Quote from Wikipedia "Another Place is a piece of modern sculpture by Antony Gormley.
Now permanently erected on Crosby Beach, England, it was due to be moved to New York in November 2006, but there was a controversial proposal to retain the work at Crosby. It was stated in the local paper, the Crosby Herald, that they may stay for a decade, but at a meeting on 7 March 2007, Sefton Council accepted proposals that would allow the sculptures to be kept permanently at Crosby Beach"

ENGLISH
The White-fronted Amazon, Amazona albifrons also known as White-fronted Parrot, or adopted slang term Spectacled Amazon Parrot is a Central American species of parrot. Not to be confused with the Red-spectacled Amazon Parrot.
The White-fronted Amazon is relatively small when compared to other Amazons. At maturity this species will grow to a typical length of only nine to ten inches. This species is named for the bright white patch of feathers which is seen on their foreheads, although the amount of white varies from individual to individual. They have green plumage throughout, red coloring around their eyes (in some individuals almost like a mask) and blue coloring on their outspread wings and behind the patch of white on their foreheads. Unlike other amazon species, males and females can be distinguished by appearance (sexual dimorphism): males have bright red feathers on their shoulders (alula), while females have green shoulders. The species is divided into three subspecies, differentiated by slight colour differences: the White-fronted Amazon (A. a. albifrons), the Lesser White-fronted Amazon (A. a. nana) and the Sonora White-fronted Amazon (A. a. saltuensis). Like other large parrots, the White-fronted Parrot has a long life span, usually around 40 years when properly cared for. They also can imitate a range from 30 to 40 different sounds.

CASTELLANO

---- Selge (in Greek Σελγη) was an important city in Pisidia, on the southern slope of Mount Taurus, modern Antalya Province, Turkey, at the part where the river Eurymedon River (Turkish: Köprüçay)forces its way through the mountains towards the south.
The town was believed to be a Greek colony, for Strabo[1] states that it was founded by Spartans, but adds the somewhat unintelligible remark that previously it had been founded by Calchas. The acropolis of Selge bore the name of Kesbedion.[2] The district in which the town was situated was extremely fertile, producing abundance of oil and wine, but the town itself was difficult of access, being surrounded by precipices and beds of torrents flowing towards the Eurymedon and Cestrus (today Aksu), and requiring bridges to make them passable. In consequence of its excellent laws and political constitution, Selge rose to the rank of the most powerful and populous city of Pisidia, and at one time was able to send an army of 20,000 men into the field. Owing to these circumstances, and the valour of its inhabitants, for which they were regarded as worthy kinsmen of the Spartans, the Selgians were never subject to any foreign power, but remained in the enjoyment of their own freedom and independence. When Alexander the Great passed through Pisidia (333 BC), Selge sent an embassy to him and gained his favour and friendship.[3] At that time they were at war with Termessos.
At the period when Achaeus had made himself master of Western Asia, Selge were at war with Pednelissus, which was besieged by them; and Achaeus, on the invitation of Pednelissus, sent a large force against Selge (218 BC). After a long and vigorous siege, the Selgians, being betrayed and despairing of resisting Achaeus any longer, sent deputies to sue for peace, which was granted to them on the following terms: they agreed to pay immediately 400 talents, to restore the prisoners of Pednelissus, and after a time to pay 300 talents in addition.[4] We now have for a long time no particulars about the history of Selge; in the 5th century AD Zosimus[5] calls it indeed a little town, but it was still strong enough to repel a body of Goths. It is strange that Pliny does not notice Selge, for we know from its coins that it was still a flourishing town in the time of Hadrian; and it is also mentioned in Ptolemy[6] and Hierocles. Independently of wine and oil, the country about Selge was rich in timber, and a variety of trees, among which the storax was much valued from its yielding a strong perfume. Selge was also celebrated for an ointment prepared from the iris root.[7]
The remains of the city consist mainly of parts of the encircling wall and of the acropolis. A few traces have survived of the gymnasium, the stoa, the stadium and the basilica. There are also the outlines of two temples, but the best conserved monument is the theater, restored in the 3rd century AD.
Halfway on the road to Selge from the Pamphylian coastal plain, a well-preserved Roman Bridge crosses the deep Eurymedon valley

The name 'Clingendael' means 'valley in the dunes'. The original part of the Clingendael building was built between 1643 and 1660 for Philip Doublet, whose family had moved to The Hague from the south of the Netherlands. Several of the Doublets held the office of Treasurer General in the Republic of the Seven United Provinces.
Philip's wife was the sister of the celebrated poet and statesman, Constantijn Huygens, and Philip’s son married one of Huygens’ daughters, Suzanna. The architecture of the original part of Clingendael shares some of the features of the Huygens’s country house in Voorburg, Hofwijck.
In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Clingendael belonged to the Van Brienens, a prominent family of merchants and bankers. During the period of French rule in the Netherlands, Willem Joseph van Brienen was appointed Mayor of Amsterdam and elevated by Napoleon to 'Baron de l’Empire'.
The last of the Van Brienens in the male line, Arnout, built a racecourse for his guests at Clingendael; it has since been moved to nearby Duindigt. Arnout’s unmarried daughter Marguérite, known as Lady Daisy, laid out Clingendael’s fine Japanese garden.
During the Second World War, the house was occupied by the Nazi Reich’s Commissioner for the Occupied Netherlands, Arthur Seyss-Inquart, and his family.
In 1954, Clingendael became the property of the municipality of The Hague, which it remains today. Since 1983, the Clingendael Institute (the Netherlands Institute of International Relations) has been located in Huys Clingendael.

Arquitectura

"...on the floor of his room."
Besides attending a class today and writing reports, I spent the afternoon at a friend's house. We talked a lot and she put on some Eddie Izzard. It was fun. :)
I've been tagged. By Trixiepix. And just when I thought I'd wrap up the day and lay my thoughts to sleep... :)
Here we go:
#01 I (used to) change interests on a daily basis, so keeping up with 365 is sometimes a real pain the butt, but I'm determined to stick to, to prove myself I can go through with something - not just drop the idea before I've REALLY given it a go.
#02 I'm a pervert, I'm a poet, I'm a romantic soul.
I really like weird (and I do mean weird, Necrophilia variations is right up my alley) books and movies and music.
#03 When going out for a drink, I usually drink coffee, or during the winter, black tea, vanilla flavoured.
#04 I adore chocolate. The kind with 50 or more percent of cocoa. The bitterness tastes so sweet to me. :) Also, I like chocolate with chili peppers.
#05 Like Trixiepics, I get a kick out of organizing things. On my computer. Into folders and zip files and partitions and so on and so forth...
#06 I like to look at people. Not in a voyeur kind of way, I just like to look at people when I walk past them, to see their faces, to see what they're wearing, how fast they are walking. It interests me. :)
#07 I (used to) usually give up, if the results were not perfect the first time. I had to learn to deal with mistakes.
#08 REMOVED
#09 The first time I did a snow angel was a couple of days ago.
#10 I adore the feeling of fresh, clean hands. I just love it. It feels wonderful. :)
#11 My memory is like swiss cheese, but without the cheese. This is one of the reasons I began 365. To have something to remember ALL of the days by.
#12 I'd like to improve my photos, but lately I don't take enough time to produce results I'd be really proud of. Shame on me.
#13 Lately most of what I wear is black. Last year I was sort of getting into really coloured stuff, but this year I mostly go for black. (Except this one outfit I wear at home - yellow sweatshirt and red pants.)
#14 I thought for sure I wouldn't get tagged. :)
#15 I really like the 80's Yugoslavian punk/new wave scene. There's something about that era that I find so alluring I can't even say. The music, the rebel attitude. (Those days, there actually was something to rebel about. Nowadays, you can do almost whatever you like, so being a rebel these days is pretty much pointless.)
#16 I don't like sports. I don't like to do them. I don't like to watch. I was always absolutely horrible at team sports. The only exception is running. I like that, because sometimes that's when I'm most alone and have all my thoughts to myself.
Done! Woo-hoo! :)
That was a lot of text. Probably the longest description I'll ever write. :)
This was day fifty-seven.

▶ RECIPE
● INGREDIENTS
☞ 2 pounds large Yukon Gold potatoes
☞ 2 TBSP malt vinegar
☞ 1/3 cup vegetable stock or potato-cooking water
☞ 1 cup vegan mayonnaise (such as non-soy Just Mayo)
● EXTRAS
☞ 2/3 cup finely chopped onion
☞ 1/2 cup finely chopped celery
☞ 3 small radishes, roughly chopped
☞ 3 TBSP finely chopped dill pickle
☞ 3 TBSP chopped fresh scallions
☞ 1 TBSP capers
☞ 1 tsp ground white pepper
☞ 1 tsp ground mustard
☞ 1 tsp turmeric
☞ 1 dash Liquid Smoke
☞ 1 dash smoked paprika
☞ Kosher salt, to taste
● GARNISH
☞ Crisp whole red-leaf lettuce leaves
☞ Thinly sliced radishes
☞ Chopped scallion greens
● PROCEDURE
1) Peel the potatoes and slice each one lengthwise in half, or in quarters if very large; then cut crosswise into half-round or quarter-round slices, about 1/2 inch thick.
2) Put the slices in a saucepan with water just to cover and 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt per quart of water. Bring water to a boil, and reduce to a simmer, uncovered. Cook the potatoes for 5 to 6 minutes, checking with a fork for cooked through, but still firm. Check frequently. DO NOT OVERCOOK.
3) Immediately remove from heat and drain into a colander, but save a cup of the cooking liquid for dressing the potatoes.
4) Add the malt vinegar to 1/3 cup of vegetable stock or the reserved potato water. Transfer the potatoes to a mixing bowl. Drizzle the vinegar/stock over the potato pieces, turning them gently to distribute evenly. Let sit 10 minutes to absorb the liquid.
5) Add potatoes to colander. Strain out any remaining liquid.
6) Return to mixing bowl. Add the onion, celery, pickle, scallions (reserving some for the garnish), capers, Liquid Smoke, and spices (minus the paprika and salt). Toss. Top with 2/3 cup of mayonnaise and, with a large rubber spatula, gently fold everything together until well blended. Taste the salad and add more salt, pepper, mayonnaise, or vinegar/stock as needed.
7) Cover the salad and set aside in the refrigerator for at least an hour or so before serving. If it is refrigerated longer, let it come back to room temperature before serving.
8) To serve, line a bowl or a platter with red-leaf lettuce, and mound the salad on top. Decorate at the last moment with radish slices, chopped scallion greens, and a couple of dashes of smoked paprika.

I took this shot of the Manhattan Skyline from Liberty Island, New York City, in October 2004 with my first digital camera, a Fuji MX. Wish I'd had my Nikon D80 back then...but of course it didn't exisit at the time :-)
INFORMATION ON MANHATTAN ISLAND:
Manhattan is an island borough of New York City, New York, USA, coterminous with New York County. With a 2006 population of 1,611,581[1] living in a land area of 22.96 square miles (59.47 km²), it is the most densely populated county in the United States at 66,940 residents per square mile (25,846/km²). It is also the second wealthiest county in the United States. The borough consists of Manhattan Island, Roosevelt Island, Randalls Island, almost 1/10th of Ellis Island, the above-water portion of Liberty Island, several much smaller islands, and a small section on the mainland of New York State adjacent to the Bronx.
Manhattan is a major commercial, financial, and cultural center of the United States, and to some extent, the world. Most major radio, television, and telecommunications companies in the United States are based here, as well as many news, magazine, book, and other media publishers. Manhattan has many famous landmarks, tourist attractions, museums, and universities. It is also home to the headquarters of the United Nations. Manhattan has the largest central business district in the United States, is the site of both the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, and is the home to the largest number of corporate headquarters in the nation. It is indisputably the center of New York City and the New York metropolitan region, holding the seat of city government, and the largest fraction of employment, business, and recreational activities.
The name Manhattan derives from the word Manna-hata, as written in the 1609 logbook of Robert Juet, an officer on Henry Hudson's yacht Halve Maen (Half Moon). A 1610 map depicts the name Manahata twice, on both the west and east sides of the Mauritius River (later named the Hudson River). The word "Manhattan" has been translated as "island of many hills" from the Lenape language. The Encyclopedia of New York City offers other derivations, including from the Munsee dialect of Lenape: manahachtanienk ("place of general inebriation"), manahatouh ("place where timber is procured for bows and arrows"), or menatay ("island").
According to 2007 U.S. Census Bureau estimates, there were 1,620,867 people residing in Manhattan on July 1, 2007. As of the 2000 Census, the population density of New York County was 66,940.1/sq mi (25,849.9/km²), the highest population density of any county in the United States. If the 2007 census estimates are accurate, then the population density now exceeds 70,595 people per square mile. In 1910, at the height of European immigration to New York, Manhattan's population density reached a peak of 120,250.299/sq mi (46,428.9/km²). There were 798,144 housing units in 2000 at an average density of 34,756.7/sq mi (13,421.8/km²). Only 20.3% of Manhattan residents lived in owner-occupied housing, the second-lowest rate of all counties in the nation, behind The Bronx.

The Madison Range is a mountain range located in the Rocky Mountains of Montana and Idaho. The range was named in honor of future President of the United States, then U.S. Secretary of State James Madison by Meriwether Lewis as the Lewis and Clark Expedition travelled through Montana in 1805. The range extends 80 miles from West Yellowstone, Montana to Bozeman, Montana and is flanked by the Madison River on the west and the Gallatin River to the east. The highest point in the range is Hilgard Peak at 11,316 ft, a remote peak that wasn't climbed until 1948. The Madison Range is the westernmost section of what is collectively referred to as the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Most of the range lies within Beaverhead-Deerlodge and Gallatin National Forests. A small portion of the range has been further protected with the creation of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness. The region has grizzly and black bears and at least one pack of wolves. Most other larger mammal species native to the region continue to exist in the range. Not far to the south of Hilgard Peak, lies Quake Lake, which was created after the 1959 Yellowstone earthquake, a 7.5 magnitude earthquake, caused a huge landslide which dammed the Madison River.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madison_Range
Settlement of the Madison Valley followed on the heels of the Gold Rush to Alder Gulch in the mid-1860s. Homesteaders grazed their livestock in the lush meadows of the valley and surrounding mountains, raising beef and mutton to feed the miners.
Today, in addition to meat production, these ranches serve another important ecological role-maintaining pen space and a place for wildlife to prosper.
Thousands of elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, antelope, and other smaller animals live, eat, and migrate through the valley. While public lands of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest provide protected habitat in the mountains surrounding the valley, ranch lands of the valley bottom provide essential food, security, and freedom of movement for many animals, particularly in winter.
One of the greatest threats to wildlife is the loss of this critical habitat to human encroachment. As ranches are subdivided, the open space and abundant food supply these area ranches provide are lost.
The locals hope you enjoy the spectacular scenery of the Madison Valley, and trust you will also appreciate the ecological relationship between ranches and wildlife habitat.

First day back at school, I didnt have a class till 2, so I decided to take pictures with my friend Jesse. We Went inside this what appears to be small church from the outside, but is actually really big on the inside. It was really nice inside, took this quickly and then left cause they were getting ready to lock the doors. I shall return!
Yesterday my sister and I visited the Powell Volvo dealer in Scottsdale, Arizona. They were making some incredible good deals on these great cars and my sister bought one (a great V50 station-wagon). While she worked out the details with the dealer, I walked around and took photos of the many Volvos on the lot. You wouldn't know there was an economic recession going on in Scottsdale, Arizona, for this Volvo dealership was doing great and had many customers (the salesman told me Volvo is owned by Ford now).
Ever since I lived in Sweden, I've loved Volvo cars. These new ones are super! I especially like the body-style and look of the C30 coupe (the fast spiffy car used in the popular film "Twilight", driven by Edward the teenage vampire). Above is a photo of the tail light of one of the C30 Volvos on display, pretty cool!
INFORMATION ON VOLVO CARS:
Volvo Cars, or Volvo Personvagnar AB, is a Swedish automobile manufacturer founded in 1927 in the city of Gothenburg, Sweden, and currently owned by Ford Motor Company. The name Volvo, Latin for "I roll" (or "I drive" in a modern sense, was thought to be a good trademark for a ball bearing as well as for an automobile.
Volvo was originally formed as a subsidiary company to the ball bearing maker SKF. It was not until 1935 when Volvo AB was introduced on the Swedish stock exchange that SKF sold most of the shares in the company. Volvo Cars was owned by AB Volvo until 1999, when it was acquired by the Ford Motor Company as part of its Premier Automotive Group.
Volvo produces models ranging from SUVs, wagons, and sedans to compact executive sedans and coupes. With 2,500 dealerships worldwide in 100 markets; 60 percent of sales come from Europe, 30 percent from North America, and the other 10 percent is from the rest of the world. Volvo cars have always evoked a reputation for solidity and reliability.[
Volvo's market share is shrinking in the North American market. However, Volvo increased its market share in new markets such as Russia, China and India. Specifically, Volvo expected sales in Russia to double and exceed 20,000 units by the end of 2007, making Russia one of the ten biggest markets for the company. Volvo already boasts the leading position in Russia's luxury car segment.
Older models were often compared to tractors, partly because Volvo AB was and still is a manufacturer of heavy equipment, earlier Bolinder-Munktell, now Volvo Construction Equipment. Considered by some to be slow and heavy, they earned the distinction "brick" as a term of endearment for the classic, block-shaped Volvo, with the more powerful turbo charged variants known as "turbobricks". More recent models have moved away from the boxy styles favored in the 1970s and 1980s and built a reputation for sporting performance, but not before the phenomenal success of factory-supported Volvo 240 turbos winning both the 1985 European Touring Car Championship (ETC) and 1986 Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC).

In our backyard we have tangerine and grapefruit trees and this winter we are fortunate to have a bounty of fresh citrus to pick and eat whenever we please. These tangerines are just so sweet and delicious! I admit I've sat down and eaten 3 or 4 at a time!
I took this photo with a flash at twilight after a good rain.
INFORMATION ON THE TANGERINE:
The tangerine (Citrus × tangerina) is an orange- or red-coloured citrus fruit. It is a variety of the Mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata). Tangerines are smaller than most oranges, and the skin of some varieties will peel off more easily. The taste is often less sour, or tart, than that of an orange.
Good quality tangerines will be firm to slightly soft, heavy for their size, and pebbly-skinned with no deep grooves, as well as orange in color. Peak tangerine season is short, lasting from November to January in the Northern Hemisphere.
The Honey tangerine, originally called a murcott, is very sweet, as its name suggests. Other popular kinds include the sunburst tangerines and Fairchild tangerines. One of the oldest and most popular varieties is the Dancy tangerine, but it is no longer widely grown. The Dancy was known as the zipper-skin tangerine, and also as the kid-glove orange, for its loose, pliable peel. Its peak season is December, so children would often receive one in their Christmas stockings. For this reason it is commonly known as known a 'Christmas Orange'.
Tangerines are most commonly peeled and eaten out of hand. The fresh fruit is also used in salads, desserts and main dishes. Fresh tangerine juice and frozen juice concentrate are commonly available in the United States. Tangerines are a good source of vitamin C, folate and beta-carotene. They also contain some potassium, magnesium and vitamins B1, B2 & B3.
Historically, the name tangerine comes from Tangier, Morocco, a port from which the first tangerines were shipped to Europe. The adjective tangerine, from Tangier or Tanger, was first recorded as an English word in 1710.

Happy New Year!
I hope you're all well, and I hope this coming year is good to you.
Jan 1 2016 Swim-a-Month Club (video)
(I jumped in first and swam 2/3 of the way across while everyone else was getting undressed, before the camera could catch me. My yellow swim cap is visible as a dot far out in the water when Eric jumps in at around the 1-minute mark.)
Thanks to my brother Corey: if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have jumped in 2 years ago and started all this very wonderful nonsense.
I was away for 2 months in the summer (swimming in all 5 Great Lakes*) and although I was back to swim in the Gorge with my friends and neighbours on the last day of September, I missed August. So Janet, who started last February, was the first of us to complete 12 months in a row!
As usual, we stuffed ourselves after our swim with freshly baked bread, leek-and-potato soup, hot spiced apple juice, 2 kinds of pie (cherry & pecan), ice cream (if you can imagine!), cheese, chocolate, local preserves, and other goodies & warming beverages. If you come on Valentine's Day, make sure you bring a cup and a spoon! Special thanks to Franco for the loan of his fire pit: invaluable.
(Videos from the November and December meetings of the Swim-a-Month Club.)

According to Wikipedia:
Postman's Park is a small green memorial garden in the City of London. It is located between King Edward Street, Little Britain and Angel Street. It was created in 1880 from the churchyards of St Leonard, Foster Lane and St Botolph-without-Aldersgate together with the graveyard of Christ Church Greyfriars. St Leonard's had been a ruin since the Great Fire and was probably demolished at the time of the creation of the park. St Botolph's is still open and stands at the north east corner of the park. Christ Church was detached from its graveyard and is now a ruin on the other side of King Edward Street.
The park was the idea of the painter George Frederick Watts who wanted to celebrate people who may otherwise have been forgotten. Its name celebrates the postmen who work in the principal London post office and the former sorting office in King Edward Street.
A wall in the park has 34 hand-painted tiles paying tribute to everyday people who sacrificed their lives helping others. The hand-lettered tiles were made by Royal Doulton.
The park features in the film Closer - Natalie Portman's character takes her pseudonym 'Alice Ayres' from one of the painted tiles, as Jude Law's character discovers at the end of the film.

Part of a self-assigned series for my wife's upcoming book, "Dog O'My Heart" - Guinness and Robbie were in Monrovia, California at the time. Robbie is the son of some dear friends; Guiness is their bear-chasing rottweiler. We shot this in the shade of a porch - but with a 2PM afternoon sun - trying to beat a deadline for an evening Amtrak train back to Texas.
Camera: Hasslebad, 150mm lens
Film: Fujichrome 100, 120mm.
Scanned on a Nikon 9000 Coolscan.
Strobist data: Norman 4K pak, 1 head at 2K, through a single 72" Chimera soft box at left + reflector at right + used the sun light & balanced it for hairlight. Exposure was probably around 1/125 @ f/16 or so...verified with Polaroid PN55 Polapak film.
The pool looked so wonderful that the second Nalu entered the pool deck she dove in. It's a common, almost daily occurrence so I just let her play awhile. It was my chance to introduce her to her new water toy, Mr. Flappy. She absolutely loves him. We may just have to use him when the new Southeast FL Dock Dogs club has its Grand Opening June 19th in Dania beach. Nalu is excited over the news of a club forming only an hour away! Before the nearest clubs were 2 1/2 & 4 hours away.
In this picture you can see something she loves to do. When I get her out I always go straight for her toy, put it away and take her to the dog tub outside for a quick bath to get the chlorine out. Well when she suspects I'm getting ready to kick her out she'll start playing on the steps. She pushes the toy down with her feet until she has it pinned on the second step, she then dunks her head under to retrieve it. She also likes to take the toy to the jet right by the steps and lets the jet take the toy under and past her. She quickly turn pushes off the wall and dunks under to get it. Another of her quarks is if I leave her by herself while I'm cleaning the kitchen or working by the sliding glass door leading out to the pool deck (so I can see her) she'll actually throws the toy in herself and launches into the pool to retrieve it. I don't think I've ever seen a dog who loves the pool more, she would live in there if I let her. She may be 7 but I think she needs a turn in the field, moms fault of course!

Jeff Buckley - Dream Brother from the album Grace
This song sends shivers down my back!!!
Play It Loud!!
There is a child sleeping near his twin
The pictures go wild in a rush of wind
That dark angel he is shuffling in
Watching over them with his black feather wings unfurled
The love you lost with her skin so fair
Is free with the wind in her butterscotch hair
Her green eyes blew goodbyes
With her head in her hands
and your kiss on the lips of another
Dream Brother with your tears scattered round the world.
Don't be like the one who made me so old
Don't be like the one who left behind his name
'Cause they're waiting for you like I waited for mine
And nobody ever came...
Don't be like the one who made me so old
Don't be like the one who left behind his name
'Cause they're waiting for you like I waited for mine
And nobody ever came...
Don't be like the one who made me so old
Don't be like the one who left behind his name
'Cause they're waiting for you like I waited for mine
Nobody ever came
Nobody ever...
I feel afraid and I call your name
I love your voice and your dance insane
I hear your words and I know your pain
With your head in your hands and her kiss on the lips of another
Your eyes to the ground and the world spinning round forever
Asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over
Asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over
Asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over
Ah do you meet the one I love
and smell the one who loves you
Dream brother, dream brother, dream, dream
dream asleep in the sand with the ocean washing over

pedo guy
An abbreviation of the word torpedo, pedo is a term of endearment often used by business magnates, investors and engineers, for a fast and excellent swimmer or diver. Sometimes, divers in Thailand who rescue young soccer teams from caves believe it means pedophile, but that's not the case.
PERSON 1: “Sorry pedo guy, you really did ask for it.”
PERSON 2: "Did you just call me a pedophile?"
PERSON 1: No, it's short for torpedo. You swim really fast."
PERSON 2: "Oh my bad. And thank you. You are a true gentleman."
PERSON 1: "And you, sir, are a true pedo."

Pedo guy
Common insult used in South Africa in 1970s and 1980s. It is synonymous with “creepy old man” and is used to insult a person’s appearance and demeanor. Usually used in a very aristocratic way. As of lately, however, has become rare in spoken English due to increased avareness of term “pedophilia” among younger generation and millennials.
Other popular examples of psychological disorders being used as an insult include words “idiot”, “downs” and others.

Pedo guy
(noun) - Traditional South African insult, circa 1930's, originally aimed at people too poor to own a motor vehicle, and so were forced to remain as pedestrians.
More modern usage is by middle-class westerners who are so entrenched in their usage of vehicles with internal combustion engines, that they shun or eschew the development of electric vehicles (see also icing). i.e. they would rather choose to walk, than to drive an electric vehicle, even if it gives the appearance that they could be too poor to own a motor vehicle.
e.g. "I'd rather be a pedo guy than to buy a Nissan Leaf!"

shout it out
i can't hold back no more
i let it out
all these feelings that were
trapped inside
i was frozen evertime
i looked in your eyes
clear my head
from all the cluttered things
i should've said
that wasn't me
no i can't live like that
I'm waking up and there is no
looking back
(chorus)
Every little tear
i was scared to cry
everyting i feared
but i kept inside
i don't wanna hold
it back one more day
oh wash it away
every tiny thought clouding
up my head
every single word that
i never said
i refuse to feel ashamed
let it rain
let it rain
clear the sky
i start to breathe again
no-thing to hide
let you through to who
i am inside
every layer
'til you get underneath my skin
let you in, let you in
(chorus)
every little tear
i was scared to cry
everything i feard
but i kept inside
i dont wanna hold it back
one more day
oh was it away
every tiny thought
clouding up my head
every single word that

In the kindness of human creatures. Last friday I ordered a babushka brooch at www.maanisch.nl. I know her blog for like 5 years now, and I've been a fan of her creations eversince. She makes great stuff for cats at www.ploesiepoesie.nl (
hibernation right now) but also things for girly girls like me :) And I totally fell in love with the babushka's! So I sent her an email, that I wanted to buy one, and that Emiel works sometimes at her boyfriend's advertising agency, that he reconized her photo on her blog. She sent me an nice mail back, she saw my photos and she liked them, yay!
So yesterday she said she went to the postoffice to send the brooch. I was excited all day! And at 7 the parcel finally arived with a real package! I was like:WTF?! I only ordered 1 brooch! So I opened the package and inside were all kind of thingies me like!!!!!! Cute Cat buttons, magnets, postcards you call it!! I danced arround! WOW!!!! There was also a toy for Sterre and Koika, and they totally love it!
She wrote me a sweet card that "she wanted to support me because I make such beautiful photos" I started crying, because it warmed my heart. It made my day so light. Thanks woman!
More almost dead-on Functionalism by Aalto. The source, the museum suggests, is Mies's apartments at the Weissenhofsiedlung.. That seems reasonable, but if so, it just points out again the ways in which Aalto can't quite manage to be a typical Modernist. Not to say that Mies's facade is the most radical thing I've ever seen; I mean, Mies is sort of my go-to architect for Classically inflected modernism! But Aalto's facade here, again, dodges away at the last second: precast concrete structural units, sure, innovative ideas about mechanical services, yup, ribbon window.....ehh, sort of.
Check it out - just go to the museum link and pull up the elevation drawing. Look at how the gaps between the windows, which presumably do have some correspondence to interior need, work to set up another "ghost colonnade." And, unlike the Agricultural Cooperative (which had more traditional details), this colonnade is capped by a cornice, or at least a couple of attic stories, giving this a real base-middle-top organization. And, just as he did in the Aira flats and the Workers' Club, Aalto uses the gutters to break the facade down into manageable units. (They're not shown in the elevation drawing, but the different condition at the ground floor is apparent, and the photo here completes the picture.)
I'd like to stress that these "transitional" projects aren't just interesting to the degree that they're transitional: there are some clever design strategies employed here, things any architect might perhaps learn from. But within Aalto's biography, they're also crucial to having any understanding of the more famous work that follows. Remember, by the time of Aalto's celebrated 1930s work, he had been building for over a decade. This "minor" project was probably a pretty big deal for the office at the time. He clearly hadn't yet fully found his voice, as evidenced by the restless wanderings of his style, but he was working, he was designing, and he was developing mental habits. While ten years isn't so long in the grand scheme of an architect's career, I just imagine all the hours at the drafting table, all the ink, all the dust, all the painstaking efforts to get the proportions to work out. Would his fingers just forget how to work that way? Or would they end up doing some of it on their own, whatever else he was trying to do? Neither the Classical nor the Modern would ever completely disappear in Aalto's work, no matter how "organic" and "Finnish" it became.
1873 - Working in the mines came with big risk. There was a good chance of poisonous gasses or a collapse. After an accident remaining relatives often had no income at all. The miners had to leave there belongings and especially those of more value behind for relatives to claim in case of an accident.
Zeche H had a room where miners changed into their work clothes and put all there belongings in the steal baskets you see in the photo. A basket a person, clothes in the basket, watches and bracelets at curly stick-outs and rings and earrings at the top. He had to raise the basket before going underground. This so they knew who was underground.
More then a century later Zeche H closes it's doors. Most of the buildings are gone and yet to be torn down is this beautiful room with its thousands of baskets (up to 3382 or so).

Independence Day celebrations held in Christchurch, July 4 2011.
From DipNote:
blogs.state.gov/index.php/site/entry/a_christchurch_fourth
A Christchurch Fourth
U.S. Embassy Wellington celebrated a special Fourth of July in Christchurch, where Ambassador David Huebner honored seven New Zealanders for the courage and commitment they had shown helping evacuate a large American delegation in the immediate aftermath of the devastating February 22 earthquake.
About 150 guests attended the ceremony, designed to show solidarity with the struggling city and to signal that Christchurch is open for business. Minister of Conservation Kate Wilkinson thanked Ambassador Huebner for hosting the event and giving Cantabrians a semblance of normality by having something to celebrate. The event was hosted in the northwest of the city in one of the few locations still able to cater to a larger party.
A large delegation of U.S. government leaders, businesspeople, and academics was in Christchurch for the U.S.-New Zealand Partnership Forum on February 22, 2011. The delegation was spread throughout the city when the earthquake struck. In the chaotic aftermath it became imperative to locate, gather, and evacuate the delegation -- something that would have been simply impossible without the dedicated courage of many, many people.
"The stoic professionalism of so many in the face of so much ensured that our American visitors were superbly looked after that day," Ambassador Huebner said.
"It was for that reason, and to acknowledge that Christchurch is still functional and open for business, that we decided to hold an Independence Day ceremony in Christchurch," Ambassador Huebner said. "We wanted not only to thank everyone involved that day, but to underscore the long and deep friendship between the United States and the people of New Zealand in general and Christchurch in particular."
Canterbury has suffered thousands of aftershocks in recent months and two large ones in mid-June that further rattled the nerves of its citizens and damaged many more buildings.
Honored by the Ambassador were bus drivers who stuck with their vehicles and transported Americans back to safety at the U.S. Antarctic Center, members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force who assisted with the evacuations, and a local senior constable from the New Zealand Police who remained with U.S. Embassy staff who performed American Citizen services in the week after the earthquake.
The Very Rev. Peter Beck, dean of the now-crumbled Christ Church Cathedral, thanked Ambassador Huebner for what he described as a "very moving" event. He pointed out that the last formal service at the Cathedral, the iconic heart of the city, had been on the evening before the opening of the U.S.-New Zealand Partnership, which many members of both delegations attended.
Cited for their "unwavering courage and commitment" with the American Ambassador's Exemplary Service award were: Simon McKenzie, driver, Leopard Coach; John Goldie, driver, VIP Transport, Visits and Ceremonial Office; Heather Caspersen, driver, VIP Transport, Visits and Ceremonial Office; Flight Lieutenant Vaughn Jones, RNZAF; Warrant Officer Warren Tyndall, RNZAF; Squadron Leader Andy Scott, RNZAF; and Senior Constable Thomas "Blue" Young, New Zealand Police.

ENGLISH
An hórreo (Spanish) is a granary built in wood (Iberia or Scandinavia) or stone (Iberia), raised from the ground by pillars ("pegollos", in Asturian, "esteos", in Galician) ending in flat stones or "mueles" or "tornarratas", to avoid the access of rodents. Ventilation is allowed by the grooves in its walls. In some areas, hórreos are known as hórreu, horru (Asturian), horriu (Leonese), hórreo, paneira, canastro, piorno (Galician), espigueiro, canastro, eira (Portuguese), stabbur (Norwegian), härbre or more precisely stolphärbre or stolpbod (Swedish)
Hórreos are mainly found in Northwest Spain (though there are also in other Northern villages). There are two main types of hórreo, rectangular-shaped, the more extended, typical from Galicia and square-shaped from Asturias, León and eastern Galicia. The oldest Spanish document containing an image of an hórreo is the Cantigas de Santa María by Alfonso X "El Sabio" (song CLXXXVII) from XII A.C. In this depiction, three rectangular hórreos of gothic style are illustrated. The longest hórreo in Galicia is located in Carnota, A Coruña and is 35 m long.

CASTELLANO

SELF-PORTRAITR: AN INTERACTIVE EXHIBITION CURATING THE FLICKR.COM
COMMUNITY
June 30 through August 25, 2006
Pace/MacGill Gallery and the School of Visual Arts’ graduate photography department are pleased to present an interactive exhibition of self-portraits drawn from Flickr.com, the online digital photo-sharing network. Flickr’s user base consists of over one million members who share images and image-related information. Two leading forces in the New York art world—-a major photography gallery and a top art school—-have joined together to observe this online conversation of image making.
The mining and showcasing of this material strives to engage and expand a rapidly growing virtual arts community. The exhibition will be accessible to both viewers and contributors alike via the Pace/MacGill website www.pacemacgill.com. Pace/MacGill’s gallery space will house ten computers on which visitors can peruse the pictures gathered from numerous global photographers as they would online. A few monitors will display slideshows of images specifically collected via the gallery website.
The exhibition will not only rely on the Flickr community for content, but will also depend upon the activity of the site’s users for the organization and editing of what is anticipated to be thousands of images from the age-old genre of self-portraiture. Whether the image is taken by a professional photographer overseas or by an amateur experimenting with a camera phone in New York City, each image posted on Flickr and “tagged” as a self-portrait will automatically be filtered and directed into the exhibition.
The Pace/MacGill Flickr interface, created by SVA’s Jeremy Chien and Stephen Jablonsky and programmed by Kelvin Luck, allows users to vote for favorites, track the most viewed image, and create categories. Sorting options or subcategories (self portrait “with mirror” or at “beach,” for example) within the virtual exhibition will enable further definition and refinement.
The work in the exhibition will perpetually expand with the proliferation of users until the popularity of each category aids in its editing. As more images are collected and more users are interacting with the site to make selections, the work will become more discerning and interesting. One can choose the role they wish to assume: curator, artist, etcetera. With every click of the mouse, viewers become participants; the interactive community defines the exhibition. The hope is that the final result will be a 50 print exhibition of images chosen by the community.
The School of Visual Arts is widely recognized as one of the finest art schools in the country for its innovative and experimental program philosophies, its participation in the cultural life of New York City, and its unparalleled faculty comprised of professional artists. The MFA Photography, Video and Related Media department has been a leader in the implementation of photography in the digital world. The exhibition has been assembled by Pace/MacGill Gallery, Jeremy Chien, and Stephen Jablonsky. Chien and Jablonsky are both alumni and faculty members at the School of Visual Arts’ MFA program in Photography, Video and Related Media. UK web developer Kelvin Luck programmed the exhibition software to search, filter and explore Flickr.com.
Gallery summer hours are: Monday-Thursday, 9:30-5:30, and Friday, 9:30-4:00. The gallery will be closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Summer hours begin on June 20 and continue through Labor Day.
