The Pitt Wildlife Management Area offers the perfect set of trails for nature lovers and bird watchers as well as those looking for a nice easy walk along the dikes of Pitt Lake.
Starting from the Grant Narrows parking lot, walk east past the boat launch area to the metal gate and continue along the Pitt Lake Dike. A short distance after leaving the parking area, you approach a wooden viewing lookout. Climb the stairs to the top and take in the views of Pitt Lake and the marsh area as well as the nature living throughout the area.

The Pine Warblers offer a welcomed splash of color during the drab winter months.
Fortunately for us and them they seem to enjoy almost all the food we offer from the suet, seed cakes, meal worms and hot meats. When one feeder runs out they always have a back up!
Oh, and they're awfully cute, too!

This panorama offers a partial view of the Colorado River and the Glen Canyon Dam near Lake Powell and Page, Arizona. It is located near the colossal Horseshoe Bend featured on the previous image. The 710' high dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation between 1956 and 1966. It forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of 27 million acre feet (33 km3). The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges now flooded by the reservoir; Lake Powell is named for John Wesley Powell, who in 1869 led the first expedition to traverse the Colorado's Grand Canyon by boat.
This cavern offers a completely ride-through cave experience on propane-powered Jeep-drawn trams.
Fantastic Caverns was discovered in 1862 by an Ozarks farmer -- or more precisely, by his dog, who crawled through a small entrance in a hillside. It wasn't until five years after its discovery that the first exploration of Fantastic Caverns took place: twelve women from Springfield, answering a newspaper ad seeking explorers, ventured into the cave. Fantastic Caverns is one of more than 7,300 documented caves in Missouri, and more are still being discovered. Missouri is called The Cave State.

The long summer days offer many unique perspectives on the famous Elb valley line, but one must wake up very early and go to sleep late to capture them. In May I made spontaneous three day trip to the Elbetal on the account of a perfect weather forecast and the 125th anniversary festival of the Kirnitzstalbahn tramway. The schedule allowed the near perfect combination of both events, with the early morning and late evening for trains and the day for trams, but it was tiring...the early morning sun lights up the town of Koenigstein as the 06:40 S1 from Dresden rolls into the station behind a class 143. The 143s normally dont work the S1 nowdays but due to a shortage of 146s atleast three sets per day were operating with them on my visit.
The Granger Homestead and Carriage Museum offers an 1816 Federal-style mansion in Canandaigua, New York. The property remained in the Granger family for four generations. A carriage house contains a carriage museum.
Two barns on the 10-acre (4.0 ha) hold close to 100 antique carriages and sleighs. One barn has a large collection of original Granger family farming equipment
Bicentennial Park is a 40-hectare of parkland located 16 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of City of Parramatta. Bicentennial Park is situated on the shores Homebush Bay and is a part of the Sydney Olympic Park in New South Wales, Australia. The Park is a natural heritage site featuring an important wetland ecosystem and parklands. It offers visitors recreation, nature-based tours, environmental education and outdoor event experiences. The park has picnic areas, playgrounds, pathways and cycle ways, access to the wetlands, salt marsh and bird hides. It also features Lake Belvedere, Peace Monument, Treillage Tower, Sundial, 'Cyrus the Great' statue, the Silent Hearts Memorial Garden and water features. Powells Creek runs through the eastern side of the park. The Homebush Bay wetland is occupied by animals that thrive in the salt water wetlands. Bicentennial Park was created by the state and federal governments during the 1980s, to celebrate Australia's Bicentenary in 1988. The project involved recycling 47.4 hectares of former rubbish dump into a regional recreation area and the conservation of 53 hectares of a wetland ecosystem on the Parramatta River. This is a beautiful hummingbird captured on one of our trips to Costa Rica . Unfortunately we are in the process of moving and all my books are packed so I am not able to definitely I.D. This species of hummingbird !.. One I had not edited and going through the files is like taking the trip again. Such a wonderful escape to the beauty that Costa Rica offers !!

During courtship/bonding in the breeding season, male bee-eaters offer insect 'snacks' to females. Here on the branch are two males, left and middle (with the dragonfly) and the female to the right. Bothe sexes are alike with this species but females can often be separated from males by body size...but not always.
These migratory birds can be found as far north as Finland and as far south as South Africa, extending east into some Asiatic countries too. Most commonly, European Bee-eaters will breed and nest in southern Europe, then migrate south during autumn and winter.
European bee-eaters live for five to six years. The difficulties of migration and avoiding predators along the way affect every bird. Bee-eaters today also find it harder to find food, as there are fewer insects around as a result of pesticides.

I took this a couple of days ago and didn't really like it from an artistic point of view. I was going to put it on my growing reject pile when various people nagged me to post it, so here it is in all its glory. The Woodlands Waterway offers a quiet urban corridor where nature and modern architecture meet. The waterway provides a strong central leading line that draws the eye toward the distance. Glass-clad office towers rise on both sides, their cool blue façades reflecting softly in the still surface below. The reflections are nearly symmetrical, slightly softened by gentle ripples that add movement without breaking the tranquility. On the left, a curved pedestrian promenade lined with trees guides the viewer into the scene.

A elegante Basílica dos Mártires situa-se na famosa rua Garrett, no requintado e mítico Chiado, bem no centro da cosmopolita cidade de Lisboa.
Com origens bem antigas, diz-se que a Ermida foi erguida a mando do primeiro rei Português, D. Afonso Henriques, em honra a todos os cruzados martirizados na tomada de Lisboa aos Mouros em 1147, podendo-se ler no interior a seguinte inscrição “Nesta paróquia se administrou o primeiro baptismo depois da tomada de Lisboa aos Mouros no ano de 1147”.
Não obstante, o presente templo começou a ser construído em 1769 e foi terminado em 1786, ostentando um profuso estilo Barroco tão característico da marca Pombalina do Lisboa pós terramoto de 1755, de acordo com o projecto do muito conceituado Arquitecto Reynaldo Manuel dos Santos.

I want to take a moment and celebrate all my Flickr contacts as well - I chose to photograph a section of my kitchen chair (above) as a symbol of the friendship I have with most of you. The strands represent all of you, coming together to form a single point of strength and every day providing me with support and most of all encouragement. As with the chair, every strand counts - from the most timid but consistent "fave" (you know who you are) to the most flamboyant award giver (you know who you are too!). Please know that all this support combined has helped to up my quality and has stirred my imagination to a degree I never thought possible. (EN) The curved basement gallery of Alicante's Provincial Palace offers one of the city's quieter art experiences — a circular space of polished marble, clerestory light and white walls that follow a gentle arc. Three large-format oils occupy the wall, their warm ochres and golds answering the warm tones of the stone floor.
The central work commands the room: a luminous depiction of a 1920s touring car rendered in broad, confident strokes, its golden coachwork glowing against a background of tropical vegetation and figures in period dress. The painting reads less as transport and more as theatre — movement, colour and Mediterranean light held in a single frame. Finally, the curved architecture quietly amplifies everything it contains.

Dante's View in Death Valley National Park, California, USA offers a breathtaking sight as the sun rises, showcasing many hues and colors. The photographer and tripods on the overlook appear minuscule against this vast backdrop. Photographs fail to capture the true beauty of this place.
In his beautiful palace by the sea, the Prince of the Peacocks proudly shows his betrothed, Princess Petunia his prized pet parrot, and offers her a posy of pretty petunias.
The theme for “Smile on Saturday” for the 20th of July is “P… in the picture”, where the image can be anything, but must contain something that begins with the letter P. That left me lots of choices. I had a few runners-up that were photographed first, such as a peridot and pearl pin, and my beloved Paddington bear, but in the end the Playmobil won out because I could include multiple items beginning with the letter P: prince, princess, peacocks, parrots, a perch, a posy of petunias, and even for those of you who are very observant, a grey pigeon amongst the white and blue doves. Even the background is a P for it is made of paper, as is the floor, which is patterned, and since everything else in this picture is Playmobil, I would say that it is practically perfect for the theme! I hope you think so too, and that it brings a smile to your face!
