NEWPORT, RI – The U.S. Naval War College holds at graduation ceremony for students from the International Maritime Staff Operators Course (IMSOC) held at the Naval War College Museum onboard Naval Station Newport, June 2, 2023. IMSOC was jointly designed by the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) International Programs department and the College of Maritime Operational Warfare to teach international students the fundamental concepts and processes necessary to support a multinational maritime component commander at the operational level of warfare. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage. North American P-51D Mustang G-SHWN

• North American P-51D Mustang G-SHWN

• Operator: Norwegian Spitfire Foundation

• Year of Manufacture: 1944

• Powered by: Rolls Royce Merlin

• Colour Scheme: KH774 ‘GA-S’ 112 Squadron RAF (Shark mouth) 44-11602

This aircraft was manufactured in 1944 for the United States Army Air Force and registered as military serial number 44-73877. She did not see combat action during WWII.

During 1951 she was delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force where she served until 1958. From 1958 to 1980 the aeroplane was flown by various private owners. After an extensive rebuild from 1980 to 1985 she was registered N167F and bore the ‘Old Crow’ colour scheme of Col. Clarence Anderson who’s signature remains on the left undercarriage door panel.

In 2012 she was purchased by a UK owner and delivered to the UK in August that year. Since then the aeroplane has been overhauled and refitted and is now in the colour scheme of Lt. Blanchford, RAF 112 Squadron which operated from Italy in 1945 on ground attack missions over the Balkans and along the Adriatic coast.

Exceptional Tradeswoman/Operator/Technician in Qld Resources - Tanya Cambetis

This year's Exceptional Tradeswoman/Operator/Technician in Queensland Resources is Tanya Cambetis, a Development Execution Specialist for Glencore Queensland Metals. Tanya works at the George Fisher Mine near Mt Isa, one of the largest zinc, lead and silver mines in the world. She is a strong advocate for women in mining through her role as President of WIMARQ in North-West Queensland and as a mentor for Glencore’s Girls for Mining Program. Tanya is also studying for a Graduate Diploma in Mining.

He's such a smooth operator. :)

After receiving their gear, the new operators wasted no time heading to the range to put their weapons and equipment to the test. The range had been set up by the more experienced operators, who were also on hand to assist the newcomers. This initial session was not just about familiarization but also about ensuring that every piece of gear met their high standards of performance and reliability. From testing the precision of their firearms to assessing the functionality of their tactical tools, the operators ensured that they were mission-ready.

For a Tier One operator, training isn’t just a requirement—it’s a way of life. The ability to execute missions with precision and adaptability comes from relentless practice and preparation. Consistent training, especially marksmanship, is the foundation of their effectiveness on the battlefield.
