A busy period for Direct Rail Services at the beginning of November 2022 - with RHTT operations adding to their routine work - brought more of their 100-mph bi-mode locos onto the more sedate Cumbrian coastline working nuclear flask trains.
Due to its status as a passing place on the single line between Sellafield and Whitehaven, St Bees frequently sees up and down trains pass each other, as here on 2 November when no fewer than four class 88s would stand in the station while tokens were exchanged. Here 88010 “Aurora” stands ahead of 88001 “Revolution” and four FNAS making up 6M23, the 1317 Hunterston Sellafield. The lights of 88002 “Prometheus” herald the approach of 6C46, the 1902 Sellafield – Carlisle Kingmoor, consisting of four more FNAs and second locomotive 88009 “Diana”.
Nice to see that 88010 has its name back! though, why it didn't get its proper plates is something of a mystery.
It's not cool and it's not a livery
60063 working the 6B13 Robeston Sidings – Westerleigh Murco oil tanks train passes Bishton level crossing, near Magor, South Wales. I was keen to get this shot before the electrification poles ruin the POV forever.
The Bishton gate box, which controls the level crossing, is a GWR box of GW12a design and dates back to 1941. It has 3 lever frames to control the crossing. There is an underpass underneath the main line which cars can fit under. Hence, only vans, minibuses and horseboxes cross the line when the gates need to be opened. It must be an incredibly boring job for the operator as little traffic crosses the line.
Bishton gate box (formerly West signal box) is scheduled to close in 2019 when the area will be controlled from the South Wales Regional Operations Centre at Cardiff. This will see the abolition of the last set of wheel-operated gates on the former Western Region.
Took a slight diversion via Humble Lane on my way to the GCR yesterday as as 66186 passed with a stone train
Would you come back?
I can't believe it is the end of August already. Each Summer seems to pass by faster than the one before. Hell, each year seems to pass by faster than the one before. Even on flickr, what seems like a few days between visits can be a few weeks.
Time is a funny thing. Yellow Cadillacs are my finned, chrome-laden time machines. They take me back to a particular Summer in 1969 with memories of my Grandmother's old 1962 Sedan DeVille.
In a low-rumbling-V8, dual-pitched-horn, beat of the heart they transport me forward to the Summer of 2008 and this song by the Shackletons.
And here I am, waxing poetic, nearing the end of Summer of 2011...

Passing Spotswood UGL, where the Pacific National locos recieve work is NR47,NR99,AN8 working 4PM4 steel train on 13-5-2018
BR Type 4 Class 46 46023 was recorded passing Dudley Freightliner Terminal with an unidentified freight, but details of the working are provided in the comments, below.
D160 (46023) was a product of Derby Works and entered service in March 1962. It was withdrawn in October 1984.
Opened in November 1967 on the site of the former Castle goods depot this was the first such terminal to be opended in the West Midlands (or Greater Birmingham). It proved to be a considerable success and such was the growth of container traffic, a second terminal was opened at Lawley Street, Birmingham in November 1969. The industrial decline of the 1980s saw the Dudley Terminal close in September 1986.

F0 which pulled up many big tries in the neighborhood. I could see shingles and tree debris but unfortunately the camera did not pick it up. Yes it did sound like a mighty train.
The 06:30 DMU service from Preston to Barrow passes Plumpton Junction near Ulverston. The short freight spur that served the Glaxo Works is visible on the left beyond the Class 108 unit.

We've got a problem with time, aye? Well... At least I do. Seems we can waste it, but never take it. And it defines so many things in our lives... Dunno... The moment it's there, it's gone already :)
