STONES liberates objectively assured facts - such as the existence of 40+ known planents on which water could exist - from any and all human interpretation and passes them on to coming generations in their pure form as representations for which no prerequisite cultural background is necessary for them to be grasped. Instead, they can be decoded by means of pure logic and scientific observations.

Nikon 10X Achromatic Finite Conjugate Objective is a cheap yet good. Very affordable, about 90 US dollars.

The only downside is the short working distance, 5.6 mm.

My second week of snowboarding and my aim was to get the board off the ground a bit - I landed this one and was stoked.

My first attempt didn't go so well!

The Stations of the Cross or the Way of the Cross, also known as the Way of Sorrows or the Via Crucis, refers to a series of images depicting Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion and accompanying prayers. The stations grew out of imitations of Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem which is believed to be the actual path Jesus walked to Mount Calvary. The objective of the stations is to help the Christian faithful to make a spiritual pilgrimage through contemplation of the Passion of Christ. It has become one of the most popular devotions and the stations can be found in many Western Christian churches, including Anglican, Lutheran, Methodist, and Roman Catholic.

Commonly, a series of 14 images will be arranged in numbered order along a path and the faithful travel from image to image, in order, stopping at each station to say the selected prayers and reflections. This will be done individually or in a procession most commonly during Lent, especially on Good Friday, in a spirit of reparation for the sufferings and insults that Jesus endured during his passion.

The style, form, and placement of the stations vary widely. The typical stations are small plaques with reliefs or paintings placed around a church nave. Modern minimalist stations can be simple crosses with a numeral in the centre. Occasionally the faithful might say the stations of the cross without there being any image, such as when the pope leads the stations of the cross around the Colosseum in Rome on Good Friday.

We had two objectives for yesterday's trip to london:

1. to visit St Pauls

2. to ride on this.

St Pauls was £15 and photography isn't allowed inside, so we did not go in. Charging £15 to in is bad enough but not to allow photography is wrong coupled with the charge, IMO.

But the cable car was brilliant, and you can use your Oyster Card to jump the queues and save money on the rides.

This is after we completed the second crossing and were back at Royal Docks station.

From 21 to 23 April 2020, the MINUSCA Zambian Battalion provided security escort to Birao based humanitarian actors, MINUSCA Military Observers and Civil Affairs personnel to and from Am Dafock town, in the North-East of CAR. The objective of the visit was to estimate the humanitarian challenges in the area and to sensitize the local population on the Coronavirus Disease.

I cannot remember why I have this Soviet Jupiter-8 objective. It is most propably for an exotic (for me!) Communist/Socialist rangefinder camera.

The Jupiter-8 is evidently a postwar copy of the prewar Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f/2 for the Contax. In Soviet Union it was originally made (by KMZ) for Arsenal's Kiev (=Contax copy). KMZ later produced its own version in L39 (Leica thread) mount for its Zorki camera series.

I haven't seen in Interweb any complaints about the image quality. Soviet optical factories had a tradition for sharp optics, and this one is no exception. The edges may not always be the bee's knees, but the center can be dead sharp with killing contrast. Is also said to be a good color optic. I haven't tested it by any means.

The filter thread is something odd; so I haven't ever thought to use it reversed for macrophotography.

Objective met: straight hang and few wrinkles

One of the main objectives of the European Union is to promote economic, social and territorial cohesion between regions. The reformed EU Cohesion Policy 2014-2020 comes at a pivotal moment. Recent years of austerity have seen rising unemployment and widening inequality, especially in peripheral regions, with youth, women and ethnic minorities worst affected.

Making over €350 billion available to invest in Europe's regions, cities and the real economy, the reformed Cohesion Policy is the EU's principal investment tool to deliver the Europe 2020 goals: creating growth and jobs, tackling climate change and energy dependence, reducing poverty and social exclusion. Once member states’ national contributions and the leverage effect of financial instruments are taken into account, the impact is likely to be over €500 billion.

Launching a new partnership with the European Commission, with the participation of the OECD, Salzburg Global’s program is timed to help key stakeholders understand the rules and results-oriented focus of the reformed Cohesion Policy and ensure maximum impact for these investments. It will build on our longstanding European program which has featured over 15 sessions devoted to the EU’s development and expansion, grounded in our location at the crossroads of East and West.

The 2014 program will focus on ways in which regional development policy and complementary instruments can enhance competitiveness and effective governance at local, regional and transboundary levels.

Participants will examine tools for environmentally sustainable innovation, human capital development, creation and financing of SMEs and the transition to a low carbon economy. They will compare practical projects and mechanisms that have delivered successful outcomes for competitiveness and inclusive growth, in and beyond Europe, in order to identify transferable tools and connect stakeholders who are leading cutting-edge work around the world.

The program will be held from May 17 to May 22, 2014 in Salzburg, Austria, with a one day, high-level pre-session meeting on May 17-18, focusing on European competitiveness, the shift to low carbon economies, and the role of sustainable cities.

By request, another preference / feature I just finished implementing allows you to specify a time period that you'd like Anxiety to pop up after. The logic behind this is that after you've been working for a while, the list window will fade in to remind you of your pending tasks – thus keeping you on target. Note that this is a completely optional behavior; if you think you'd find such reminders irritating, you can simply leave them disabled.

This functionality will become available in the next update of Anxiety, which you can check for using the Check For Updates menu item under the application menu. Otherwise, Anxiety will automatically check for updates upon launching.

This is the shot I'll post as the entry way into my set of Iris droplet objectives. I shot all of these in a 45 minute session Saturday morning. I was very lucky to come across these in such an amazing state of drenchedness, with the sun just coming over some trees as I arrived. I captured the sun very clearly in several of these, so if you like the ultimate sparkly drops, check it out.

This shot shows what I think is a triple play. Droplets inside droplet inside droplets. Anyway, hope you enjoy the set.

Click here to view the 36 shot slideshow. They have done a great job improving the slideshow function, in case you haven't tried it yet.

Nicolas originally had his note around the three I put up, which was fine with me, but you couldn't read the three I put up as a result. That is a problem with notes that flickr will have to fix.

It’s objectively too late to restrain population and consumption growth so as to avert what ecologists of the 1970s called a “hard landing.”

It is the lie that human society can continue growing its population and consumption levels indefinitely on our finite planet, and never suffer consequences.

Perhaps Donald Trump succeeded because his promises spoke to what civilizations in decline tend to want to hear. It could be argued that the pluralistic, secular, cosmopolitan, tolerant, constitutional democratic nation state is a political arrangement appropriate for a growing economy buoyed by pervasive optimism. (On a scale much smaller than contemporary America, ancient Greece and Rome during their early expansionary periods provided examples of this kind of political-social arrangement). As societies contract, people turn fearful, angry, and pessimistic—and fear, anger, and pessimism fairly dripped from Trump’s inaugural address. In periods of decline, strongmen tend to arise promising to restore past glories and to defeat domestic and foreign enemies. Repressive kleptocracies are the rule rather than the exception.

Yes.. when world leaders like Trump & Erdogan visit our country, we stage protest marches.

Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design

The principles of design:

There is pattern because of the way the books are located and put in a line the way they are. Because the photo has a pattern it makes the eye follow the pattern throughout the whole photo which is emphasis. The books are placed on a book self which makes the photo all tie together which is unity. This photo has movement because it forces your eye to move through the whole photo instead of just in the focused position.

The elements of design:

Vertical lines that explain the whole picture and diagonal lines that fit in with the photo. Negative space would be where there is one book on the shelf and there’s like space all around it, it fits but could’ve tried a different angle. Positive space would be where I focused the camera on the books. Rough texture would be the spine of the book. And smooth texture would be the bottom of the shelf.

Objective 4: Lighting

Type of lighting and why: hard lighting because of the lighting in the library.

Objective 5: Post Production (ex. dust/spot removal, resize, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)

Corrections/adjustments made AND/OR techniques applied: I added contrast to the photo to brighten up spots and darken ones that needed I also used exposure. I also used hue and saturation which made the books pop in certain spots.

Objective 6: Critique

Analyse your photograph for strengths and areas for improvement (consider elements and principles of design, lighting, exposure, overall feel, etc.) The way I positioned the photo makes the eye go throughout the photo instead of just where the focused place was. Could have been a little more creative.

The objective of the rally was to demand that the leadership of the city listens to the voices of the people of Chicago instead of those of the corporate elite. It's time to end the privatization agenda of the one percent that hurts families, neighborhoods and closes school. Elected public officials must stand against corporate raiders and invest in communities and neighborhoods.

Specifically:

Raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Companies like McDonald's and Walmart can easily afford to pay a decent wage. They make billions of dollars in profits each year, yet the people on the front line who do the work to make this possible are told to 'find second jobs' or live on public assistance programs.

An elected school board that represents the people, not just bankers and CEOs. In Chicago, the school board is appointed by the mayor.

Reform the Chicago Housing Authority. The CHA must be accountable to the people it is supposed to serve. It has currently stockpiled millions of dollars in federal funding, more than enough to issue over 13,000 housing vouchers. Meanwhile, thousands of Chicagoans will be homeless this winter.

End home foreclosures. Bankers should negotiate with homeowners who are experiencing difficulties meeting their monthly mortgage payments. This is a much better way to go than simply throwing people out into the street.
