Plum thinks she's a smooth operator. ^__~ If by smooth she means goofy, then I think she's onto something!
She's adjusting her glasses in the left photo and looking suave in the right photo. Haha.

Population in cities in the United States is growing causing a greater need for mass transit of residents to work or play. If you have been to a professional sporting event in a large city then you probably know about the problem of traffic jams and accidents in populated areas. Many people who live in these urban areas have low income jobs and can not afford to drive to work or park a car in a secure area. This leaves the mass transit system a great opportunity for them to carry on with their life as most others do. New York is the only city that mass transit use is higher than those who use automobiles as a source of primary transportation. According to research completed by Eric Schenker and John Wilson from The Use of Public Mass Transportation in the Major Metropolitan Areas of the United States race has no effect on those who choose to use mass transit as a means for transportation. In New York there is an estimated 1.5 million people who use a source of subway system and 481 thousand bus riders opposed to 1.2 million people who use automobiles. In Atlanta Georgia MARTA (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) is a great source of mass transit around the city and in to some urban areas. In the photo is a rail operator who is proud of his job transporting people through Atlanta.

This is a 2024 upload of a scanned image from my collection. Probably 95% come from slides, the remaining 5% are prints or negatives. They include my own Kodachrome slides, as well as other photographers, which are noted accordingly when the identity is known. All have been collected over the past 40+ years of shooting, exchanging, and purchasing. I was fortunate enough to trade with some of the best aircraft photographers in the world.
This archive was first created in 2017, to easily view my collection in an accessible venue.

Rudel and his faithful gunner-radio operator Erwin Hentschel, who protected the shoulders of the ace of the aces for more than 1000 missions, shooting down 7 enemy planes. On March 20, 1944, Rudel wanted to land behind the Soviet lines to rescue the crew of a Stuka of his squadron who had just been shot down. Due to the soft ground however, Rudel was unable to take off. Forced to get off the plane and run away, chased by hundreds of Soviet soldiers, after half an hour of mad rush the four arrived on the bank of the Dniestr river, swollen by the melting ice. After falling for 40 meters along the steep embankment, they swam the wide and icy Ukrainian river full of drifting ice floes. Rudel managed to almost hypothermically reach the west bank of the river together with the other 2 crew members of the downed Stuka, only to see his machine gunner Erwin Hentschel disappear among the icy waters of the river, just 80 meters from the shore. "I can't take it anymore ... I can no longer ..." were Hentschel's last words in front of an exhausted, helpless and desperate Rudel ... it was Rudel who gave Hentschel the swimmer's diploma during the training before the war. Hentschel had been awarded the Knight's Cross. When he drowned, he was 26 years old.

this was definitely my favorite photo from my trip to new york. I was thrilled when he agreed to let me take a couple shots. He was literally pulling away from the station when I asked him. He said "sure, why not!", as I rattled two shots off and then pulled the camera away from my face to thank him... that's when he gave me this amazing smile and I snapped one more off w/o looking.... that was this shot. so glad I asked!
