..."Running through memories like thieves in the night
Hold turns to dust, shattered by light
We were talking, passing strangers
Moments caught across an empty room
Wasted whispers, faded secrets
Quickly passes, time goes,
time goes by too soon"...
Passing Strangers
- Ultravox
Yesterday was a bit of a stormy summer day here. Between showers, hail and wind I managed to pop across the road and tried to capture some of the day.
Not the greatest of photographs I have taken finds 27205 passing through Princess Street Gardens as it departs Edinburgh on a Edinburgh – Glasgow push pull duty, 14th April 1977..
Locomotive History
27205 was originally D5410 and is one of sixty nine class 27 locomotives built by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BRCW) during 1961 and 1962. D5410 was delivered in August 1962 and was one of a large batch of class 27’s delivered for Midland Main Line duties. In March 1969 it was transferred to Eastfield and in late 1970 it returned south, entering Derby Works to be modified for Glasgow-Edinburgh push/pull duties. By the late 1960s, the class 126 DMU’s operating the Edinburgh – Glasgow Queen Street service were becoming unreliable and they were replaced in 1971 by rakes of six Mark IIa carriages powered by two class 27 locomotives fitted with push-pull equipment. Twenty four class 27 locomotives were fitted with push – pull equipment and dual brakes and twelve of these were also fitted with electric train heating capability via an auxiliary engine/alternator set. Initially allocated 27123 under the 1973 TOPS renumbering scheme (which did not differentiate between the two sub classes of push pull fitted class 27’s) it was almost immediately changed to 27205. The very intensive 90 mph service was demanding on the class 27 locomotives and reliability started to suffer with the class 27/2 sub class being prone to fire damage from their electric train heating equipment. Following the Glasgow-Edinburgh push/pull duties going over to class 47/7 operation in 1980 the push – pull and electric train heating equipment was removed from 27205 and it was renumbered to 27059. It was withdrawn in July 1987 and entered preservation and is currently (March 2022) located at Leicester MPD/.

Working through my archive and found this image from New Years Day a few years back, of two paddle boarders passing in the afternoon. White Rock, BC.

Encompassing 38,000 acres (150 square kilometers), Lake Lanier is a popular spot with boaters and jet skiers. After sunset, the reservoir in the Northern portion of Georgia, USA, is a magnificent and tranquil place.

Rainy weather is very common in the mountainous Lake District of Cumbria, England - and it has a beauty of its own.
The original painting is of a rainy scene, but then I thought it would be fun to see if I could make the sun come out in the foreground. All I succeeded in doing was brightening things up; I don't think it looks exactly sunny where the viewer is standing, even with the sky showing some blue.. I'll have to keep working on this!
This scene is based on a scene from Google Earth that I hand-painted.

Calgary on August 7 this storm was the Cloud in the previous photo. I would love to say it is the sun on the tracks but it is the Railroad yard for container shipping!)

Knowledge, like water, is vital to life. In this work, a continuous stream of water connects the two figures. The water is symbolic of the passing of knowledge from generation to generation. This embodies the Rotarians' hope that the values cultivated by the 4-Way test will continue to be a guiding principle in human relations in our future generations.
4-Way Test
of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to All CONCERNED?
3. Will it Build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIP?
4.Will it be BENEFICIAL to ALL CONCERNED?

The White Pass & Yukon's Mikado #73 works north on the eastern shore of Bennett Lake, passing the old section house at Pennington (MP 51.6). Once the location of a busy railroad waystation, including a section crew and water tank, the place is now a ghost town, with just a few empty buildings and a 24-car siding. The building is fragile and not currently important to the railroad, so its future is in question.
This image was captured during a September 2025 photo shoot on Alaska's White Pass & Yukon Route, which featured the line's only remaining steam locomotive, that being the 1947 Baldwin #73, seen here.

Early morning as Columbus sailed into Sydney. We passed under the harbour bridge and berthed further back, where we had a shuttle bus into the city centre. First stop was a Pharmacy to collect some eye drops
47840 North Star on the diverted 10.40 Edinburgh - Brighton passing the remains of the turntable pit. 13 March 1999.
Last shot in this series. After packing up and heading back to the car I passed this attractive young woman. After looking for a suitable person for this type of shot for ages and resorting to the "selfie" option I couldn't resist one more shot. I deemed she would make a better subject than me!
Not having time to set up, I shot this ramped the ISO up and hoped for the best.
