The GEF Biennial International Waters Conference (IWC) is the signature learning event for the GEF IW portfolio. The IWC objectives are to facilitate cross-sectoral and portfolio-wide learning and experience sharing. Participants sum up progress achieved and also look to the future of programming within and beyond the GEF IW focal area.
The IWC convenes about 300 participants, comprising GEF IW project managers, representatives of beneficiary countries, non-governmental organizations, transboundary management institutions, UN Agencies and the private sector.
The IWRM AIO SIDS project invited the focal points and demonstration project managers from Comoros, Seychelles, Mauritius, Maldives, Cabo Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe to take part to the Conference.

Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design
Emphasis: The main focal point is in focus while the rest of the photo is out of focus. This draws the eye to the main focal point which is in the rule of thirds.
Contrast: The differences from the dark and light greens draws the eye to a specific point in the image with creates an area of emphasis.
Balance: The Balance between the light are dark is equal which draws the eye to all parts of the image.
Unity: The background is in harmony with the foreground of the photo.
Colour: The cool colours of the green of the leafs brings out a sense of belonging to the photo
Line: The horizontal lines of the branch leads the eye up the branch but still keeps the eye focused on the main focal point.
Tone: The differences between the dark and light brings value to the photo
Objective 4: Lighting
Soft diffused lighting from the clouds outside.
Objective 5: Post Production (ex. dust/spot removal, resize, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)
First I duplicated the layer then I went to High Pass under Filter, then other. This brings out the detail in the leaf and the water droplets on it. Then I used the curves to balance out my contrast. I sharpened my original layer to make it just a bit sharper. Then finally I resized my photo to upload it to Flickr.
Objective 7: Photographic Styles (ex. portrait, landscape, etc.) – Explain why the settings and composition are appropriate for the style of photography. (How did you create the shot?) You do NOT need to do Objective 2 if you are handing in this objective.
Type/style of photography: Nature Photography
The camera mode (P, Tv, Av, M): AV, I used this setting to get more control over my aperture.
f stop used: F/5.7, I used this f stop number to get a shallow depth of field
shutter speed used: 1/400, this is the shutter speed that AV mode chose
ISO used: 200, because the lighting outside was bright, so I had to use a low ISO
Exposure compensation: -1, when I was taking the photo, the camera made the pictures too bright so I had to turn down the Exposure.

Commonwealth Games protested

In 1982 the Commonwealth Games were held in Brisbane. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people used the international focus on the event to their benefit, bringing to light the injustices they faced every day by staging a protest.
Brisbane 1982 - Highlighting injustices
The Commonwealth Games is an international sporting event between current and former colonies of the British Empire held every 4 years. In 1982 they were held in Brisbane. The international attention the Games brought about provided an opportunity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to highlight the injustices and discrimination they were facing.
The objectives of the protest were many and covered a range of different areas of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander life but two of the significant issues raised were land rights and control of Aboriginal affairs. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community wanted complete ownership of their lands in Queensland and to be able to protect Country from mining.
Legalities of the marches
It became clear as early as January of 1982 that activists were planning some sort of action for the Games. As the supposed ‘threat’ of Indigenous activity grew closer, the then Queensland Premier Joh Bjelke-Peterson declared a State of Emergency and proclaimed street marches illegal. Only two marches were approved by Queensland police making all other marches illegal. This meant that anyone who took part in unapproved marches could be arrested and charged under the new Games legislation. If a protestor was found guilty they faced a fine of up to $2,000 or two years in prison.
The protest
As the games drew near the Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community began calling out for people to come and support the protests and demonstrations against the discrimination they were suffering.
Leaders of the Community had differing views what kind of action would get the best results. Some believed peaceful rallies and cultural festivities would best get the message across while others felt that it would make little impact and that they needed to be more forceful.
On September 26 around 2,000 people marched for land rights. Protesters carried placards and banners and walked peacefully from the city to a park across the Brisbane River. It was considered Queensland’s biggest Aboriginal march at the time.
On September 29 another 1,000 people marched peacefully across central Brisbane in support of land rights. Hey held placards, banners and wore badges that read:

A demonstration was held during the opening ceremony and police were called to have protesters removed. As the police moved in and began arresting people, protestors chanted 'the whole world is watching.' Thirty-nine people were arrested in that demonstration.
A further 104 protesters were arrested on October 4 during a land rights sit-in near the athletics stadium. According to The Age newspaper those who were arrested were the first people to be charged under the Queensland Government's Games security laws. Most charges were dropped over the next year. On the same day around 20 spectators sat quietly in the stands of the athletics stadium holding Aboriginal flags for the duration of the program.
Another rally was held on October 7. Around 500 people attended. Brisbane activist, Ross Watson, spoke to the crowd saying that "we are going to march today…we have no permit…we will be breaking the law. If you march you are likely to be arrested." About 400 police descended on a group of protestors who broke off from the main and arrested around 260 protesters including the then Governor-General’s daughter Ann Stephen.
This was a stark example of police and government suppression of our people’s right to protest and free speech. Despite the harm caused by the authorities, the people involved fought hard to have their message heard.

I cannot remember why I have this Soviet Jupiter-8 objective. It is most propably for an exotic (for me!) Communist/Socialist rangefinder camera.
The Jupiter-8 is evidently a postwar copy of the prewar Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f/2 for the Contax. In Soviet Union it was originally made (by KMZ) for Arsenal's Kiev (=Contax copy). KMZ later produced its own version in L39 (Leica thread) mount for its Zorki camera series.
I haven't seen in Interweb any complaints about the image quality. Soviet optical factories had a tradition for sharp optics, and this one is no exception. The edges may not always be the bee's knees, but the center can be dead sharp with killing contrast. Is also said to be a good color optic. I haven't tested it by any means.
The filter thread is something odd; so I haven't ever thought to use it reversed for macrophotography.

It's bad enough to be stuck in a day-long training. But when you find out that you're stuck in a day long training for something you'll never do, that's even more frustrating... Thankfully, we have substance abuse to help us cope with life's frustrations.
WIT: Went with a small depth of field to convey that there's a reason the bottle isn't full, and perhaps to give a feeling of all that frustratingly useless training blurring into a mass of stuff to be forgotten.
Each line and curve means something, and it's beautiful! I would love to see the Flight Test Plan including the test objectives.

The objective of the rally was to demand that the leadership of the city listens to the voices of the people of Chicago instead of those of the corporate elite. It's time to end the privatization agenda of the one percent that hurts families, neighborhoods and closes school. Elected public officials must stand against corporate raiders and invest in communities and neighborhoods.
Specifically:
Raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Companies like McDonald's and Walmart can easily afford to pay a decent wage. They make billions of dollars in profits each year, yet the people on the front line who do the work to make this possible are told to 'find second jobs' or live on public assistance programs.
An elected school board that represents the people, not just bankers and CEOs. In Chicago, the school board is appointed by the mayor.
Reform the Chicago Housing Authority. The CHA must be accountable to the people it is supposed to serve. It has currently stockpiled millions of dollars in federal funding, more than enough to issue over 13,000 housing vouchers. Meanwhile, thousands of Chicagoans will be homeless this winter.
End home foreclosures. Bankers should negotiate with homeowners who are experiencing difficulties meeting their monthly mortgage payments. This is a much better way to go than simply throwing people out into the street.

My objective today was to work with extension tubes added to my 70-200mm lens to get as close as possible and as clear as possible with hand-held shots. The tubes make managing DoF a challenge so the 'keeper' rate goes down, but I got some I like. Hope you do to.
Founded in 1683, The Ashmolean re-opened on Saturday 7th November 2009. Their new display approach is "crossing culture crossing time." It was my first glimpse today, the much loved older museum is still here, but now enormously extended and plenty more to enjoy.
Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Ashmolean is currently undergoing a £61 million redevelopment. Award-winning architect Rick Mather has designed a new building to replace all but the Grade I listed Cockerell building. His design will double the existing gallery space, allow environmental control, and create a dedicated Education Centre and conservation facilities.
I've tried to show something of the atmosphere and texture of the museum in many of the photos, I also wanted to convey the sense of movement and people's interaction with the art objects, therefor razor sharp clarity (were I to achieve that) was not my number one objective. This set will grow as I explore the new galleries, I hope you'll forgive me if I do not tag or describe everything right away as there is so much to take in! Martin Beek Oxford, November 2009

Travis Air Force Base Airmen conduct a mass launch of 22 mobility aircraft Sept. 11, 2013, practicing the combat capability of safely launching a fleet of aircraft in minutes. The launch of seven C-17 Globemaster IIIs, 11 KC-10A Extenders and four C-5 Galaxies in 36 minutes, 21 seconds provided essential training for personnel in flight operations, operations support, aircraft maintenance, fuels and air traffic control. Objective 3: Composition Techniques – Use the guide on the website
1. Rule of Thirds: the hand, stick and some are the sparks are in the rule of thirds
2. Perspective and depth: from first person’s eye
4. Backgrounds: the black and white background makes the spars and the sparkler pop more because the black is solid and simple and doesn’t draw attention to it
7. Texture: the texture mostly comes from the sparks coming off the sparkler and also you can see texture in the hand
9. Colour: i turned down the exposure so you could see the real colour of the sparkler witch has a yellow and orange colour and not make the sparkler white
11. Space and/or Space to Move: the negative space is on the two sides of the sparkler it doesn’t take away from the photo it adds more focus on the sparkler
12. Balance: it’s evenly centered and draws your eye to the sparkler and hand
Objective 4: Lighting (side, back, soft, hard, fill)
we set up the studio light on soft light on the right of the sparkler so we could bounce the light off the back ground so we could focus and make the sparkler show up more. Also light coming off the sparkler and that’s a form of hard lighting
Objective 5: Post Production (resize, contrast, sharpening, and others you have done)
I added more contrast so it made the sparks pop out more
I added a vignette so the back round was black so it make the sparkler stand out more
I also cropped the photo and sharpened the photo so the sparks really popped out
Objective 6: Critique
Strength: I like how I caught the sparks coming off the sparkler
I also like how I added the vignette because it really makes the sparkler and the sparks stand out
Area for growth: next time I would want to try to not make the fire in the sparkler so white cause it kinda takes all the attention away from the photo

Haringey's warped bins graveyard. The design objectives behind the wheelie bin were efficient use of space and safety: to provide at least as much space as the older round bins, whilst reducing the risk of injury caused by moving it. This is important for both householder and bin man, who risked injury through lifting the traditional bin or from sharp, or possibly contaminated objects in rubbish bags. Standard dimensions are important because the bins must be lifted by a fixed sized hoist on the dustcart. The bins are lifted by the lip at the front which must be designed for maximum stiffness and mechanical strength.
If I had something else than a Tamron18-270 with Kenko 2x, extension tubes and +2 close-up filter... that Foto would be amazingly great :'(
But anyway, the picture quality is crap but the moment is great!

This "SP-level" zoom tube doesn't belong to the lot I described early but is a former Tamron Adaptall purchase.
The rear end has in this photo its 'original' adapter marked 'K/R'. What cameras these are - I don't know.
I'll release some sample photos shot with this objective - before CLA, which is evidently needed.
