Conceived from a class project offered through the faculty of Community + Culture at ECU during the 2011 winter semester in partnership with Pivot Legal Society, this exhibit features unique pieces in a range of media, which participants created as a direct result of their engagement with the topic of homelessness, and specifically with the Pivot Legal Society’s Red Tent Campaign. Emily Carr University of Art and Design students Avalon Mott and recent graduate Katrina Humphries make their curatorial debut with works created by students enrolled in Community Projects: The Red Tent Campaign at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre.
The majority of artworks included in RIGHT were originally created to support the participants’ activist-style public interventions, which were conducted in and around the city of Vancouver, between February and April 2011. By holding these interventions, students hoped to raise awareness about the issue of homelessness, educate the public about Pivot and their Red Tent Campaign, and familiarize people with bill C-304, an act (which since the recent election has been temporarily removed from parliament) that would provide secure, affordable, accessible, and adequate housing for all.

100 strangers, six word story, and 30 days of gratitude
I met this artist (masters candidate) at a photography exhibit I saw. I had walked quite a bit that day, and when I entered the gallery, I felt a bit ragged.
She was sitting at a desk greeting people in the gallery. She offered that I could take the chair by the desk around the gallery as I looked at the photos displayed. I really didn't feel old up to this point in time (except when a younger person offered me their seat on the subway.). But then to this student, I did appear to be a senior citizen, exhausted, and possibly in need of a chair.
Still I was grateful even though I told her no thanks for the chair.. I would have felt very subconsious walking around with the chair, stopping to look at each photograph. However, I did decide to sit a bit before I walked around the gallery. A bit turned out a little longer as I thought, here I am in a gallery of portraits - why not ask her to participate in the strangers project?
We talked about her artwork - she describes it as yarn sculpture and showed me what looked like a squid. It was an interactive sculpture she said and encouraged me to handle it, feel the texture, and arrange the tentacles as I wished. The yarn looked like it had been felted, but she said it was actually knit and filled with stuffing commonly used in toys. She also said she had knit her sweater which I did not include in the photo because I often get so close to the subject as to exclude anything but the face.
I am grateful for her kindness in offering the chair, and her time spent answering all my questions about her art studies. She was very soft spoken and also unusually outgoing in a shy sort of way. Thank you for agreeing to participate in my strangers project.

An amusing side note - when I sat down, I looked to my right, and the photography on the wall was of a woman sitting with one shoe off. I thought "oh my aching feet" (actually it was my knees). What a fitting photograph to be representing just that!!

Many opportunities are offered by the Caspian Sea region. It is important that they are handled with care in order to maintain the rich biological and mineral resources over a long time. The natural wealth of the region around the Caspian Sea in mineral resources also involves high metal concentrations. Industrial activities, in particular mining, are raising the metal concentration in sediments to levels exceeding permissible limits. Often, once the oil extraction activity stops, waste remains and constitutes a hazard. In Kazakhstan there are 19 oilfields with 1485 oil wells in the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea, including 148 in the flooded zone. Drilling technology in the 1960s to 1980s did not account for the corrosive nature of seawater and its effects on metal casing and lay head. Over time, wells have become considerable sources of marine pollution. Some 600 000 hectares of land in the Atyrau and Mangystau Oblasts of Kazakhstan are polluted with a thick layer of oil penetrating the soil to a depth 8 to 10 metres and polluting the ground water. About 30 000 hectares of soil on Azerbaijan’s Absheron peninsula is polluted by oil products and various forms of industrial waste.

December 27, 2018 - "Rising over 700m above the Jordan Valley, Mount Nebo offers spectacular views of the Promised Land as seen by Moses. On the platform at the summit is a modern sculpture by an Italian artist representing Moses' staff and Jesus' words in John 3: "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up."
Elements of a triple-apse Byzantine basilica were uncovered by archaeologists in the 1930s, and have been incorporated into the structure of the modern church building, known as the Memorial Church of Moses. The modern additions to the church are very simple, consisting of little more than a shelter over the fascinating excavations and ancient mosaic floors.
Just inside the entrance to the left is the excavated Old Baptistery, which has one of the most interesting ancient mosaics in Jordan. The baptistery and the mosaic can be precisely dated to August 531 thanks to a Greek inscription, which also names the three workers who created it and the bishop at the time (Elias).
The Old Baptistery mosaic is in remarkably pristine condition because another one was laid over it just a few decades later in 597. The underlying mosaic remained hidden for nearly 1,400 years until it was discovered in 1976 when the one on top was removed for restoration (it now hangs on a wall).
The mosaic of 531 is a large square divided into four strips of scenes of men and animals, surrounded by a chain-style border. The top two sections depict fierce hunting scenes: a shepherd fighting a lion, a soldier fighting a lioness, and two horseback hunters defeating a bear and wild boar.
The lower scenes are pastoral but with a touch of the exotic: a shepherd watching his goat and sheep graze in the shade of trees; an ostrich on a leash held by a dark-skinned man; and a boy holding the leashes of a zebra and a spotted animal that looks very much like a camel but might be intended to represent a giraffe.
There are more mosaics in the nave and side aisles of the church, including some fragments of the 597 mosaic pavement. The oldest mosaic in the church is a braided cross displayed on the south wall.
Also hanging here are mosaics of animals from the Church of George in Mukhayyat. One of these is from 536 and has an inscription that some believe is the earliest example of Arabic script in Jordan (others argue it is old Aramaic).
In the far right-hand corner of the church is the New Baptistery (597 AD), which was previously a funerary chapel. It includes a small mosaic originally from the threshold bearing the greeting, "Peace to all."
Next to the New Baptistry, a lovely mosaic cross from the original 4th-century church stands on a modern altar in its original location. A photograph of the Pope praying at the same altar is proudly displayed.
Next to the exit door is the Theotokos Chapel, added in the 7th century where three rooms of the monastery previously stood. Its apse has a mosaic of a square object that may be a ciborium (vessel for the Eucharist) or altar canopy, accompanied by bulls and gazelles. Wednesdays at the garden here offer late hours--until 8 PM--so, after some time spent during mid-afternoon, we headed out to a local eatery to have a bite. This is a 1958 "Field & Stream" Travel Trailer ( canned ham ). This vintage style of camping trailers were referred to as "car trailers" back when they were being built because of their size, light weight and ease of towing. The cabin part of the trailer is 12' long, the tongue is 2' making the total length only 14'. It pulls beautifully going down the highway, no fish tailing at all. You can forget your pulling a trailer.
This trailer is 95% original, no modifications. This trailer has not been restored and I have only made a couple of small repairs. If you are looking for a great platform for making a complete restoration then this would be an absolutely great trailer for such a project.
The interior is all wood, top to bottom and front to back and it is all original wood. I have installed a self-contained 12 volt electrical system and it doesn't need 120 volt. Everything runs off of 12 volts. However all of the original 120 volt wiring is still in place and hasn't been touched, even the original 120v light fixtures are still in place. All of the cabinet hardware is still in place, working and original. All the hinges, handles, and everything is original. The original "icebox" and oven/stove are still in the camper and work great. It also has the original factory installed "Kenmore" cabin heater and it also works great.
When I got the trailer someone had changed the paint scheme so I re-painted it to the original design. The rear couch makes into a double bed. Above the rear couch it has a removable bunk bed/hammock that is original factory equipment also. The dinette also makes into a double bed. There is a lot of storage in the camper. It also has a 10 gallon fresh water tank with a manual hand pump.
The trailer also comes with 2 30 lb propane tanks, a new spare tire and wheel.
The following items are new in the past three months:
New Interior 12 volt light throughout the camper
New 240 watt solar panel
New "Sunforce" 12v, 30 amp charge controller
4 new "Everstart" 750 cold crank amp deep cell marine batteries
New "Cen-Tech" 1500 watt continuous , 3000 surge 120v power inverter (for microwave, etc.)

New manual water pump for sink
New Shakespeare SeaWatch 15" Marine TV Antenna (model 3015)

This is one great little camper. I bought it for hunting plus the nostalgia. It was used this past hunting season and worked great. However with four adult men it was a little cramped. So I plan to up size for next year. I pulled it off road in BLM land in Teller County and down in the Phantom Canyon area and had no problems at all.

Cadillac offered two different Sedans for 1959: a four side window (Model 6239A) and a six side window (Model 6229K). The six side window was more modern looking (for its time) than the four side window model which had a flat top with a lip over the wrap-around rear window rather than this more elegant arching top with the rear window integrated into the arch.
The Sedan de Ville Series 6300 line offered the same two four-door body styles (Models 6329B & 6329L) as the Sedan Series 6200 line but with a very small trim change. The Sedan has the Cadillac crest under the trim spear on the front fender and no model name on the rear fender. The Sedan de Ville had no front fender crest but does have the "Sedan de Ville" model name on the rear fender. Navigating ones way through the 11 different body/trim levels Cadillac offered in 1959 can be a daunting task!

They are (probably) made out of acrylic yarn. I say so because I've washed them in case they would shrink to my size (I have very little feet!) But they did not. And they are not itchy as well.
