On Monday 18th December, 19 Junior cadets from 1360 squadron took part in their passing out parade, enrolling formally as cadets of the squadron. We also saw a variety of awards handed out, as well as a fond farewell to Sgt Mteta, who has been a loyal member of the squadron for many years, as she leaves to focus on studies. We wish her all the best
Contrast this photo to the previous one (Approaching the Sheraton) of the same train, headed up by CSXT SD50 #8554. A quick lens change to a standard 50mm and we get a more normal perspective.
Bessemer Court is much changed from when this scene was recorded in 1995. The CSX still operates many trains daily through here and SD50 #8554 is still on the roster. The former PL&E RR commuter platform is still here.
The unique little railcar shops on our left are gone, however, having been replace by chain restaurants that can be found anywhere. The Three Rivers Heritage Bike Trail occupies the former station track--not necessarily a bad thing because I love to bike and I hope to ride that trail someday. The trail has, however, necessitated the building of a tall chain link fence, which now renders train photography from the platform impossible. Many's the weekend day I sat on those benches with my camera, a good book, and my scanner.
