I really love this song.....and it can be interpretated many ways.
For myself, I find that I am my own worst enemy. I have a hard time forgiving myself of things in my past....or even though I may have forgiven somebody else for things done to me....there is a scar that remains. Sometimes I feel like the"old" me has a grip on the "present" me...and I just want her to LET GO, so that I don't lost myself.
"Let Go" - RED
Hey you, look what you do to me
You bend and you bruise me
Why you try to control me?
But you don't know me
How come you just want to hurt me?
How come you just want to push me?
I can't ignore you anymore
Cause everywhere I turn you
You burn me, you break me
You always want to take me down with you
What do you want from me?
I don't wanna be afraid, I don't wanna run away
I don't want to be here fading it's more that I can take
I'm never gonna be the same
I threw it all away
I don't want to be here fading
Just let go! (look what you do to me)
Let go! (look what you do to me)
Hey you, look what you do to me
You burnt and you scared me
With all that you tell me (but I don't listen!)
You love me, you hate me
You always want to take me down with you
What do you want from me?
I don't wanna be afraid I don't wanna run away
I don't want to be here fading it's more that I can take
I'm never gonna be the same
I threw it all away
I don't want to be here fading
Just let
You kept pushing me
You keep using me
You keep twisting me
You keep breaking me
You can't have me anymore [x3]
You can't have me, let go!
I don't wanna be afraid, I don't wanna run away
I don't want to be here fading it's more that I can take
I'm never gonna be the same
I threw it all away
I don't want to be here fading
Just let go! Let go! Just let go!
I don't wanna be afraid
Let go! (I don't wanna run away!)
Just let go! Let go! Let go!

Two opposing styles unite in this building, endowing it with a special beauty, in spite of its austerity.
The former building was a mosque, maybe with five original naves and a subsequent sixth one, and an alminar.A big part of the side walls from this period remain, as well as the mihrab in the quibla wall and another opening where the alminbar ( a mobile wooden pulpit for the preacher)was kept. The starting point of the arches leading to the sahn, the oriental galleries and the canes supporting the eaves of the roof, also remain from this time.
After the christian conquest, the alminar was firstly elevated and buttressed so that it could stand the bells' weight by covering the former structure. Subsequently, maybe in the 15th century, the arches of the middle naves were pulled down to build a higher three aisled church, and a large gothic-mudejar apse with a star-shaped ribbed vault, that would be completed in 1515. During the Spanish Civil War a remarkable mudejar coffered ceiling burnt up.

CASTELLANO

The Magnificent and beautiful lady, the Statue of Liberty, Liberty Island, New York City. I was so moved by her stunning beauty and impressed by the absolute perfection of this marvelous representation of liberty. I took this photo of the magnificent Statue of Liberty on my first trip to Liberty Island and New York City in October 2004. She is of utmost beauty and I was totally blown away by her magnifigance.
THE STATUE OF LIBERTY
Liberty Enlightening the World (French: La liberté éclairant le monde), known more commonly as the Statue of Liberty (Statue de la Liberté), is a large statue that was presented to the United States by France in 1886. It stands at Liberty Island, New York in New York Harbor as a welcome to all visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans. The copper-clad statue, dedicated on October 28, 1886, commemorates the centennial of the United States and is a gesture of friendship from France to America. Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi sculpted the statue, and Alexandre Gustave Eiffel (designer of the Eiffel Tower) engineered the internal structure. Eugène Viollet-le-Duc was responsible for the choice of copper in the statue's construction and adoption of the repoussé technique.
The statue is of a female figure standing upright, dressed in a robe and a seven point spiked rays representing a nimbus (halo), holding a stone tablet close to her body in her left hand and a flaming torch high in her right hand. The tablet bears the words "JULY IV MDCCLXXVI" (July 4, 1776), commemorating the date of the United States Declaration of Independence.
The statue is made of a sheeting of pure copper, hung on a framework of steel (originally puddled iron) with the exception of the flame of the torch, which is coated in gold leaf. It stands atop a rectangular stonework pedestal with a foundation in the shape of an irregular eleven-pointed star. The statue is 151' 1" (46.5 m) tall, with the pedestal and foundation adding another 154 feet (46.9 m).
Worldwide, the Statue of Liberty is one of the most recognizable icons of the United States, and, more generally, represents liberty and escape from oppression. The Statue of Liberty was, from 1886 until the jet age, often one of the first glimpses of the United States for millions of immigrants after ocean voyages from Europe. The Statue of Liberty's obviously classical appearance (Roman stola, sandals, facial expression) derives from Libertas, ancient Rome's goddess of freedom from slavery, oppression, and tyranny. Broken shackles lie at her feet. The seven spikes in the crown represent the Seven Seas and seven continents. Her torch signifies enlightenment. The tablet in her hand shows the date of the nation's birth, July 4, 1776.
Since 1903, the statue, also known as "Lady Liberty," has been associated with Emma Lazarus's poem “The New Colossus” and has been a symbol of welcome to arriving immigrants. The interior of the pedestal contains a bronze plaque inscribed with the poem, which reads:
“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
There are 354 steps inside the statue and its pedestal. There are 25 windows in the crown which comprise the jewels beneath the seven rays of the diadem. The tablet which the Statue holds in her left hand reads, in Roman numerals, "July 4, 1776" the day of America's independence from Britain. The Statue of Liberty was engineered to withstand heavy winds. Winds of 50 miles per hour cause the Statue to sway 3 inches (7.62 cm) and the torch to sway 5 inches (12.7 cm). This allows the Statue to move rather than break in high [wind load] conditions.

This is the Bagdad Cafe on Route 66 in Newberry Springs, California. The car out front belongs to my friends Hans and Jonas Hannsson of Malmo, Sweden, and is a Volvo PV they customized themselves into the hot rod convertible you see here. They temporarily imported this car for a long wished for trip across the U.S. on Route 66. They had a wonderful time!
The original photo was taken by Jonas Hansson, and with Jonas' permission, I've been selecting some of my favorite photos of their road trip along the "Mother Road" and doing some post processing... enhancing, cropping, tone mapping, special effects, etc. The original photo was not so great. I used Photoshop to crop and enhance the photo, then my Photoshop filter "Fractalius" to turn it into a digital painting/drawing.
Below is a link to Hans and Jonas' blog about their historic trip:

INFORMATION ON THE BAGDAD CAFE:
Bagdad Cafe, a movie centering on old Route 66, was filmed in the Newberry Springs area. The Bagdad Cafe located in Newberry Springs is not the original Bagdad Cafe, the original cafe was located in the town of Bagdad between Amboy and Ludlow on old Route 66. Nothing remains of the old cafe in Bagdad. The Newberry Springs cafe is a Route 66 survivor though and was once known as the Sidewinder Cafe. After the movie was filmed here the name Bagdad Cafe just seemed to stick. It is open for business today serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. If you are coming through the area I would recommend stopping here. Say hi to Andrea Pruett, the proprietor, while you're at it. She has done a great job of keeping the Bagdad Cafe alive for all us Mother Road fans. If you're lucky, maybe General Bob will show up and entertain you with his colorful stories from the past! The nearest large town to the Cafe is Barstow. You'll find the Bagdad Cafe between the east and west off-ramps of I-40, at Newberry Springs, east of Barstow
INFORMATION ON NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CALIFORNIA:
The area around Newberry Springs has been a source of water in the arid Mojave Desert since the earliest days. The site of Camp Cady is located a few miles from present day Newberry Springs, and was a resting place and watering hole along the Mojave River for wagon trains coming to California in the 1850's on the old Mormon Trail. In the 1880's the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad hauled tank cars of water from Newberry Springs to the stations and towns in the area making life in this arid land possible.

I've said this before but this summer here in Mississauga has gotta be the Red Admiral summer..I see these beauties everywhere I go..so many of them..around..Too beautiful NOT to photograph again and again and again lol :) Hope you aren't bored with seeing them..I'm not bored shooting them yet lol sorries.
"The red admiral butterfly belongs to the vanessid group of butterflies. They are among the largest and most colorful butterflies that inhabit the northern temperate regions of the world. Vanessa butterflies are found throughout much of the world. Besides the red admiral butterfly, this group includes the tortoiseshell, painted lady, peacock, Camberwell beauty, and comma butterflies."
"This large butterfly is identified by its striking dark brown, red and black wing pattern. More specifically, the dark wings possess orange bands that cross the fore wings and on the outer edge of the hind wings; white spots on the dorsal fore wings near the front margin; reddish bars on dorsal surface of all four wings."
"The common name "Red Admiral" compares this band to the chevrons on a naval uniform."

Its incredible how FAST the butterflies are.. Shot at 1/750s and still the motion blur...this is not camera shake (evident with the bottom left flower sharpness!)
WOW.. getting motion blur at such speed just shows how the butterflies take off and why its so hard to photograph them IN-FLIGHT!
I tried to catch the butterflies in flight literally dozens of times during this vacation... but this is the only one i have with me to showcase!

www.cornwallinfocus.co.uk/mining/levant.php
Levant Mine is located 2 miles north of St.Just and is bounded to the east by Geevor Mine, to the west by Wheal Unity and to the south by Spearn Moor and Spearn Consols mines. Levant appears as a mine in its own right on maps dating from 1748 on and consists of an amalgamation of several smaller and more ancient concerns. Their names such as Boscregan and Unity live on as shaft names. What we would consider today as modern Levant was formed in about 1820 by a group of investors - known in the trade as 'mining adventurers', who agreed to raise the sum of £400 by purchasing 80 shares at £5 each.
Two of the main investors in the company were Lewis Charles Daubuz and Mr John Batten. Their leadership along with some excellent prospecting helped the company to locate a large copper deposit at a depth of 20 fathoms (120 feet) below the surface. The adventurers rapidly got a handsome return on their investment and further exploratory work was carried out. From 1835 Levant began raising tin and was soon to become an important tin producer too. In the period 1820 to 1930 Levant produced over 130,000 tons of copper ore of high (10%) grade and 24,000 tons of black tin. In 1912 5,278 ounces of silver and 4 ounces of gold were also sold.
Levant swallowed up the nearby mine of Spearne Consols - now known as Higher Bal. Shafts were opened up at Angwin's shaft, Tresize's shaft, Goldsworthy's shaft and Batten's shaft. The underground workings of Levant extended out under the sea but in general due to the bedrock being the impervious greenstone there were very few problems with flooding.
A 'man engine' was installed on Daubuz's shaft in 1856 reached by a tunnel from the Miner's Dry. The shaft subsequently became known as engine Shaft one of only a dozen or so installed in Cornish mines. The journey time from surface to work place was radically reduced from over an hour to less than half an hour in most cases. The workers arriving fresher and more ready for work into the bargain. Along with all the new shafts and the installation of the man engine all the usual associated surface buildings sprang up around the site - stamps, both Cornish stamps and Californian stamps types; a calciner for roasting the ore and a mill area containing rag frames and buddles.
Levant is quite unusual amongst Cornish mines in one respect as it did use pit ponies for a short time from 1893 to tram the ore on the main 278 fathom (below adit) tramming level some 1600 feet underground. Levant is also remembered for the Levant Mine Disaster in October 1919. The second worst loss of life underground in a Cornish mine. 31 men were lost when the man engine snapped and fell down through the shaft.

I'm frustrated because I can't figure out what these are, even though they appear to be very common. These were growing in the path that they cut out of the cattails and there were more in the demonstration garden next to the visitors' center, but there was no sign for them, even though there were signs for most of the other plants.
Thanks for the help, Maureclaire! I think this probably is a Western Goldenrod. At least, that's the name I'm going with.
After visiting the Grand Canyon, we spent an afternoon visiting Williams, Arizona and walking down the old town Route 66 admiring the vintage buildings, cafes and shops. We still didn't see it all and want to return for another visit soon. In this shot of the cafe I used Photoshop filter "Fractalius" to enhance the original photo.

Cruisers Cafe 66
233 W. Route 66
Williams, AZ
Enjoy a nostalgic experience at the Cruisers Cafe 66! Just imagine your favorite 1950s-style favorite high school hangout, add in cocktail service, and you have this charming Cafe. Here you will find classic American favorites, such as good burgers, steaks, ribs, seafood, salads, and malts. Special decor touches, such as the large mural, stuffed buffalo, and historic cars out front make this a Route 66 favorite. Adults and kids alike enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the jukebox tunes.
INFORMATION ON WILLIAMS, ARIZONA & ROUTE 66:
Relive the glory of Old Route 66 on the Route 66 Loop Through Williams, Arizona, the only stretch of Route 66 on the National Historic Register. At the turn of the century a muddy pathway developed along the railroad tracks. Within 20 years private booster clubs linked together sections of road to form a ribbon from Chicago to the West and it was called the Old Trails National Highway.
John Steinbeck, in 1939, proclaimed Route 66 as the “Mother Road” in his classic novel The Grapes of Wrath. When the movie was made just a year later, it immortalized Route 66 in the American consciousness.
In 1926 U.S. Highway 66 was established to serve the ever increasing highway traffic. "Route 66", the Main Street of America, came right through Williams, and a great deal of tourist-related business grew up along the famous route.
The highway's heyday saw a succession of Dust Bowl migrants, World War II troops, families on vacation, and others making their way across "the mother road". But the increased traffic overwhelmed the highway and it was gradually replaced by the interstate system. In 1984, Williams became the last Route 66 town to be bypassed by the Interstate-40.
Much of Route 66 still remains as a reminder of the past, including the "loop" through Williams. Celebrating its heritage, the town of Williams recently returned Bill Williams Avenue to its original name of Route 66. This stretch of American history was awarded National Historic Register status in 1989. Williams' share of Route 66 is also home to The Route 66 Place, featuring Twister's Soda Fountain and the largest collection of Route 66 memorabilia in town.
Today you can cruise the loop on historic Route 66 in Williams, or take a leisurely stroll along the many shops and restaurants that line this legendary roadway.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
October 13, 1984 (I wonder if it was a Friday) the last remaining stretch of Route 66 was bypassed by the opening of a six mile segment of nearby Interstate 40. But Williams lives on. It is another true Route 66 town. Williams not only survived but is at the heart of a Route 66 revival. The downtown area has been cleaned up; new streetlights, fresh paint, and sidewalks have brought the town back to life. The community takes pride in its special relationship to the Mother Road and it shows.
Williams was named for one of the most colorful of all Mountain Men, Old Bill Williams. Though it is debated whether he ever was in the area of the town and mountain that bears his name, it is a well known fact that he was "acquainted with every inch of the Far West" as he would have put it. Williams was founded in 1876 and nothing much happened here until the railroad arrived in 1882. In 1901 the Santa Fe Railroad laid tracks from Williams to the Grand Canyon and insured Williams' claim as Gateway to the Grand Canyon.
The Grand Canyon Railroad reopened in the late 1980's and started running train tours to the Grand Canyon from the beautiful Frey Marcos Harvey House and Depot which has been restored to its former grandeur. The Grand Canyon has always been a Route 66 destination though it is located 50 miles from the Mother Road. Route 66 was always the primary highway vacationers used to get there.
Route 66 souvenir shops offer every imaginable piece of memorabilia of the old road. There are plenty of fine motels and cafes that bring back the flavor of Route 66 in its hey day. Williams is a great place to stop and explore and maybe even stay a day or two if you have the time.
Amigos/as:
La campaña contra el ingreso en prisión y la criminalización de los manteros atraviesa un momento crítico. Por eso, de forma urgente hemos elaborado este manifiesto en el que se os informa de la situación y se os invita a suscribirlo en concepto de asociación/colectivo social. Os quedaríamos muy agradecidos si le pudierais dar la máxima difusión. La urgencia es máxima, pues el próximo lunes entregaremos el manifiesto con las firmas que hasta entonces hayamos recogido.
Si deseáis adheriros podéis mandad un correo a manteros@inmigrapenal.com indicando el nombre del colectivo y los datos de quien realiza la adhesión.
Muchísimas gracias por vuestra ayuda.
Las asociaciones y colectivos del tejido social abajo firmantes queremos poner de manifiesto a la opinión pública:
I.- Hace unos meses constatábamos con perplejidad que más de medio millar de personas han sido encarceladas en el Estado por la mera circunstancia de exhibir y vender CD pirata. Detectamos entonces penas sorprendentes de prisión de hasta dos años y más: había “manteros” que veían prolongada su permanencia en prisión por no poder hacer frente a las magras responsabilidades civiles a las que se les condenaba y a las multas que se les imponían.
II.- De la mano de artistas, profesionales del Derecho, movimientos sociales y de los propios afectados iniciamos una Campaña con el objeto de eliminar del Código Penal la prisión para un tipo de comportamiento concreto movido por la necesidad de supervivencia que tiene mejor acomodo en el derecho administrativo sancionador. No se trata de legalizar el top-manta sino de perseguirlo por otros medios que no sean el encarcelamiento.
III.- Al mismo tiempo que apoyábamos indultos para las personas presas por esta causa y abonábamos multas y responsabilidades civiles para lograr la pronta excarcelación de los que peor lo pasaban, conectamos con los diferentes grupos parlamentarios y les hicimos partícipes de nuestro intento de proponer la modificación del Código Penal que avalamos con dictámenes jurídicos que fueron respaldados por numerosos profesores universitarios, juristas y ciudadanos en general.
IV.- El top manta no es la infracción que más gravemente perjudica al derecho de propiedad intelectual de los artistas; las mayores agresiones vienen de otros campos. Por otro lado, el propio legislador reconoce en el Preámbulo de la Ley que la reforma del año 2003 supuso una quiebra de la proporcionalidad respecto a la venta a pequeña escala y que los autores son personas en situación de necesidad y de pobreza, que sólo aspiran a alcanzar mínimos ingresos de subsistencia; se trata de personas que tienen prohibido legalmente ganarse la vida con un contrato legal que tratan de sobrevivir con los escasos ingresos de una actividad, ilegal, sí, pero de escaso daño social.
V.- Reconocemos que la mayoría de los grupos parlamentarios del Congreso han escuchado nuestras razones y que, aunque el texto aprobado por el Congreso no garantiza que por conductas tan nimias como la del “mantero” se meta en prisión a un ciudadano, dicha redacción supone una mejora respecto a la situación actual. Sin embargo, existe el peligro cierto de que estos avances se pierdan en el Senado. A consecuencia de la presión de las Sociedades Gestoras de los Derechos de Autor, Convergencia i Unio y el Grupo Parlamentario Popular han introducido una enmienda en el Senado de características represivas que supondría un gran retroceso. Se argumenta que tratar como falta los supuestos más nimios (cuando el beneficio no excede de 400 euros) constituye “un absoluto desarme procesal y policial”. Esta afirmación, inspirada sin duda por los intereses de las empresas de gestión de derechos de autor y de la propiedad industrial, además de mostrar una cruel insensibilidad acerca de la situación de extremada precariedad de las personas que practican el top-manta, es rotundamente falsa. En efecto, en la redacción emanada del Congreso sigue existiendo protección penal plena para la propiedad intelectual e industrial; la consideración de falta de algunos supuestos (por debajo de 400 euros) no constituye un desarme penal ni procesal, ni mucho menos policial, pues hay todo un Libro del Código Penal dedicado a las faltas que está siendo aplicado. Incluso en el supuesto que seguimos defendiendo, de que no se considerasen ilícito penal los supuestos con beneficio por debajo de los 400 euros, la diligencia persecutoria policial se seguiría desplegando en el ámbito administrativo sancionador, como podemos comprobar los ciudadanos en otros ámbitos (por ejemplo, las infracciones a las normas de circulación). Por eso, nos parece un despropósito derrochar recursos del sistema penal y policial en perseguir estas conductas para sobreproteger intereses de poderosos grupos de presión.
VI.- Por consiguiente, urgimos a los Sres. y Sras. Senadores/as para que no se dejen presionar por los intereses de empresas de gestión que perfectamente pueden hacer valer sus derechos de un modo más justo, proporcionado y, desde luego, generando menos sufrimiento estéril, asumiendo la reforma aprobada por el Congreso de los Diputados o, mejor aún, aprobando la efectiva desincriminación de las conductas más irrelevantes pues su despenalización no significa su legalización, ni que dichas conductas se vayan a incrementar, pues el simple comiso de sus pobres mercancías supone una gravísima consecuencia para estas personas, además de la posibilidad de ser detenido y expulsado por carecer de residencia legal. No es tanto lo que les pedimos: el Derecho penal de un Estado social no debería utilizarse para criminalizar la pobreza de una forma tan injusta como evidente.
El Grupo Inmigración y Sistema Penal, Plataforma de artistas ‘ningún mantero en prisión’ Otro Derecho Penal es Posible Colectivo de Juristas por la despenalización del Top manta Plataforma Salvemos la Hospitalidad …/…
The theme building at Los Angeles International Airport resembles a UFO in this silhouetted image juxtaposed against the dusk sky. The light standards and high intensity lights add to the "other worldliness of this image". This is a Kodachrome 64 slide scanned using an Epson Perfection V500 Photoscanner. Color matching using Photoshop CS5 software. Uploaded in Picnik. The original photograph was taken in 1983. Since that time this unique building designed by Welton Beckett has undergone several retrofittings for seismic strengthening and remodelling. (This reminds me of the "War of the Worlds" film version made in the 1950's.)
Sometimes magic just happens without planning, as with this photo! I had NO IDEA when I took this that I'd be taking a hilarious self-portrait! I plopped onto the futon to catch a photo of Cooper snoozing at the other end. He opened his eyes to see what I was up to, and I snapped a quick pic. It wasn't until I pulled it up on the computer that I saw what I had!
www.herpfrance.com/reptile/spanish_terrapin_mauremys_lepr...
History and origin
The Spanish Terrapin was first described by Schweigger in 1812, the scientific name of this species is Mauremys leprosa. Mauremys from Greek meaning "Mauritanian" and "Terrapin". Leprosa comes from Greek and means "leprosy" Schweigger first examined old specimens which had infected structures on the scales making him think that the animals were infected with leprosy.
Characteristics
They are one of the larger Mauremys species.
Description
=Size=
Their eggs are about 35 mm by 21 mm in size. The young hatch out measuring around 32 mm long. They will grow up to 250 mm long in their 20 year life.
=Morphology=
Their shell is quite flat, and oval. The edges of the shell are smooth and have no spikes or teeth.
=Patterns & colours=
Their colours range from orange-brown to olive, the young also have small orange or yellow markings on every scale. Their plastron is yellow with a dark patch sometimes with a light line running down the middle. Their head resembles American terrapins with a light pattern running from the neck to the tympan. The young have a bluish back colour on their skin.
Geographical range
In France they are only fond in the southernmost department called the Pyrénées Orientales, and within that range they can only be the Albères region.
Subspecies
In Europe this species has no sub-species. Their sub-species are all found in Morocco, and they are distinguished only by very small morphological variations. These sub-species are: M. l. atlantica, M. l. erhardi, M. l. saharica, M. l. marokkensis, M. l. vanmeerhaeghei, M. l. wernerkaestlei and M. l. zizi.
Sexual differences
None.
Seasonal variations
None.
Diet
They feed on small fish, amphibians, tadpoles and insects. They sometimes feed on reeds and other plants.
Defensive habits
They will dive into the water and hide in the vegetation or in the mud.
Reproduction
Breeding occurs in March or April, this happens under the water. The mating is fast and they do a simple ritual, the male moves around the females head while he also stretches his legs. The females can lay up to 3 clutches a year, the eggs are laid only a few meters away form the water in a dry place. The eggs hatch after approximately 60 days.
Sexual maturity, life span
The average life span for Mauremys leprosa is about 20 years, the males reach their sexual maturity in their seventh year whereas the females are mature in around their tenth year.
Habits
They are very secretive, they enjoy sunbathing on the banks but are always on guard and dive when alerted.
Habitat
They enjoy water holes with a clay floor, usually with a lot vegetation debris. Their habitat is usually stagnant water. They are very tolerant to pollution and may withstand very polluted water.
Predators
Their only threat is loss of habitat.
"The house looked as though it would be more fun to sketch than to live in, which isn't surprising, as it was built by an artist who had married one of his models". Junichiro Tanizaki, A fool's love (trans. by Anthony H. Chambers)
谷崎潤一郎の家の蝉の声.
Monse at the entrance of the rented house in Kobe's Higashi Nada ward where Tanizaki Jun'ichirô lived for two years beginning in 1924. It was the first day that year (2005) we heard the cicadas, but only there in Tanizaki's house: they went out to the rest of Japan many days after. The house served as model for the one described in Chijin no ai (A Fool's Love) and is often referred to as "Naomi's House". We visited it less than a year before its destruction this April. Now it will be relocated, most likely in the same park in Higashi Nada where Tanizaki's famous self-designed house (destroyed in the 1995 Kobe Earthquake) is currently being reconstructed.
New York Dance Parade 2011.
Taken on St. Mark's Place. East Village, New York City.
Dance parade is an annual parade and festival that showcases dance of all kinds as an expression of art and culture. It takes place in New York City each May, on the Saturday before Memorial Day.
Greg Miller, a social entrepreneur and dance aficionado, established the non-profit organization in December, 2006 and led an all-volunteer group that produced the inaugural parade on May 19, 2007. Over 2300 dancers from 75 organizations made their way down Manhattan’s Broadway and Fifth Avenue on and around eight floats. Ending in front of the Washington Square Memorial Arch, the parade culminated in 31 performances highlighting native New York dance styles such as hip-hop, jazz dance, break dancing, and salsa.
As defined by its Board of Directors, Dance parade’s mission is “to promote dance as an expressive and unifying art form by showcasing all forms of dance, educating the general public about the opportunities to experience dance, and celebrating diversity of dance in New York City by sponsoring a yearly city-wide dance parade and dance festival”.
The 2011 New York Dance Parade took place on Saturday May 21st. The parade featured swing dancing, samba, tango, pole dancers and more. Source
I can't believe I just became someone who uses a selfie stick. (Stephanie's friend Mayte had one.)
#TransPrideSeattle
...
Tess, Gabriel's transgender daughter, is the biggest reason we were all there on Friday evening, and somehow we all managed to squish her almost out of sight in this picture! The girl on the left is one of her best friends, and I don't remember her name. That's Uber-Go-Team-Dad Gabriel in the background; his current wife Kornelija on the right and his ex-wife Stephanie to my right. To Stephanie's right is her friend Mayte, who whipped the selfie stick out of her purse when I said I wanted to get a shot of us all. She offered to take the photo but knowing she was part of the group I told her I wanted her in it. (Turns out Tess's friend's parents were also there so I guess there was a bigger group than I thought, and maybe that means I excluded some people here?) P.S. Mayte was also the name of the woman Prince was married to between 1996 and 2000. She was a belly dancer. I'm pretty sure this Mayte was none of those things.
Young girls in Al-Arroub refugee camp (north Hebron) August 2010.
The camp has 2 entrees each one controled by a 15 meters high concrete mirador (or military tower); one is closed to any vehicule and the other subject to be blocked any time. Heavily armed Israeli soldiers enter the camp night and day to patrol, scare the children, shooting sound, gas or shooting dum-dum at what they call was a danger (last June they blew up a 15 year old teenager, one week after this pic they scared to death a 7 year old boy in night, last year they blew up a 2 years old baby...)
Le camp est entoure de 2 miradors haut d'une quinzaine de metres en béton, de checkpoints (de gros blocs de pierre bloquant tout véhicule a 4 roues). Les lycéen-e-s allant a l'ecole dans le bourg voisin sont regulirement interdits de passer. Les habitants sont soumis à des tirs de gaz ou de balles (y-compris "dum-dum": explosives). Adolescents et pères sont arrêtés et mis en détention ADMINISTRATIVE (càd sans aucune charge contre eux) pendant N mois, ou N années laissant leurs familles dans le désespoir. Ca dure depuis 1967. 43 ans que nous laissons des salopards en uniforme humilier, blesser et tuer ces réfugiés :-(
Pourtant, les enfants et les jeunes ici sont merveilleux de politesse, de sourires, d'accueil et de vie quand les soldats regagnent leurs tours...
A bit of beauty and the beast going on in my stream with a cage fighter photo going in amongst the girls.
Well, on Saturday I was doing my usuals at the cage event and standing by the door of the cage as these two rather burly guys were giving it the beans. I saw them heading towards me and was thinking this would make a good photo when all of a sudden the door flew open with the two fighters following.
So now I'm sporting a nice blackeye (courtesy of my camera), a big bruise on my right foot and a very sore right elbow and hand.
Fortunately, my camera and lens seem fine (this was the very same lens that fell on the floor a couple of weeks ago too so it's had a good durability test).
The last week end was very busy. I've made a lot a photo with my new lens (canon 50 f1.8 II) to test its (and mine) skills. One of the best picture taken was this Golia's portrait.
Lo scorso week end è stato piuttosto impegnativo. Ho scattato un sacco di foto con il nuovo obiettivo per saggiare le sue e li mie capacità. Uno degli scatti migliori e questo di Golia.
Sorry I haven't uploaded in the past couple of days. Been feeling un-inspired which is pretty lame :( . Oh well...we all go through it haha.
Anyways, today I picked up some Kodak Portra 160VC 35mm film! I can't wait to see how the photos I take with it come out! This portrait here is digital, but I also took this same shot with the Portra film :). I'll post as soon as I am done shooting/developing the roll!
Hope you all enjoy!
Sant Romà de Sau, Girona (Spain).
ENGLISH
The reservoir of Sau, constructed between 1949 and 1962, covered the town of Sant Romà de Sau, the rest of which, specially of the bell tower of the romnesque church of 11th century, they are visible when the level of the dammed water is low and at times of drought prolonged the town is in the open and even it is possible to visit.
The origins of Sau go back to year 917, and the parochial church to 11th century. The present population formed in 1962 when finalizing the construction of the dam and the waters had to cover the old town of Sant Romà de Sau. Although he was enough uninhabited (in the nomenclator of 1860 the parish appeared like “uninhabited”), counted with some masias, a Romanesque bridge and a Romanesque church of 11th century of Lombard style.
At the moment of the photos the reservoir is approximately at 10% of its capacity, its historical minimum, mainly because the long run drought that has been undergoing this part of Catalunya for years. The proliferation of nonnative fish introduced by practisers of sport fishing, the low water level and the high insolation of the zone cause a high level of plancton and microscopic seaweed that contaminates the water, reason why in autumn of the 2005 began a draining of this dam in the one of Susqueda to improve the quality of the drinking water, and the collection of fish before they die by lack of oxygen and gets worse still more the quality of the water. Rains of October 2005 temporarily interrupted the draining, that has become to reactivate at beginning of 2008.
El pantano de Sau, construido entre 1949 y 1962, cubrió el pueblo de Sant Romà de Sau, los restos del cual, especialmente del campanario de la iglesia románica del siglo XI, son visibles cuando el nivel del agua embalsada es bajo e incluso en épocas de sequia prolongada el pueblo queda al descubierto y es posible visitarlo.
Los orígenes de Sau se remontan al año 917, y la iglesia parroquial al siglo XI. La población actual se formó cuando en 1962 al finalizar la construcción del embalse y las aguas debían cubrir el antiguo pueblo de Sant Romà de Sau. Aunque estaba bastante despoblado (en el nomenclátor de 1860 la parroquia figuraba como "deshabitada"), contaba con algunas masías, un puente románico y una iglesia de estilo románico lombardo del siglo XI.
En el momento de las fotos el embalse está aproximadamente al 10% de su capacidad, su mínimo histórico, debido principalmente a la larga sequía que sufre esta parte de Catalunya desde hace años. La proliferación de peces no autóctonos introducidos por practicantes de pesca deportiva, el bajo nivel de agua y la alta insolación de la zona provocan un alto nivel de plancton y algas microscópicas que contaminan el agua, por lo que en otoño del 2005 se inició un vaciado de este embalse en el de Susqueda para mejorar la calidad del agua potable, y la recogida de peces antes de que mueran por falta de oxígeno y empeore aún más la calidad del agua. Las lluvias de octubre del 2005 interrumpieron temporalmente el vaciado, que se ha vuelto a reactivar a primeros del 2008.
This is adapted from two of Elise's recipes, Curry Rice Salad and Ginger Pineapple Fried Rice. I like the curry infused oil idea from the Curry Rice Salad and combined it with the minced ginger and the scallions. Next I added shrimp to the fried rice. I marinated the shrimps with ground coriander, curry powder and paprika. So here is my adapted version of Curry Ginger Pineapple Fried Rice with Shrimps....
Peanut Oil
Curry powder
Finely minced fresh peeled ginger
Scallions (white and pale green parts separated from greens)
Pineapple, diced or cubed
Cooked rice, white or brown (your choice or preference)
Shrimp, peeled and deveined
Shrimp marinade: Ground coriander, curry powder and paprika
Cashews
In a large skillet over medium high heat add about 2-3 tablespoons of peanut oil and a couple heaping tablespoons curry powder. Let the curry simmer for a minute then add the minced ginger and white parts of the scallions and fry for another minute or so. Next add the marinated shrimps and cook until shrimp becomes opaque. Add the cooked rice, about 1 1/2 to 2 cups, left over white rice would be great for this. Mix well and make sure the rice is coated well with the curry mixture. Then add in the cubed pineapples, about 1 cup. Remove from heat, stir in cashews, green parts of the scallion and chopped cilantro.
Enjoy!
自從大二從老爸那裡接收第一台底片單眼時,
我就離不開拍照了。
對我來說,
拍照迷人的地方在於
底片幫我們把所有快樂/ 悲傷/模糊的時刻都保存下來了
照片永遠不會說謊。
於是
我最近開始思考著
我好想被什麼人需要
被那些喜歡我照片的人
被那些理解我眼中所見美好的人的需要著
我好想好想幫需要我的人拍出美麗的照片,
被心事困擾的眼神/淺色髮絲間的逆光/被微風吹動裙擺飄起的瞬間
我一直在思考著我能夠做些什麼事情,
讓這個世界的某個微小片段變得更美好。
我不是革命家/儘管我反核 我卻找不到阻止核電繼續運轉的辦法
我不會彈吉他/我無法像黃玠可以寫出一首美好的歌,
在這混亂的世界中帶給人們一絲希望與光
我還不是一位詩人 / 儘管我非常嚮往, 但我還無法寫出一首簡潔有力但震撼人心的美好詩句
但我喜歡拍照/我可以拍照
假如我的照片可以把某些人某些美好的時刻完整的保存下來
那是不是也是可以把心中的烏托邦傳遞給這個世界呢?
「和平與愛」「All we need is love.」
我只想藉由照片傳遞這個,
如此而已。
假如真的有需要我的人
其實我也同樣需要著你們
'Writing Spider (Argiope aurantia)' On Black
From: home.att.net/~larvalbugrex/argiope.html
Argiope
by Valerie (October 25, 2001)
revised September 23, 2004
The largest orb weaver in our gardens is the black and yellow argiope (Argiope aurantia). Actually, only the female is large, the males being much smaller by comparison. Although big enough to deliver a bite, these spiders are not poisonous or aggressive. The black and yellow argiope is also called banana spider, yellow garden spider, zipper spider, golden orb weaver and writing spider. There are a number of other species in the genus Argiope, but most that occur in the U.S. are restricted to tropical climates. A related species inhabits gardens in Europe. Because they make such big webs and are brightly colored, it is impossible for a resident argiope to remain unnoticed in the garden or, as they sometimes look for sheltered areas, on the side of a house. We had one spider who thought the ideal location for her web was right by our front door over the doorbell. She stayed there all summer, enjoying frequent feedings of any large insects we could find to throw into her web.
The argiope spiders make excellent photography subjects because they don't react to the camera lens. Part of the reason is probably their rather poor vision, as they do not rely on sight to catch prey, but on the vibrations produced in their webs. Smaller orb weavers, like members of the genus Araneus, which also inhabit our yard, sometimes make webs even bigger than the argiopes, but they are very difficult to photograph. Maybe because they are small and tasty morsels for birds, these spiders do not sit in the middle of their web during the day, but usually hide in a nearby leaf at the base of one of the web support strands. If they happen to be in the middle of the web, my approach with the camera almost always makes them retreat to a safe hiding place. In spite of their large size and the care with which they place their webs, the argiope spiders in our yard are often taken by predators such as birds.
An interesting feature of many orb webs is the central white design created by the spider, called a stabilimentum (referring to the idea that it helps stabilize the web). With argiopes, this area is almost round and filled in with many zigzags of silk when the spider is young, but as it grows, the design changes to be more of a single vertical zigzag. Spiders are capable of creating as many as seven different kinds of silk using several different glands that supply the spinnerets. argiope spider hanging under its recently shed exoskeletonThe photo at left shows the underside of an adult female argiope. The spinnerets appear as a group of brown structures forming an irregular shaped disk. The different types of silk have varying amino acid compositions. The silk coming out of the spinnerets can vary from an extremely fine single line, like those used to create the main support lines on their web, to wide ribbons of silk used for subduing prey or making the central design on their web. Spiders can vary the stickiness of the silk as well as it's thickness. The purpose of the central design in many spiders' webs is not completely understood. It could serve several purposes, including a way to conceal the spider from its prey or its predators (which could explain why the patch is more disruptive for small, young spiders than for large ones), a way to keep birds from blundering into the web, or a lure for insects, as the silk reflects ultraviolet light in much the same way as do flower centers. Another spider habit that has never been fully explained is that of hanging upside down in the web. Almost all spiders do this but I've never heard a definitive explanation.
In order to grow, spiders must periodically shed their exoskeletons. This is a fascinating process to watch, but one which leaves the spider very vulnerable until its new skin hardens. When the spider is about to shed, the inside layers of its skin are digested. It anchors its legs on part of its web, hanging upside down. The top of the carapace splits open and the spider literally falls out of its old shell. It doesn't fall because it is anchored by a strand of silk from its spinnerets. As soon as the spider is completely free of its old skin, it hangs limp for awhile, then spreads its legs out to let them dry.female argiope spider just before laying eggs In the photograph above at right, the old skin is visible at the top, while the spider hangs below. At this point the spider is expanding its size, and it can even grow a new limb if one was lost before.
The females are easy to spot in their webs, but the males (photo at right) tend to be harder to find. When they are young, both the males and females look similar, but the males seem to never grow much, while the females become quite large. The males also do not remain in their original area if there is no female around. Once they mature, they must search out a female with whom to mate. Often, it is possible to find the tiny males living in their small webs just to the side of a female's large web. While both genders of argiopes have the habit of holding their legs in an X pattern, the males seem to make the posture more pronounced, possibly as an aid to their protective camouflage.
Just before laying eggs, the female spider is often quite large, her abdomen considerably distended. Argiopes produce large numbers of young in their egg sacs. argiope egg caseAlthough one sac seems to be the norm, we saw one female produce three over a period of a couple of weeks and have heard of a single spider producing four and still going strong. Unlike some spiders, such as the green lynx, who guard their eggs and young, argiopes tend to leave their eggs to their fate. The egg case looks like a miniature Greek wine vessel, with a bulbous shape and a little round neck at the top. The color of the egg case is brown and it is anchored within a framework of silk strands, keeping it away from surrounding vegetation. Although this protects the case from some predators, like ants, other predators and parasites lay their eggs within the cases as well. These tenants include other species of spiders as well as wasps. The young spiders hatch in the fall but overwinter in the egg case. These cases are very well constructed and we've seen them last not only through the winter, but through another year as well, before the weather eventually takes its toll and they are washed away.
Like many spiders, argiopes live only one year, expending all their energy into producing eggs (females) or sperm (males). They die once winter arrives.
