Steam in the Snow returned at Conway Scenic Railroad with the highly anticipated O-18a #7470. It is seen passing the Maine Central Roundhouse and a Portland Terminal plow.
First proper trip to Cornwall for over a year for bus snapping purposes, have to say really enjoyed it was nice to be back snapping stuff from the big F again.
Naturally headed to the college first as knew I could land a load of shots in a relatively short time.
I was impressed with presentation of the buses just the odd one looking a bit scruffy (mostly the ones left in the old liveries) but nothing like First of years ago.
Here B7s passing like ships in the night except its daytime! Unibus livery KP51WAO having dropped off its students is met with YJ54XUU inbound wearing the smart 'KERDROYA' livery for Cornish landscape labyrinth.
Pan Am's PORU with three blue GP40's; MEC 350 - MEC 313 - MEC 310 passes a small quarry about three miles up the branch with 70 cars on a cold winter afternoon.

Do you remember when you could photograph passing HST's at Ledbury. In theory by 2017 this should not have been possible but if the westbound ran late [which was more common than you might expect] then it was possible to get both of them in a reasonable position albeit some shadow from the signal box...

On a very wet and miserable day in February 2014, a brace of Carris Line 28 services pass in Lisbon's Rua das Ecolas Gerais. Eléctrico unit 559 had just cleared the single line section from Calçada de São Vicente and 567 was wating for the red signal to clear for it to continue its journey to Largo da Graça.

On my way to Red Lodge, Montana recently, the clouds and rain bearing down on the Crazy Mountains kept making me pull over to break out the Canon.
I am a sucker for stormy weather, especially when it includes wonderful landscapes.
I am so lucky to live in such a beautiful state, that provides so much photographic material!

This was the third stop on my short dreary morning chase of the extra Providence and Worcester unit ethanol train led by a B40-8, B40-8W, B39-8E GE trio the first two of which are wearing their original independent P&W colors with the third dressed in the Genesee and Wyoming corporate scheme. They are enroute to the Shell tank farm at the Port of Providence as they roll west on Main 3 of Amtrak's New Haven Line thru ATWELLS interlocking at about MP 184 passing a row of classic old brick warehouses lining Harris Ave.
They are on Main 3 of Amtrak's New Haven Line as they roll west thru ATWELLS interlocking at about MP 184 passing a row of classic old brick warehouses lining Harris Ave. The track they are now on is the dedicated freight track built between 2002 and 2006, that was the culmination of a decade long process known as the Rhode Island Freight Rail Improvement Project on 22 miles of of the NEC from Boston Switch to Davisville. 17 miles of dedicated track were built or refurbished and 5 miles of the shared Amtrak mains were constructed to accommodate auto rack clearances beneath the wires.
Providence was once a major railroad city laced with freight yards and customers. It was so busy the New Haven even had a retarder hump yard in service into the mid 1950s to classify all the local traffic, but a few generations later it's virtually all gone. All freight business in Rhode Island has been the domain of the Providence and Worcester since May 1, 1982, and the only freight trains to ply these rails are weekday local PR-3, the nightly road freight from Worcester to Davisville and the occasional unit ethanol train like this.
Beyond the train atop Smith Hill stands the Rhode Island State Capitol. The Neoclassical structure was designed architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White and it was constructed from 1895 to 1904. Rail historians will note another railroad connection there in that this was the same firm that designed New York's legendary Pennsylvania Station.

A little out-the-window grab as I raced the NS 148 towards Decatur earlier this year. This ex-SP patched AC44 led the manifest into central Illinois, certainly a rarity to see these days. The SP has never been my favourite railroad, but a bloody nose motor in 2024 is not something you can easily turn your nose up at! I imagine we won't have these around all that much longer, so any opportunity to see one is worth taking. I didn't really expect to get a clear photo driving by this guy, but one actually came out fairly clear, so that was certainly a nice change of pace.
Haymarket, just a short distance from Edinburgh Waverley, but equally as busy providing an extra outlet on the western edge of Edinburgh city centre. On 29th June 2026, a Scotrail Inter7City set with Class 43 No. 43164 leading & 43037 at the rear passes through Platform 2 with 5B74 1145 Edinburgh Waverley - Haymarket Depot ECS, while on the right Class 385 Nos. 385001 & 385040 await departure forming service 2P33 1145 Edinburgh Waverley - Dunblane.
