Saana is a fell in Enontekiö, Finland. Saana's summit lies 1,029 metres above sea level and 556 m above the adjacent Kilpisjärvi lake. Geologically it is part of the Scandinavian Mountains, and is made of the same kinds of schist and gneiss rock. The mountain was historically considered sacred to the Sami people. The peak is a popular destination for hikers and backpackers because of the sweeping views offered at the summit.

Kilpisjärvi is located at the very northwestern point of Finland.

The Pitt Wildlife Management Area offers the perfect set of trails for nature lovers and bird watchers as well as those looking for a nice easy walk along the dikes of Pitt Lake.

Starting from the Grant Narrows parking lot, walk east past the boat launch area to the metal gate and continue along the Pitt Lake Dike. A short distance after leaving the parking area, you approach a wooden viewing lookout. Climb the stairs to the top and take in the views of Pitt Lake and the marsh area as well as the nature living throughout the area.

Thank-you for all the overwhelming support and many friendships.

1974 Ferrari Dino 246GTS

Dino was a marque for mid-engined, rear-drive sports cars produced by Ferrari from 1968 to 1976. Used for models with engines with fewer than 12 cylinders, it was an attempt by the company to offer a relatively low-cost sports car. The Ferrari name remained reserved for its premium V-12 and flat 12 models until 1976, when "Dino" was retired in favour of full Ferrari branding.Named to honour Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari's son and heir Dino Ferrari, the Dino models used Ferrari racing naming designation of displacement and cylinder count with two digits for the size of the engine in deciliters and the third digit to represent the number of cylinders, i.e. 246 being a 2.4-litre 6-cylinder and 308 being a 3.0-litre 8-cylinder. Ferrari street models of the time used a three-digit representation of the displacement in cubic centimeters of one of the 12 cylinders, which would have been meaningless in a brand with differing numbers of cylinders. The Dino 246 was the first Ferrari model produced in high numbers. It is lauded by many for its intrinsic driving qualities and groundbreaking design. In 2004, Sports Car International placed the car at number six on its list of Top Sports Cars of the 1970s. Motor Trend Classic placed the 206/246 at number seven in their list of the 10 "Greatest Ferraris of all time".Calls for more power were answered with the 2.4 L (2418 cc) Dino 246. The motor was a 65-degree, dual-overhead-camshaft, 9.0:1 compression ratio, iron block with alloy heads. The European motor produced 195 bhp (at 7,600 rpm), and was available as a fixed-top GT coupe or, after 1971, an open Spyder GTS. The American version had an exhaust air-pump, and timing changes which created 175 hp (130 kW). The GT had 3 Weber 40 DCNF/6 or 40 DCNF/7 carburetors. For the 246 a new version of the Dinoplex ignition was deployed, the more compact Magneti Marelli AEC103A system. The 246 Dino GT weighed 2,380 lb (1,080 kg). The 246 Dino GTS weighed 2,426 lb (1,100 kg). The body was now made of steel to save cost. The 246 Dino had a 2.1-inch (53 mm) longer wheelbase than the 206, at 92.1 inches. The height of the 246 was the same as the 206 at 43.9 inches.Dino 246 production numbered 2,295 GTs and 1,274 Spyders, the latter being built from 1972 to 1974 only, for a total production run of 3,569. Three series of the Dino were built, with differences in wheels, windshield wiper coverage, and engine ventilation. The Series I cars, 357 of which were built until the summer of 1970, used the same center-bolt wheels as did the 206. Series II cars (built until July 1971 in 507 examples) received five-bolt Cromodora alloys and "clap-hands" wipers. The Series III cars had minor differences to gearing and fuel supply, and were built at a much higher rate as sales in the United States commenced with this version. 1,431 Series III coupés and 1,274 GTS cars were built.

The Aero Car was designed by a Spanish engineer, Leonardo Torres Quevedo and has been in operation since 1916. The cable car is suspended from six sturdy cables and offers a wonderful view of the Niagara Whirlpool which is formed at the end of the rapids where the gorge turns abruptly counterclockwise, and the river escapes through the narrowest channel in the gorge.

Anselm Kiefer: The Renowned Orders of the Night

Contemporary art museums offer space on an immense scale and artists have to compete with that. Although Anselm Kiefer tackles nothing less than the universe, his canvas looked modest in the Guggenheim Bilbao. This young family gazed upon it like a modern Joseph and Mary, seeking shelter for the night.

Adventure in Baños:

The circuit offered by this park is a complete adventure in Baños. The excitement begins with a flight over the San Martin canyon through a 850 meters (2,788 ft) long zipline or canopy. I reached such speed that it seemed that I was swallowed by the throat of the canyon upon arrival. Fortunately they have an excellent brake system and a motorized platform that allows you to comfortably lower the cable. According to the guide who accompanied me, some people have come to fly at 130 km / h. The speed depends on the weight of each. It starts from a height of 150 meters (492 ft) above the river.

When I descended from the canopy I found a large basalt cave (dry lava) full of sand that makes me look as if I was on the moon. You could hear the strength of the Pastaza River as it passes through the canyoning.

Next, I had to cross the river bank and there was no better idea than to hang a 90 meters (295 ft) long Tibetan bridge. Two hand cables and small foot plates form this bridge located 50 meters (164 ft) above the torrential river. They say that the trick to not fear heights is not to see below, this was not an option here, you must see where to walk forced. The bridge moves with each step giving you a feeling of extreme adrenaline.

I was always with a safety harness in case I lose my balance, although I tell you that I did not want to experience hanging in the middle of the bridge, I took every step very carefully.

After this I found myself on a small path where the only way out is a vertical wall to climb. This was the third activity: the 90 meters (295 ft) ferrata track. Small metal stairs attached to the rocks allow me to ascend without major problem. Every certain section I had to change the safety harnesses on the steel cable, also called the "lifeline", to which the climber is attached all the time. The height ensures my nerves, calm.

Finally, I took a new 350 meters (1,148 ft) zipline at the other end of the canyon. In this one I could make several positions and breathe the pure air, excellent to relax after all the extreme activities.

This cavern offers a completely ride-through cave experience on propane-powered Jeep-drawn trams.

Fantastic Caverns was discovered in 1862 by an Ozarks farmer -- or more precisely, by his dog, who crawled through a small entrance in a hillside. It wasn't until five years after its discovery that the first exploration of Fantastic Caverns took place: twelve women from Springfield, answering a newspaper ad seeking explorers, ventured into the cave. Fantastic Caverns is one of more than 7,300 documented caves in Missouri, and more are still being discovered. Missouri is called The Cave State.

This panorama offers a partial view of the Colorado River and the Glen Canyon Dam near Lake Powell and Page, Arizona. It is located near the colossal Horseshoe Bend featured on the previous image. The 710' high dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation between 1956 and 1966. It forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of 27 million acre feet (33 km3). The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges now flooded by the reservoir; Lake Powell is named for John Wesley Powell, who in 1869 led the first expedition to traverse the Colorado's Grand Canyon by boat.

Kiribilli offers great views at Sydney Harbour and is one of my favourite places to hang out, relax and to take photos. I first noticed the puddle reflection by accident on a walk along the waterfront in December 2017. I took a nice photo of Harbour Bridge and its reflection. Then, a couple of weeks later, already being back in Germany, I reviewed my photos and got the idea to merge several horizontal photos to create a panorama of the whole cityscape including the puddle reflection. With this in mind I came back to this place during my next stay in Sydney in May 2018 - everything was planned and well prepared - but unfortunately there was no puddle due to low tide. At least this was great to try the framing...but for the final photo I had to come back again. A few days later, equipped with a large bucket and a rope, I set up my tripod, filled the puddle and finally took the desired shots. Luckily this was the day before the start of Vivid Sydney - the view was great since the bridge was fully shining. The result is this merge of 5 vertical long exposure shots with my beloved EF 24mm 1.4 prime lens.

I was offered to take a tour to Highgate Cemetery West and I agreed to join a small group of young ladies who were art students and definitely knew more about this cemetery than me...

With its sinuous paths winding up a steep wooded hill and ivy-clad monuments, Highgate Cemetery West is a secluded funerary landscape at its most evocative. It is home to the most impressive architectural features of Highgate Cemetery — the Chapel, Colonnade, Egyptian Avenue, Circle of Lebanon, Terrace Catacombs and the mausoleum of Julius Beer. If you've not been before, you really need to get the full Highgate Cemetery ticket!

Petra in Jordan has a lot to offer.

Autumn offers special and favorable meteorological conditions for beautiful fog in the mountains. During our hike in the Kaunertal, the fog was so thick that at times you couldn't see your own hand in front of your eyes. It also snowed the night before. With reasonable equipment, the hike was still fun for us. So, there are no more excuses not to go outside in bad weather.

P.S .: The fog was actually so thick that hardly any colors appear on the "color film".

"Many who have commented about this photo had a similar interpretation as I did: abstracted, intergalactic soldiers on the march! It also reminded me of the White Stripes' Seven Nation Army. The composition of the architecture and negative space offers a "leap of faith" of sorts to the viewer and thus the openess to our mutual interpretation. Congrats Myxi on being the Admin's pic of the day! What a beautiful ministract!"

The Woodlands Waterway offers a quiet urban corridor where nature and modern architecture meet. The waterway provides a strong central leading line that draws the eye toward the distance. Glass-clad office towers rise on both sides, their cool blue façades reflecting softly in the still surface below. The reflections are nearly symmetrical, slightly softened by gentle ripples that add movement without breaking the tranquility. On the left, a curved pedestrian promenade lined with trees guides the viewer into the scene.

The 35-acre Langdale Estate offers something for everyone with the 4-star Langdale Hotel, and 5-star self catering accommodation

The Estate is near the village of Elterwater in the English Lake District on the site of a former quarry.

In 1823 a local entrepreneur with an interest in quarrying, saw the potential for the manufacture of gunpowder on the site. The seclusion, natural waterpower and a growing demand from the Lakeland mines & quarries ensured success. Within a few years the Elterwater Gunpowder Works was not only supplying the domestic industry, but also exporting to North America & South Africa

The powder works closed in 1930, a victim of the depression & the development of more modern explosives, such as dynamite. A local landowner, recognising the potential of the unique location, bought & developed the site as a holiday resort in 1930 which has grown ever since

It sounds as if it comes from a world where sorrow is perfectly ordinary, but still there is more to be said … Everything you fear is true. And yet. Everything you have done wrong, you have done really wrong. And yet. And yet … Shut up and listen, and let yourself count, just a little bit, on a calm that you do not have to make for yourself, because here it is, freely offered.

“When fortune calls, offer her a chair”....Thanks Rita for your testimonial!

I want to take a moment and celebrate all my Flickr contacts as well - I chose to photograph a section of my kitchen chair (above) as a symbol of the friendship I have with most of you. The strands represent all of you, coming together to form a single point of strength and every day providing me with support and most of all encouragement. As with the chair, every strand counts - from the most timid but consistent "fave" (you know who you are) to the most flamboyant award giver (you know who you are too!). Please know that all this support combined has helped to up my quality and has stirred my imagination to a degree I never thought possible. We must learn to trust what we see and photograph it in the best possible way. Thank you and here's to quality, good fortune and honest opinions!

The Rappbode Dam in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt near Oberharz am Brocken not only connects a hydroelectric power station, a reservoir and a dam. With its 106-meter-high dam wall, it is considered the highest example of its kind in Germany. The reservoir that forms from the facility is also the largest reservoir that the Harz has to offer.

While the facility and the surrounding area are worth a visit in themselves, the Harzdrenalin leisure park has developed into a popular excursion destination in recent years, inviting visitors to take part in very special activities around the dam.
