The cemetery also offers a view of the changing style of death monuments in Ireland over the last 200 years: from the austere, simple, high stone erections of the period up until the 1860s, to the elaborate Celtic crosses of the nationalistic revival from the 1860s to the 1960s, to the plain Italian marble of the late 20th century.

The high wall with watch-towers surrounding the main part of the cemetery was built to deter bodysnatchers, who were active in Dublin in the 18th and early 19th centuries. The watchmen also had a pack of blood-hounds who roamed the cemetery at night.

In 2009, Glasnevin Trust in co-operation with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) began identifying the graves of Irish service personnel who died while serving in the Commonwealth forces during the two world wars. These names are inscribed on two memorials, rededicated and relocated in 2011 to near the main entrance. A Cross of Sacrifice was erected in the cemetery, in a joint Irish-British commemoration ceremony, to mark the First World War centenary. As of March 2017, there are 214 service personnel of the Commonwealth of both wars identified as buried here.

A woman offers a prayer at the Šarena Džamija (Decorated Mosque, aka Painted Mosque) in Tetovo, North Macedonia. The mosque was originally built in 1438 and unlike most mosques of the time that were sponsored by sultans, beys or pashas, Šarena Džamija was financed by the dowry of two sisters from Tetovo, Hurşide and Mensure, who are buried in the mosque’s yard. It was later rebuilt in 1833 by Abdurrahman Pasha. More than 30,000 eggs were for the paint and glaze used to make the elaborate, bright floral paintings (rather than ceramic decorations of traditional Ottoman mosques).

This is a photograph from the 2nd round of the 2015 Mullingar Road League which was held in Belvedere House and Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Wednesday 13th May 2015 at 20:00. The weather was much better this week for running with nice bright sunshine and little or no breeze. As it turned out this made the course considerably quicker with many runners recording faster times than the 1st round race. This year's 5KM is ran on a modified route based on the route from the last couple of years. The final 1KM is within the Belvedere Gardens bringing runners down to the lakeside for a second time and finishing along the aptly named Stream Of Life. The route modification means that the race offers a slightly faster route than the hill finish of previous years.

The race is promoted by Mullingar Harriers for the Pat Finnerty Memorial Cup. Competitors need to run 3 races out of the 4 races in May (any order) to be considered in the overall placing in categories at the conclusion of the league. Runners can also choose to just run one race without being considered for the overall league placings. Over 360 people took part in tonight's event. As with last week the new finish area provided a nice space for runners to stay around and chat in the evening sunshine. The Mullingar Road League 2015 is now half-way through and has continued successfully and looks to add to the success in the history of this great series. Despite the bright evenings the photographic conditions in Belevedere are difficult so this photograph is part of a smaller than usual photograph set as there were many blurred photographs this evening.

The "Road League" is something of a misnomer but is an indication of the League's origins on the roads around Ladestown Mullingar prior to it's move into Belvedere in 2008. The Road League is the envy of many other races in the country as the Belvedere locations offers a completely traffic free 5KM route.

We have an extensive set of photographs from tonight in the following Flickr Album: www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157652357781278

USING OUR PHOTOGRAPHS - A QUICK GUIDE AND ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS

Can I use these photographs directly from Flickr on my social media account(s)?

Yes - of course you can! Flickr provides several ways to share this and other photographs in this Flickr set. You can share directly to: email, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Tumblr, LiveJournal, and Wordpress and Blogger blog sites. Your mobile, tablet, or desktop device will also offer you several different options for sharing this photo page on your social media outlets.

BUT..... Wait there a minute....

We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. We do not charge for our photographs. Our only "cost" is that we request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, VK.com, Vine, Meetup, Tagged, Ask.fm,etc or (2) other websites, blogs, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us or acknowledge us as the original photographers.

This also extends to the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.

I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?

You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. Have a look for a down-arrow symbol or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.

I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?

If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

Please email petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com with the links to the photographs you would like to obtain a full resolution copy of. We also ask race organisers, media, etc to ask for permission before use of our images for flyers, posters, etc. We reserve the right to refuse a request.

In summary please remember when requesting photographs from us - If you are using the photographs online all we ask is for you to provide a link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. You will find the link above clearly outlined in the description text which accompanies this photograph. Taking these photographs and preparing them for online posting takes a significant effort and time. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around your social media, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc. If you are using the photographs in newspapers or magazines we ask that you mention where the original photograph came from.

I would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs

We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?

The explaination is very simple.

Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.

ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.

Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?

As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:

►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera

►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set

►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone

►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!

You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.

Don't like your photograph here?

That's OK! We understand!

If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.

I want to tell people about these great photographs!

Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Reims offers the most important example in France of an entire town in the architectural style of the 1920s.

As the town that suffered the most destruction of all the large towns in France by the First World War, it also took first place for the number of planning permission applications lodged between 1920 and 1930, with 6,500 in total. In both 1922 and 1923, this number was greater even than in Paris! With 80% of the town having been destroyed, during the 1920s Reims underwent an intense reconstruction phase.

In a context where the compensation was managed by the individual owners without the State or local authorities becoming involved in their choices, Reims was rebuilt with a very wide-ranging diversity of architecture. Thus the town centre of Reims, which suffered particular bombardment, and its suburbs offer a panorama of the major architectural trends of the 1920s in France. Several companies offer flightseeing tours of Denali National Park from the small airports in the the towns of Talkeetna and Healy. Although Talkeetna is more than 60 air miles south of the entrance to the park, it is actually closer to Mount McKinley than is the entrance. For this reason, Talkeetna is the starting point for most climbers attempting to Summit Mt. McKinley. This is the airport from which I took my own flight over McKinley. For years I dreamed of climbing McKinley one day, but that would take a minimum of three weeks time, thousands of dollars, months of physical conditioning, and would still be a risk of life. With my advancing age and limited pocketbook, I decided seeing the summit from the air was going to be the best I could do.

A variety of different tour routes and lengths are offered, with the most expensive being the summit flight.

A father of two has offered to share his home with convicted pedophile Dennis Ferguson. Brett Collins, an ex-prisoner and advocate for prisoners' rights, has offered to have Ferguson live with him in his Sydney home. Mr Collins says he is angered by the community uproar surrounding Ferguson. Ferguson has been hounded out by angry residents of one Queensland town and his current residence near Brisbane has been picketed by protesters.

This is a photograph from the Clane and Rathcoffey Parishes annual 10KM and 5KM Road Races and Fun Runs which were held in Clane village, Co. Kildare, Ireland on Sunday 19th of October at 14:30. This year's event follows on from the very successful staging last year (see link to photographs below). The organisers offer both a 5km and 10km race and the event provides an opportunity for runners, joggers, and walkers of all abilities to take part in the event. The 5KM has a particular emphasis on family entrants. There was a wonderful atmosphere around the Village as both races started and finished on the main street outside the parish hall. The directly out-and-back routes provided an opportunity for a fast time on a good course and made for a great finish line atmosphere as runners, joggers, and walkers crossed the line. Great praise must be extended to the whole organising committee who organised a very efficiently run event. The events provide some runners with an opportunity to have a final race effort session in the week leading up to the Dublin City Marathon.

Event Management and Electronic Timing was provided by Irish company Precision Timing. Their website is here with links to results from the race www.precisiontiming.net/result/racetimer

This photograph is part of a larger set of photographs taken at today's event. Photographs were taken at the start, 400 meters gone, 400 meters to go, 1km gone, and at the 9KM/4KM mark. The URL of the full set of photographs is www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157636717081724/

Overall Race Summary and Logistics

Participants: There were about 200 competitors combined in the two events.

Weather: The weather was very changeable for all of the events. During the 10KM race there was a heavy rain shower around the area of the 6KM mark but this didn't actually fall in the town. There was a strong headwind against competitors in the 10KM on the return part of the course between 6KM and 8KM.

Race Course:

This summary includes information on both the 5KM and 10KM races.

Both races start in the same place - just outside the Race HQ on the main street of the town. The races then proceed north eastwards out the Dublin Road towards Straffan and Celbridge. Just after 400 meters the races take a left up a small local road and proceeds along this road until it takes a tight left hand turn at the end of the lane at Capdoo goo.gl/maps/aPo26 (Google Streetview). The route proceeds until it shortly meets the Clane-Kilcock Road - College Road R407 goo.gl/maps/SGcPa. Both races will divert into Clane Business and Industrial Park goo.gl/maps/EQMf0 . The 5KM turns around and returns on the same route to the finish. However the 10KM race continues (taking a left) back onto College Road. Soon afterwards it passes the famous entrance to Clongowes Wood College on the right the race takes the next left (goo.gl/maps/zUhrJ) and brings runners onto the road known locally as the 'Long Road' (R408 Between Rathcoffey and Prosperous) at this point goo.gl/maps/fHKr2. The race proceeds northward until runners meet the Clane Kilcock Road once again. With the exception of the partial run into the Industrial Estate the race returns to the finish on the main street in Clane via the same route as the outward part of the route.

Location Map:

Clane Parish Hall (Race HQ) goo.gl/maps/MgakJ

Refreshments:

There was a really wonderful array of refreshments provided in the parish hall after the race for all participants.

This three-day conference is offered in the Group Relation tradition which offers a unique opportunity to study the conscious and unconscious dynamics involved in how groups organize themselves and interact with each other. This conference is not a passive learning event that relies upon lectures. Instead, the learning is experiential. Participants study how leadership, followership, authority, task, boundaries, and roles operate in the different group experiences they enter during the conference.

Honor and Respect is offered to these Great Leaders of History

Geronimo

1829-1909

Known to his tribe as Goyathlay, meaning "One Who Yawns". Born in present day New Mexico at the headwaters of the Gila River, Geronimo was the last warrior fighting for the Chiricahua Apache. He became famous for standing against the U.S. Government & for holding out the longest. He was a spiritual leader & medicine man. Geronimo final surrender in 1886 was the last significant Apache guerrilla action in the U.S., his group consisted of only 16 warriors, 12 women, & six Children.

Mangas Colorades

1797-1862

A Chiricahua Chief & natural leader because of his intelligence & size. Unusually tall, he was over six feet in height. Mangas united the Apache tribes, led them in a successful war of revenge & cleared the New Mexico area of white settlers. After the Americans started to occupy the region, searching for gold, Mangas tried several peaceful ways to get the whites out of his land. On one occasion, miners tied him to a tree & lashed him nearly to death before releasing him, he was killed by Union soldiers at Fort McLane. One soldier took his scalp, another boiled his flesh from his head, & sold the skull to a phrenologist.

Loren

1840s-1889

Lozen was the younger sister of the mighty Apache war leader Victorio, & the most famous of the Apache War Women. Victorio is quoted as saying, Loren is my right hand...strong as a man, braver than most, & cunning in strategy, Loren is a shield to her people." Loren was quite unlike her counterpart, Dahteste. Loren had no concern for her appearance &, even though she is an several famous photos of Geronimo with his warriors, there is nothing to indicate that she is a woman. She was manly in her appearance, dressed like a man, lived & fought like a man. She devoted her life to the service of her people.

Cochise

1800s-1874

Shi-ka-she was a tall man, six feet, with broad shoulders & a commanding appearance. He never met a man his equal with a lance, & like Crazy Horse, was never photographed. Many have said that he was the most powerful Apache leader in history. At his death, it was reported that his people wailed loudly for more than a day. After his death, the Government broke the historic treaty made with Cochise & in 1876 moved the Chiricahua from the ancient mountain homeland to the dry Arizona desert. "Nobody wants peace more than I do. Why shut me on a reservation? We will make peace; we will keep it faithfully. But let us go around free as Americans do. Let is go wherever we please".

Victoria

1825-1880

A Chiricahua Chief of the Warm Springs Apache. When his people were removed from their ancestral home to the desolate reservation of San Carlos, Arizona, Victorio bolted for Mexico with a group of followers. He & his people terrorized the border country with continual raids. Victorio always managed to elude his pursuers. In October 1880, Victorio died at a place called Tres Castillos while waiting for a small raiding party to acquire ammunition they needed. Victorio was taken by surprise when Genral Joaquin Terrazas & his army attacked Victorio & his band of 78 Apache. His descendants reside on the Mescalero Apache Reservation.

Nana

1810-1900s

Nana was married to Geronimo's sister. After Victorio's death at the Tres Castillos massacre in 1880, it was Nana who guided the remians of the tribe into safety. For more than two months Nana eluded 1400 troops in a thousand-mile campaign with only 40 warriors. Even at an old age & almost with a crippled leg, Nana could out-ride & out-last any warrior in the saddle. He showed no signs of weakness, & challenged any white man that stood in his way. It is said that to revenge of Victorio's death Nana was responsible for killing more white men than Victorio had done in his lifetime. Nana died of old age, & lived his last years in reservation.

First Division

Narrative

On the 3rd of August 1914 the Australian government offered to send an expeditionary force of 20,000 men to Europe, which it decided to organise as an infantry division and a light horse brigade. Accordingly, the First Division was formed in Australia in August 1914. Intended to be representative of the nation as a whole, it was organised from contingents from all states. It was originally intended to send the division to England for training and thence on to the Western Front but the division was diverted to Egypt instead on the recommendation of Colonel Harry Chauvel, owing to the state of training areas in the United Kingdom. The division arrived in Egypt in December and began training at Mena, near Cairo, and in sight of the great pyramids.

On Anzac Day, 25 April 1915, the First Division made an amphibious assault at what is now known as Anzac Cove, on the Gallipoli Peninsula. On Anzac Day the division was unable to capture its objectives but secured a toehold on the peninsula. It served throughout the campaign there. In May the 2nd Brigade was re-embarked and participated in the attack on Krithia at Helles but returned in time for the Turkish counter offensive on 19 May. On 15 May, its commander, Major General William Bridges was fatally wounded by a sniper. During the August offensive, the First Division captured the Turkish positions around Line Pine. Finally, it was involved in the withdrawal to Egypt in December 1915.

In March 1916 it moved to France, taking over part of the line in the "nursery sector" around Armentieres. On 23 July 1916, it joined the Somme Offensive, capturing the town of Pozieres at great cost. A second tour of Pozieres followed in August and a third at Flers in October after a rest break in the Ypres sector.

In 1917 it was involved in the pursuit of the Germans to the Hindenburg Line. While maintaining outposts close to that line around Lagnicourt, the division was struck by a powerful German counterattack on 15 April 1917 and beat it off. In May it relieved the Second Division in the Second Battle of Bullecourt.

After a rest spell, the division returned to the Ypres Salient and participated in the Third Battle of Ypres, in which it fought with great success at Menin Road in September and Broodeseinde in October.

In April 1918 the First Division halted the German offensive at Hazebrouck. It remained there, apart from the other divisions for four months, engaging in a spirited and active campaign against the enemy. It rejoined the Australian Corps in the Somme region in 1918 in time to participate in the Battle of Amiens and fought on to the Hindenburg Line.
