I have an increased number of Pine Warblers now. Last week I had 3 males and 2 females. This week they have been joined by 2 more males.
They seem to be in competition for the ladies. One will land and another one will come by and chase him off. It was quite amazing and amuzing to watch them yesterday as I stood by the tree. They kept flying right by me and landing very close.
They seem to be very interested in me and what I'm doing. They are curious, friendly little birds. They also LOVE the camera~!

Objective: Research an artist and create a 6-8 slide power point presentation with research on that artist. Pick a piece of artwork by that artist and create a parody piece in the style of that artwork. This is a parody of Marc Chagall's "Over the Town".The medium I used was Adobe Photoshop and the technique I used was painting with the paint brush tool. One element of art that I used was value, i used many different values of gray in the piece since the original artwork had lots of gray buildings, background,etc. A principle of art that I used was emphasis on superman and the girl by making them larger and in the center of the piece like in the original piece, this way the viewers attention goes to them right away.

Objective markers! I'm taking part in the Objective marker swap and figured that since I've had a wicked headache for two days that painting was out, but sniffing glue while I make things would be fine... I might as well get a start on them today... Heh, seems funny for me to make these as I don't play that much, but hey it's all in good fun.
The barrel & jerry cans come from a WW2 set. Thought they give a good look to one of them. The 'rock' is a broken up wine cork... I think I should be concerned with how many wine corks I have floating around my house... If I look at it to closely it might indicate I have a problem... But I'm not into self-introspection that much :D

Once member states’ national contributions and the leverage effect of financial instruments are taken into account, the impact is likely to be over €500 billion.
Launching a new partnership with the European Commission, with the participation of the OECD, Salzburg Global’s program is timed to help key stakeholders understand the rules and results-oriented focus of the reformed Cohesion Policy and ensure maximum impact for these investments. It will build on our longstanding European program which has featured over 15 sessions devoted to the EU’s development and expansion, grounded in our location at the crossroads of East and West.
The 2014 program will focus on ways in which regional development policy and complementary instruments can enhance competitiveness and effective governance at local, regional and transboundary levels.
Participants will examine tools for environmentally sustainable innovation, human capital development, creation and financing of SMEs and the transition to a low carbon economy. They will compare practical projects and mechanisms that have delivered successful outcomes for competitiveness and inclusive growth, in and beyond Europe, in order to identify transferable tools and connect stakeholders who are leading cutting-edge work around the world.
The program will be held from May 17 to May 22, 2014 in Salzburg, Austria, with a one day, high-level pre-session meeting on May 17-18, focusing on European competitiveness, the shift to low carbon economies, and the role of sustainable cities.

Our Association was organized in 1975 with an objective of "to promote within our community an understanding of and appreciation for our local heritage”. In 1979 and 1980 Hay Creek acquired the historic Joanna Furnace property from Bethlehem Steel and have broadened our mission to include the preservation and restoration of this treasured 18th & 19th century iron making community.

It's the peak of apple harvesting time. During this beautiful fall season, the Hay Creek Apple Festival offers a wonderful day with some great family fun. All ages will enjoy the brisk fall air and savor the delicious array of homemade Hay Creek apple specialties.
Every imaginable apple food is available throughout the day. . . from fresh cider to fritters, pies, tarts and dumplings and so much more. And, you can start the day with an all-you-can-eat apple pancake breakfast, served from 7 am to 11 am. The apple cider press will be featured with continuous demonstrations and fresh apple cider for your purchase. Traditional apple foods like "Schnitz und Knepp" (apples, dumplings and ham) and apple butter are always a special treat; as well as Mabel's Kettle Soup, cooked to perfection over the open fire. Additional festive foods and beverages will be served. Numerous family activities round out the festival. These family events include scarecrow building, pumpkin painting, early American games, hay and pony rides. The children will especially love a ride on the Apple Barrel Express. Visitors can also shop at the flea market area that offers over 100 vendors with crafts, flowers, fall items and an array of unexpected items for anyone's interest.

The lines and patterns on my cowboy boot are all non objective shapes, and with the placement on each side of the boot they appear to be symmetrical on each side.

In the Philippines Star of Hope mainly work with education. The objective with the educational program is to give children from poor slum areas a good education and with that a better start in life.
Totally 3000 children in the Philippines get their education by Star of Hope. At the school in the Manila suburb Taytay 2900 children get their education. We give hope for the future and development where it is most needed.

Objective 2: Creative Exposure
The camera mode (P, Tv, Av, M) and why I chose it: Av mode was set so I could have control over the aperture setting and depth of field.
f stop used and why: f/8.0 was used to ensure the best quality photo as it is the best spot for the lens to shoot at.
shutter speed used and why: I was able to use 1/30 shutter because the camera was rested on the floor. I wanted the shot to be crisp and to capture the detail.
ISO used and why: ISO 200 was used since I was shooting close to a very bright window with no other light in the room (outdoor light). I wanted a crisp shot with minimal noise.
Exposure compensation and why it was used: Exposure compensation was set at +2/3 to adjust to the brightness; to make the subject less dark in the bright background.
Focal length and why: 36 mm was used to better compose the photo and to make for a simple background. I did not want to get too close to the object that the camera could not focus.
Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design
The principles of design demonstrated (describe the use):
Repetition – The repetition of the bows creates a sense of unity. The similar smaller bow in the background also helps to create depth in the photo.
Contrast – The is a noticeable difference between the various light and dark black/white tones which shows a strong contrast.
Emphasis – The front bow is placed close to the top left point of interest drawing the eye there right away.
Movement – The bows are angled away from the camera which creates an implied diagonal line that leads your eye into the photo … gives depth
Unity/harmony – The repetition of the bows show harmony as they have a similar shape, detailing, and placement.
The elements of design demonstrated (describe the use):
Line – The curved lines of the bows give a sense of charm and beauty. Some diagonal lines (implied, the way the bows are angled away from the camera) lead the eye through the photo and gives depth.
Form – Shadows in the creases and edges of the shoe itself and the bows show the 3-D form of the objects. The hard lighting did not flatten the photo too much as it was coming from the side and the subject was further away from the window. This also helped to define the shape of the bow from that side and give form to the other side.
Shape – The recognizable and elegant shape of the bow adds interest to the photo.
Texture – The neat knotted texture of the bow makes it look “put together” and the detailing creates a delicate feel.
Value/tone – This photo has various tones of gray in it, including some blacks and whites too. I converted it to black and white to get rid of any other colours to emphasis the gray tones. This helped to add contrast to the photo.
Objective 4: Lighting
Type of lighting and why: I used direct side lighting to ensure strong contrast in the photo. The bright sunlight added lots more white to the photo than if I had shot somewhere with soft lighting. Also I wanted make the ray of sunlight to be noticeable.
Objective 5: Post Production (ex. dust/spot removal, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)
Corrections/adjustments made:
-resized for Flickr
-adjusted levels, highlights, and shadows to add contrast
-unsharp mask to define details and sharpen edges
-added signature (very subtle in the corner, so it doesn't compete with the focal point)
-small vignette border to soften edges
-removed a distracting spot on the focal point

OPERATIONAL OBJECTIVE CAMERA
The device on display is an element of the standard set of cameras and reconnaissance equipment carried by the SR-71 in the 1970s. It is a stereoscopic camera designed to photograph the ground under the aircraft's flight path. This produces a three dimensional image that greatly eases the identification of the objects that are photographed.
Its been a while since I have submitted anything on the forums and in fact last year since I went up a fell. However, with the Central Fells being this years Challenge objective and my personal objective being Standing Crag, I thought I would visit the centre of the Wainwright World once again. A place I have visited only once, in December 2012, which I coined Wainwright Central, a small rocky outcrop at grid ref NY289148. It happens to be quite close to Standing Crag. I had previously submitted a forum entry on this topic in 2012, but 4 years on I feel its time to re-visit this subject once again.
The following fells lay claim by AW to the most centrally situated, High Raise, Ullscarf and Armboth. In book three (High Raise 2) he says "It is usual to regard High Raise as Lakelands most centrally situated." He gives good argument why that should be the case, but he also addresses similar claims by Ullscarf and Armboth. In AW's day he did not have access to accurate grid references nor computers and like my initial efforts, probably adopted quite crude methods, with a ruler, map and a good eye. However, he also considered the geography of the area too, but concedes that "Armboth Fell seems even more deserving of the title." It turns out that Armboth is mathematically at least, the most centrally situated Wainwright Fell and I shall explain how I arrived at that conclusion.
How I came to determine Wainwright Central was borne out of a personal crusade. Whilst this may be of little importance to ordinary fell walkers, I am somewhat obsessive about facts and since the question had not be answered with certainty, I would find a way to work it out. I would provide a mathematical determination regardless of height or other considerations. The outcome would be, an absolute, indisputable truth. Does this matter? Not really, but for me at least, its worth the question.
Here is brief account of how I was able to determine Wainwright Central. I inputted three data sets of known Grid Refs for the 214 summits into a computer program, specifically designed to calculate the geographic midpoint of a series of co-ordinates. The results produced three grid refs, which were about 20m apart. In December 2012 I set out to visit NY 28971 14887, which was one of the grid references. The visit was more out of a sense of curiousity than anything else. Would there be anything there of interest?
A visit though, was not necessary, simply pinpointing the NY 28971 14887 on an OS map or in my case memory-map, clearly shows Armboth to be the nearest and therefore most centrally situated Wainwright Fell. So there it is ladies and gentlemen, the most central Wainwright Fell mathematically determined is Armboth. The next nearest candidates are High Tove followed by Ullscarf. High Raise is not even close, being some 5.39km south.
What of the place itself? Well Wainwright Central as I initially coined it, turns out to be just 63m from the Birkett, Watendlath Fell (Long Moss) with grid ref NY 28909 14862, described as "a flat rock with a fence passing over it". Its height is listed as 1690 ft which is identical, interestingly, to High Tove a mile to the North and is on the same ridge line. Because the points are just 63m apart I would have to declare that for all practical purpose Watendlath Fell (Long Moss) should be recognised as the centre of the 214 fells, being the highest and closest recognizable feature. It is a place that can be visited easily, lying about 500m from the northern tip of Blea Tarn and about 100m off the Watendlath to Wythburn track. If you follow the fenceline, due south from High Tove over Middle Crag and Shivery Knott you will walk right over it. Its not an exciting place, but it is certainly more exciting than the summit of Armboth or Mungrisedale Common and is marked by a high rocket-shaped formation of wooden fence-posts embedded on a rocky platform.
May I suggest, that should you be passing or nearby, you visit this place, take a photo, say a few words and ponder, that at this location you area the closest to all the 214 Wainwrights simultaneously, as you can ever be, truly at the heart of Wainwrights 214 fells. Views from here are good all round except due South, blocked by Ullscarf. For this reason it is easy to see why High Raise is usually regarded as the most centrally situated, offering better all round views, albeit 5.39 km further south. However, High Raise is actually 40m further south of Watendlath Fell than Helvellyn is east of it, which puts Helvellyn not only more centrally situated than High Raise, but because of its greater height offers better viewing.

I wonder if you have ever seen a caterpillar, walking on its little legs on a leaf. Have we ever asked ourselves, "Why should a caterpillar give up its existence as a caterpillar and become a butterfly?" Because its destiny is to be a butterfly! It is manifesting its own inherent nature when it transforms into a butterfly!!!

What is the meaning of the word 'Bha-ga-waan'? 'Bha' represents the divine effulgence. 'Ga' represents the quality of spreading and pervading. 'Waan' means the capacity and ability to spread and pervade. Hence, 'Bhagawan' means the only being with the capacity and ability to spread this brilliant effulgence. In fact, the Atma inside us is of this nature. However, man is unaware of this. Hence, the prayer "Thamaso Maa Jyotirgamaya" (lead us from the darkness of ignorance into the light of wisdom). This light of wisdom is essential for all humans.
