult because we were in NYC (dealing with the subway -- TIMES SQUARE transfers -- with a blind woman, guide dogs, and throngs of self-absorbed New Yorkers) and especially interesting, because I was determined to be both guide and photographer. I wanted to continue "seeing my way" and share that with her. She's always very admant that her friends not alter their behavior because of her -- so I decided to continue carrying my camera & not worry about that being insensitive. The results were interesting. I found myself focusing on things at her hand-level. I also found myself appreciating my sight and being less discirminating about and tough on what I shot.
That's enough of my bable on this topic for now... More later perhaps... Lots of thoughts on this...
