illuminates Saturn from below. Saturn's tilt throws ghostly shadows of
the rings onto the northern hemisphere during the current season.
The image was taken with the Cassini spacecraft wide angle camera on Jan.
23, 2005, at a distance of approximately 2.8 million kilometers (1.7
million miles) from Saturn through a filter sensitive to wavelengths of
infrared light centered at 728 nanometers. The image scale is 166
kilometers (103 miles) per pixel.
The Cassini-Huygens mission is a cooperative project of NASA, the
European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency. The Jet Propulsion
Laboratory, a division of the California Institute of Technology in
Pasadena, manages the mission for NASA's Science Mission Directorate,
Washington, D.C. The Cassini orbiter and its two onboard cameras were

Bridgeforth was installed as the resident bishop of the Greater Northwest Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church on Sat., May 20, 2023, during a worship service at Aldersgate UMC in Juneau, Alaska. The Greater Northwest Area includes the Alaska, Oregon-Idaho and Pacific Northwest Annual Conferences. Photos by Patrick Scriven, PNW Conference.
This is a photograph from the first running of the Killyon 5KM Fun Run and Walk which was held at Moran's, Hill-of-Down, Killyon, Enfield, Co. Meath, Ireland on Sunday 22nd June 2014 at 11:00. The run was organised to raise funds for the Killyon National School Building Fund. This was a very well organised event. The whole Killyon/Hill-of-Down community were out in force helping with every aspect of the race organisation. Race Headquarters was Moran's Pub ("The Hill").
The race started on a local boreen about 1.5KM from the Finish Area. The run then proceeded on a clockwise direction over the Hill-of-Down to Langan's Cross. Taking a right here the run went to the next Canal bridge at Ballasport. The final 1.5KM were run on the beautiful bank of the Royal Canal which brought participants back up to Moran's and the finish line. Interestingly the race crossed the Canal twice and crossed over and under the Dublin Sligo Railway line. Hill-of-Down was once a station on this railway but closed in the 1960s. No trace of the station remains today.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the race and on it's first running this turned out as a brilliant success. The event will hopefully become an annual event.

Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. Herhold: Phuong Ho interview offers key to beating case

Like many of you, I've watched the grainy cell phone video that allegedly shows San Jose State student Phuong Ho being beaten by San Jose cops Sept. 3. Although the sounds of Ho's shrieks are unmistakable, it's hard to see exactly what's happening.
But there's a second video on the Mercury News web site (www.mercurynews.com) — an interview with Ho by reporter Sean Webby — that's an essential bookend to the cell phone version. It gives a face to a victim, a persuasive face.
Two moments stand out: The first comes when Ho talks about how the beating started. In his retelling, the first blow fell after he bent down to pick up his prescription glasses.
The second moment comes at the end
of the interview, when Ho, 20, describes how the police treated him. And it's abundantly clear that his pain wasn't just physical. It lay in his shock at losing his sense of self-respect.
Having been lied to many times in my career, I know the signs of the fib — the overheated retelling, the inconsistent details, the denunciation along ideological lines. You don't see them with Ho.
By this, I don't mean that he's an angel. Anyone who would wave a knife and threaten a roommate over a piece of soapy steak, even in jest, might have issues with anger management. Remember, the cops got a call about a guy who had wielded a weapon.
Sequence of events
But in weighing all this, consider the sequence Ho describes. Not understanding police procedure, Ho tried to follow an officer who entered the student's bedroom. A second officer stopped him. Ho's glasses fell to the ground.
Ho, who claims he can't see anything without them, says he asked to pick them up. Not hearing anything from the officer, he says he thought he had permission. He contends the first baton struck as he bent down to retrieve them.
"As I picked up my glasses, he hit me on the back, and I fell on the ground, with my glasses off again," he said. "So I still cannot see anything."
And there it is on the video: A wan smile, an acknowledgment of his blindness and the low comedy of the situation. Ho raises both hands toward his head as he relates the futility of his quest for the glasses.
Then, as he describes the beating that followed, he says, "How could I move? I couldn't even move an inch. How I could I resist arrest?"
Thick accent
You have to think that here is a guy with several strikes against him: He's a Saigon native with a thick accent and dubious grammar. He doesn't understand police procedure. And he's in a narrow space.
At the end of the Webby video, Ho muses about what the event meant. "They don't treat me like no more human," he says. "They treat me like some other thing. They just hit me like an animal or something."
And yes, there it is, again, a telltale sign — the grimace that folds his features and breaks his composure. Ho spits out the word "animal" like a bitter taste in his mouth. It's hard to think he's making this up.
I'm not convinced that an investigation of this case will produce any charges against the cops. Like I say, the cell phone version is grainy. And it is extraordinarily hard to make charges against cops stick before a jury.
But if you look closely at both videos, comparing the sound track of one with the sincerity of the other, the doubt about what happened that night starts to fade away
