The first P42 to wear Phase VII- Amtrak 174- makes its first trip in Phase VII paint; fresh out of the Beech Grove paint shop, leading train 51 through the long defunct 'Little Englewood' station on the former C&WI.

yasica_electro35, 50asa, fortepan,

the quality of this photo isn't great but it does give an idea of the dress I fell in love with...well love might be a little over the top but get what I mean.

Yes I am stood in the middle of shop having the photo taken! well the changing room was far to small. The shoes were kindly loaned buy the shop to give a better idea of the dress when worn with heels as my flip flops didn't really cut it :-)

I had such a wonderful experience in all the outlets I visited today and it goes to prove that if we look the part we will be accepted.

November 2018

A recent pleasant evening found the kids and I bouncing around Granite City looking for a special motor on Amtrak. We had plenty to watch as the area was crawling with trains. We watched the Amtrak app report the train getting later and later and we found our sunny windows getting smaller and smaller. Eventually, the Texas Eagle flew down Springfield Sub Main 1 approaching WR Tower with a friendly engineer and a cabbage car along for the ride (heading for Heartland Flyer service to OKC I'm sure).

Skylon is a design for a single-stage-to-orbit spaceplane by the British company Reaction Engines Limited (REL), using SABRE, a combined-cycle, air-breathing rocket propulsion system, potentially reusable for 200 flights. In paper studies, the cost per kilogram of payload carried to low Earth orbit in this way is hoped to be reduced from the current £1,108/kg (as of December 2015), including research and development, to around £650/kg, with costs expected to fall much more over time after initial expenditures have amortised. In 2004, the developer estimated the total lifetime cost of the programme to be about $12 billion.

The vehicle design is for a hydrogen-fuelled aircraft that would take off from a purpose-built runway, and accelerate to Mach 5.4 at 26 kilometres (16 mi) altitude using the atmosphere's oxygen before switching the engines to use the internal liquid oxygen (LOX) supply to take it into orbit. Once in orbit it would release its payload (of up to 15 tonnes). The vehicle will be unpiloted, but also be certified to carry passengers. All payloads could be carried in a standardised container compartment. The relatively light vehicle would then re-enter the atmosphere and land on a runway, being protected from the conditions of re-entry by a ceramic composite skin. When on the ground, it would undergo inspection and necessary maintenance. If the design goal is achieved, it should be ready to fly again within two days.

As of 2012, only a small portion of the funding required to develop and build Skylon had been secured. The research and development work on the SABRE engine design is proceeding under a small European Space Agency (ESA) grant. In January 2011, REL submitted a proposal to the British government to request additional funding for the project and in April REL announced that they had secured $350 million of further funding contingent on a test of the engine's precooler technology being successful. Testing of the key technologies was successfully completed in November 2012, allowing Skylon's design to advance to its final phase. On 16 July 2013 the British government pledged £60M to the project: this investment will provide support at a "crucial stage" to allow a full-scale prototype of the SABRE engine to be built.

If all goes to plan, the first ground-based engine tests could happen in 2019, and Skylon could be performing unmanned test flights by 2025. It could carry 15 tonnes of cargo to a 300 km equatorial orbit on each trip, and up to 11 tonnes to the International Space Station, almost 45% more than the capacity of the European Space Agency's ATV vehicle.

This is the first production vehicle and it is used as a testbed to prove the Sklyon concept.

I really enjoyed building this model. It went through multiple re-designs to get the curves and shaping just right. Those of you who play Kerbal Space Program will understand how an SSTO works but if you don't it is an aircraft with rocket engines of some time that is able to climb into orbit to launch satellites then return the entire aircraft to earth to save money.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the visit.

I picked out this lovely dress to try on, it is a size down from my normal and was a bit tight. However I've been fighting the Battle of the Bulge since the end of June, I have lost 2 spare tyres and one to get rid off to reach my optimal weight, a dress for the future. I loved how far this dress fell on me, I'm 6'1 and the length is perfect.

Amtrak #130, one of Amtrak's heritage units painted in its' Phase II livery, is seen running a northbound Northeast Regional towards DC on a bright day.

Amtrak's new Phase VII livery makes its debut on the Empire Builder, with AMTK 311 leading Amtrak 8 through Morton Grove.

I'm really curious if this scheme will be revised at some point to correct the awkward logo positioning.

We seem to be transitioning into the Phase 4 paint era with B32-8WHs 506, 510 and several P40/P42s already painted in this scene at 18th St. in Chicago June 2000.

PHASE TWO: Leica M2 (b. 1963) in need of CLA & TLC

Just got back from local CLA work and recover from 'leicaleather' out of Hong Kong. This is their 'light-brown lizard skin'. The color skopar is not the intended lens I have for this M but it's the only thing I had at the time of taking this photo. Waiting on a Leitz Summarit 50mm 1.5f to arrive and then it will be complete.

Our grandson on the left and his cousin on the right were up to visit us today with our oldest son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. A day at the beach and then fishing on the way home was the on the agenda. We went to Sand Lake Beach here in Plevna Ontario for a few hours as we are trying to stay in the KFLA as much as possible even if the Province is now in Phase Three.

Riding Hood & Bad Wolf - Issue #3 "Shoot the Messenger"*

In the past...

The man thought they were his, an old hookup of his that had consequences. He felt obligated to take them in out of the cold, maybe it was the alcohol messing with his head again. The bitter resentment made him regret taking them in, but nevertheless he raised them anyway. Once the boy said his first word he would become independent, watched the TV in the background through the stairs banister, sneaked into school, listened to phone calls. He even named himself and his little sister...

________________________________________________________________

Riding Hood: "Followed? By who?"

*RH draws his pistols looking at the door. Bad Wolf shrugs smelling the air cautiously as he gets to his paws standing in front of RH who peeks under his armpit at the door. Suddenly a white blur shakes through the it vibrating intensely. RH fires his pistols at the blur only to see it speed away past them.*

Riding Hood: "Oh F me in the A. It's a Spe-"

*Before RH can finish his sentence the figure zooms past RH striking him across his jaw making him stagger back against BW who swipes at the empty air with his huge paw*

Riding Hood: "As I was saying! It's a Speedster."

Bad Wolf: *Growls* "I hate them."

Riding Hood: "Yeah they cheat at cards, trust me."

*The white blur circles them like a tornado speeding around, drawing the oxygen out from their lungs. RH knows this trick though, he nods at BW who has a mutual understanding of what to do. BW holds out his paw and RH fires a round between his claws, the blur slows down ever so slightly avoiding the oversized paw only to be shot in the shoulder by the hidden gun. A bright red patch stains the blur as it comes to a skidding halt against the wall dropping on its hands and knees.*

Riding Hood: "Yeah take that speedy!"

*RH grins under his visor as he aims his pistols at the White costumed figure who groans clutching his shoulder trying to get up. RH's pistols auto-lock onto the target just in case he decides to speed away this time. He's about to shoot until BW holds out his furry arm looking down at RH.*

Bad Wolf: "Wait... that's E-Race. He's a hero."

Riding Hood: "Who cares?! Last time I checked we were villains."

*E-Race quickly gets to his feet, his injury fully healed. RH mutters a curse but sees that E-Race is standing still. RH laughs to himself how easy killing him is going to be but BW steps in front of him gently nudging RH's pistols down. He grits his teeth angrily lowering them down.*

Riding Hood: "What?!"

Bad Wolf: "I don't think he wants a fight."

E-Race: "You're friend is right, I've come to warn you both. A source of mine is saying that a team called the 'Convicted 5' are after you, they want blood. Mainly Riding Hood's."

*RH snorts and rolls his eyes under his visor*

Riding Hood: "Tell them to get in line."

E-Race: "These guys are serious though. All psycho's and sociopaths. It would be wise if you just surrendered and came to A.N.G.E.L. to face punishment and avoid them."

*BW looks down at RH meeting his gaze, silently agreeing to surrender, RH cocks his head gripping his pistols*

Riding Hood: "Seriously?! No. We've handled worse. Sorry hero, why not just try and take us in yourself?"

E-Race: "That's what worries me. All heroes have been told not to engage with you both if seen, just to report back about the location."

Bad Wolf: "Which is what you have already done."

Riding Hood: "And are now saying this to stall us."

*E-Race's eyes widen through his mask at how fast they both caught on. RH aims his pistols at E-Race who phase shifts through the wall he's pressed against and winks leaving them both alone. RH fires his guns at the wall in a rage.*

Riding Hood: "Son of a bi-"

Bad Wolf: "RH, language."

Riding Hood: "I was going to say biscuit, jeez!"

*Bad Wolf sniffs the air raising his head and snarls pouncing at RH, he uses his whole body to shield him as the door suddenly flies off its hinges smashing off BW's shoulder. He turns his head growling and stands helping RH gets to his feet. They both look at the doorless entrance, a white bunny suited figure stands there swinging his sledgehammer around giggling crazily*

Riding Hood: "Can nobody use doors?!"

Washington Monument

The Washington Monument is an obelisk on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., built to commemorate George Washington, a Founding Father of the United States, victorious commander-in-chief of the Continental Army from 1775 to 1783 in the American Revolutionary War, and the first President of the United States from 1789 to 1797. Standing east of the Reflecting Pool and the Lincoln Memorial,[2] the monument is made of bluestone gneiss for the foundation and of granite for the construction.[3] The outside facing consists, due to the interrupted building process, of three different kinds of white marble:[4] in the lower third, marble from Baltimore County, Maryland, followed by a narrow zone of marble from Sheffield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, and, in the upper part, the so-called Cockeysville Marble. Both "Maryland Marbles" came from the "lost” Irish Quarry Town of "New Texas".[5] It is both the world's tallest predominantly stone structure and the world's tallest obelisk,[A] standing 554 feet 7+11/32 inches (169.046 m) tall, according to U.S. National Geodetic Survey measurements in 2013–2014.[B] It is the tallest monumental column in the world if all are measured above their pedestrian entrances.[A] It was the world's tallest structure between 1884 and 1889, after which it was overtaken by the Eiffel Tower, in Paris. Previously, the tallest structures were Lincoln Cathedral (1311–1548; 525 ft/160 m) and Cologne Cathedral (1880–1884; 515 ft/157 m).

Construction of the presidential memorial began in 1848. The construction was suspended from 1854 to 1877 due to funding challenges, a struggle for control over the Washington National Monument Society, and the American Civil War. The stone structure was completed in 1884, and the internal ironwork, the knoll, and installation of memorial stones was completed in 1888. A difference in shading of the marble, visible about 150 feet (46 m) or 27% up, shows where construction was halted and later resumed with marble from a different source. The original design was by Robert Mills from South Carolina, but construction omitted his proposed colonnade for lack of funds, and construction proceeded instead with a bare obelisk. The cornerstone was laid on July 4, 1848; the first stone was laid atop the unfinished stump on August 7, 1880; the capstone was set on December 6, 1884; the completed monument was dedicated on February 21, 1885;[16] it opened on October 9, 1888.

The Washington Monument is a hollow Egyptian-style stone obelisk with a 500-foot-tall (152.4 m) column surmounted by a 55-foot-tall (16.8 m) pyramidion. Its walls are 15 feet (4.6 m) thick at its base and 1+1/2 feet (0.46 m) thick at their top. The marble pyramidion's walls are 7 inches (18 cm) thick, supported by six arches: two between opposite walls, which cross at the center of the pyramidion, and four smaller arches in the corners. The top of the pyramidion is a large, marble capstone with a small aluminum pyramid at its apex, with inscriptions on all four sides. The bottom 150 feet (45.7 m) of the walls, built during the first phase from 1848 to 1854, are composed of a pile of bluestone gneiss rubble stones (not finished stones) held together by a large amount of mortar with a facade of semi-finished marble stones about 1+1/4 feet (0.4 m) thick. The upper 350 feet (106.7 m) of the walls, built in the second phase, 1880–1884, are of finished marble surface stones, half of which project into the walls, partly backed by finished granite stones.[17]

The interior is occupied by iron stairs that spiral up the walls, with an elevator in the center, each supported by four iron columns, which do not support the stone structure. The stairs are in fifty sections, most on the north and south walls, with many long landings stretching between them along the east and west walls. These landings allowed many inscribed memorial stones of various materials and sizes to be easily viewed while the stairs were accessible (until 1976), plus one memorial stone between stairs that is difficult to view. The pyramidion has eight observation windows, two per side, and eight red aircraft warning lights, two per side. Two aluminum lightning rods, connected by the elevator support columns to groundwater, protect the monument. The monument's present foundation is 37 feet (11.3 m) thick, consisting of half of its original bluestone gneiss rubble encased in concrete. At the northeast corner of the foundation, 21 feet (6.4 m) below ground, is the marble cornerstone, including a zinc case filled with memorabilia.[17] Fifty American flags fly on a large circle of poles centered on the monument.[18] In 2001, a temporary screening facility was added to the entrance to prevent a terrorist attack.[19] A Virginia-centered earthquake in 2011 slightly damaged the monument, and it was closed until 2014.[20] The monument was closed for elevator repairs, security upgrades, and mitigation of soil contamination in August 2016 before reopening again fully in September 2019.
