The Isle of Wight operator, Southern Vectis was also a BCT / Tilling Group company, and hence operated buses made by the Nationalized Bristol / ECW combine. Here an FLF type Bristol Lodekka, CDL 479C swings into (I think) Newport bus station past the bus which was to become the types successor, the VR.
The variety of cars in this shot stood out when I looked at it for the first time in many years, something which I'd never have given a second glance to then.

Seen here in operation with an unknown operator at Chesham Broadway in August 1995 is former West Midlands Dodge S56 / Reeve Burgess D566 NDA operating on Service 373. Perhaps someone can enlighten me as to whom it was operating with at the time. To the right can be seen Luton and District Mercedes 811 K203 FEH which I had arrived on from Tring via rural service 49 via St Leonards and Cholesbury.

Smith's of Portland had 'inherited' a road service licence for a route to Weymouth from an acquired operator, but only on limited occasions - they renewed the licence as required, but never actually ran the journeys. However, in 1981, they were allowed to commence a limited daily service up to Weymouth, which was increased to roughly an hourly service in 1982. So this was a small-scale version of what was to come in the town following de-regulation, when all hell broke loose !
The Bedford YRT here had previous form with another service operator, B&B Services of Potten End, Herts., arriving here in 1981. It passed briefly to Brutonian in 1987, but only lasted a few months there.

There can have been few independent operators who have captured the imagination of the enthusiast over the last three decades as much as Green Bus. I don't know that much about it's early history, but I gather Warstone Motors as the initially traded, were a haulage business. Soon after commencing bus operations with things like single deck (first generation) Leyland Olympians, Tiger Cubs and Bedford OBs, operations seemed to mushroom quickly. The first double decker arrived in the form of a Massey bodied Guy Arab IV from the South Wales based Rees & Williams fleet.
This picture was taken in the mid eighties at their Jacob's Hall Lane garage and depicts things like East Lancs bodied Leyland Tiger Cubs and an ex Selnec Northern Counties bodied Atlantean.
Sadly the fleet is nowadays made up of Mercedes minibuses, with the only two operational 'large' buses being the two semi preserved O type Bedfords.
