She’s there, and already gone.

The city carries her like a current,

faces dissolve into lines of motion,

stories blur before they can be told.

In the rhythm of steel and glass,

we are all just echoes,

passing through.

Figures drift and pause against a burning wall,

some anchored, some already gone.

A moment of stillness inside the rush,

where colour holds what time cannot.

India has 26 distinctive breeds of cows.

Indian cows can be distinguished by the hump, long ears and bushy tail.

Cows are everywhere! Because the cow is respected as a sacred animal, it's allowed to roam unharmed, and they are pretty used to the traffic and the rhythm of the cities. One can see them roaming the streets in towns and cities, grazing unmindfully on the roadside grass verges and munching away vegetables thrown out by street sellers.

Holy Cow!!!

Engineer Jay Monty leans out the cab window of Monson RR #3 as he takes one of Edaville Family Theme Park's excursion trains past Atwood Junction, which is the junction between the old, 5.5-mile loop around Atwood Reservoir, and the current, 2-mile loop, which bypasses the reservoir entirely. Sadly, only a portion of the original trackage around the reservoir still exists as some of the original land is now a housing development.

White petals passing

Scents above so high

Painted porcelain perfection

Blossoms caress the sky

Swaying silent shroud

Suitors strolling by

Pink petals passing

Lover's gentle sigh

Pastel hues falling

Slow fluttering grace

Pink petals passing

Lining streams in lace..

Sadly reports suggest that The Great Marquess may have worked its last train. Hopefully that will not be the case as the K4 has often been the highlight of recent years photography, non more memorable than on that glorious morning on the Kyle line while working Great Britain 3 on 12th April 2010.

An image which I was unsure of at first, one that I have kept revisiting and I still cannot make my mind up. Thanks for looking.

The Union Pacific local that works between Columbus and Grand Island passes an old elevator west of Silver Creek. I don't remember when this elevator was in operation, probably being worked by a local like this one, but I am old enough to remember when standard cab EMDs would've been the norm on the Overland Route, there was a center siding here, and the two mains were operated with directional running and ABS. It was nice to get at least a little glimpse of that past at the end of 2023.

A couple of years ago, I was passing through Smithville, and stopped to check up on the status of the then long-closed, and increasingly derelict, feed mill. The two big silos have continued to corrode and the scabrous rust as well as the lichens continue to expand their presence on the well-faded blue-green (teal?) paint job. The ladder on one of the silos remained, albeit in a very rusted state. The colours still appeal to me and I intend to continue my periodic visits in anticipation of their likely ultimate replacement with more housing. - JW
