Soldiers of the 8th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry from the 32nd "Red Arrow" Legion of the Green Army take up defensive positions around a captured enemy weapon while awaiting an engineering unit to take control before continuing with their mission.
While in Ollantaytambo the first objective is to reach the Cachicata quarry located six km from Ollantaytambo and at an altitude of approximately 4,100 m. There, not only did the Incas extract the enormous stones, but they also partially carved them to be later lowered to the Vilcanota valley and from there, climbed them up a steep slope to the Ollantaytambo fortress. CACHICATA TREK INFORMATIONWe know from the tools that the Incas abandoned in the quarry that they used the same stone for extraction: granite and basalt hammers, obtained in the Vilcanota river. As for the transfer of the immense rocks, we do not stop questioning the time, the way and the enormous amount of people contributing their strength and ingenuity. There is no doubt that the Inca people were a construction expert. His numerous works that still endure in the Sacred Valley bear witness to this: the Coricancha, Sacsayhuamán, Ollantaytambo, Machupicchu, etc. Next to the quarry there are small constructions known as "CHULLPAS". The ones that we could see here are small towers with a circular base, built with stones joined with mortar of red clay and straw. These are funeral constructions that abound in the Altiplano of Peru and Bolivia. Those of Cachicata, due to their small size, served as a grave for a person, in which they generally placed the deceased in a fetal form along with some belongings. As we can see the illustrations present, they have a rectangular opening or entrance. And covered at the top. From this place, the view is recreated with the scenic picture in front of it. At our feet the wide plain crossed by the Vilcanota river, with its various green tones characteristic of these rainy months; to the front, the imposing peaks of the Andes, among which Veronica stands out fighting against the clouds to show her white hair. Our descent into the valley is made by the same ramp that the Incas used to slide the pink stone blocks. Along this journey, you can see how some of these stones did not reach their destination; they are known by the name of “Piedras Cansadas”. Already entered in the municipality of Ollantaytambo, we had two important archaeological-logical centers to visit: the city and its Inca fortress.MORE INFORMATION OF INCA QUARRY TREK

Another of popular request for Anxiety has been the need for some kind of way of sorting by task priority. This shot shows the new priority interface. Pretty simple; your top-priority tasks appear at the top of the list, and little indicators are displayed beside them (here, the top item has a "High" priority, the second has a "Medium" priority, the third has a "Low" priority, and subsequent items have no priority assigned to them).
This functionality will become available in the next update of Anxiety, which you can check for using the Check For Updates menu item under the application menu. Otherwise, Anxiety will automatically check for updates upon launching.

Objective 2: Creative Exposure
The camera mode (P, Tv, Av, M) and why I chose it: Chose P mode because it was all I knew at the time
f stop used: 5.6
shutter speed used: 1/400
ISO used and why: 100 because it was it was in natural lighting outdoors
Exposure compensation and why it was used: None (was not informed enough to use)
Focal length and why: 44.0mm to make the flowers stand out more opposed to the background (made them look much bigger than they were)
Objective 3: Elements and Principles of Design
Colour: The colour in this photo is very strong because the blue sky in the background makes the pinks stand out. It makes it a balance of both warm colours (from the flowers) and cool colours from the sky. This adds interest to the photo
Line: The lines in this photo are straight, diagonal lines created from the stems. This adds movement to the photo. There are also curved lines created by the petals which add beauty and a more relaxed feel of the photo. This feeling is also created by the subject itself because they are flowers which are usually beautiful, and calming.
Texture: The texture in this photo is created from the underneath of the flower (the green part) which has detailed fuzzy parts on it. This adds a small, fuzzy, soft looking texture that adds detail to the focal point and adds interest.
Space: The positive space in this photo is the three flowers that you can point out and the negative space is the blue sky in the background. The colour and simplicity of the negative space makes the flowers (positive space) stand out more and become the main focus of the photo.
Form: The form in this photo is created from the lighting. The sun is shining directly on the flowers and the photo is taken from underneath the flowers, this creates shadows coming through and around the petals and underneath the flowers which creates a 3D effect. The petals and flowers stand out more because of this and it adds interest to the photo.
Repetition/Pattern: The repetition in this photo is created from the repetition of petals on the flowers. This is the same shape repeated in the photo, which also adds to the texture and interest of the photo. Flower petals are something we recognize and generally have a good feeling about therefore the repetition of that draws your eye around the photo and adds interest.
Shape: The shape in this photo is created from the third flower in the background which creates a semi-circle with the edge of the photo. This draws the eye to this flower because we recognize circles right away since they are a common shape. This semi-circle adds beauty since it also creates a curved line.
Value/Tone: The values in this photo are the different greens on the stems created by the lighting. This makes certain areas darker and others lighter greens which adds interest. The other value is coming from the pinks and the lighting is also the factor of this. The way the light is coming from directly on top of the flower it, is shining through and makes certain pink areas stand out as bright and others as lighter areas. This adds interest because all the different colour values draw your eyes around the photo.
Emphasis: The emphasis in this photo is created because of the simple/uncluttered background and the bright colours. This all draws interest to the flowers, in particular the one on the right because it is the most in focus and therefore stands out most.
Unity: This photo has unity because everything goes well together. The three flowers are all the same kind and colour and since they are outside (where flowers usually are) it also adds to the unity. The blue sky in the background also adds to this because usually when you think of flowers you think of warm summery days which the blue sky demonstrates. The warm colours (the pinks) also add to the unity because of that. Unity makes the photo much stronger and easier to understand and look at, it draws people to the photo because it is structured, yet simple.
Movement: The movement in this photo is more implied rather than actually happening. It is created from the combination of all the elements and principals which draws your eye to the photo and moves you to look around the entire photo. This adds more interest and keeps the viewer eyes inside the photo constantly looking at different parts.
Balance: The balance in this photo is also more implied (not entirely symmetrical). However because of the placement of the flowers (one on each side and the other near the bottom) this adds balance and a feel of structure in the photo. The stems both going in the same direction and same slant also adds to the balance of the photo. Balance adds structure to the photo and interest because we tend to want to or have an easier time looking at “symmetrical” or balanced things rather than abstract/off balance things.
Contrast: The contrast in this photo is created by the lighting and a small amount added in Photoshop. The contrast is the difference between the light and dark areas in this photo, in this case the light and dark areas are both in the petals (which also adds to texture) and behind the stems. Contrast adds interest to this photo and form because it makes certain areas stand out more and the photo not look as flat or bland. This adds interest and also makes some of the colours stand out more as well.
Objective 4: Lighting
I chose to go outside to take these photos to have natural lighting and add to the unity since the flowers are also natural. I placed the flowers directly in the sun which make it hard direct lighting however since I took the photo looking up to the flowers the lighting was coming from the side and coming through the petals and stems. This wouldn’t work as well taking the picture from the top of the flower but since it was of the underneath of the flower it works very well in this photo. The lighting adds interest because you can tell that they are outside and the way it adds contrast, and different tones in the petals.
Objective 5: Post Production (ex. dust/spot removal, resize, contrast, white balance, sharpening, borders, etc.)
I sharpened this photo using unsharp mask to bring out the details around the right flowers stem and define the other edges in the photo. I also added some contrast using curves to darken and lighten some areas to add more interest and make some of the colours stand out more. Finally I resized to post to Flickr.
Objective 6: Critique
I think this photo was very successful because it contains all of the elements and principals in some way. All of these things together add interest and work together to create a great image. I also took this photo from a perspective that is not usually seen which makes it more interesting and since the lighting was coming through the petals it created nice colours and an interesting photo. If I were to shoot this again I would utilize the things I did not know about before such as Av mode and Exposure Compensation. This would give me more control over the aperture and changing the Exposure Compensation would allow me to change the really bright spots in the photo such as behind the right flower. All in all I think this photo was successful for shooting in P mode but could have been better if I were to shoot in Av mode to have more control.
Fort Vancia
Built between 1874 and 1878, Fort Vancia is part of the second defensive belt of the city of Lyon. France. Designed by General Séré de Rivières, the 14 forts, including Fort Vancia, served to protect the city from Prussian and Italian invasions. The secondary objective was to contain Lyon's uprisings such as the Canuts' Revolt (1831, 1834, and 1848).
Covered in vegetation, Fort Vancia is intentionally inconspicuous, cleverly concealed from potential attacks but high enough to overlook the Ain plains and potential enemies. The total area encompassing the land around the fort is 240,000 m² (24 hectares). 57,000 m² in the Rillieux-la-Pape area, 120,000 m² in the Sathonay-Village area, and the remaining 63,000 m² still belong to the French Army. The built-up area of 16,000 m² could accommodate 500 men in peacetime and up to 800 in wartime. The fort was equipped with an infirmary, two kitchens, a bakery with two bread ovens, two powder magazines, two stables, three wells, one of which is still in use, as well as numerous military units. During the Second World War, before the area was occupied by the Germans, the northern ditch surrounding the fort was used as a test bench for the first French liquid-fueled rocket, designed clandestinely in Lyon by Colonel Jean-Jacques Barré.
At the end of the war, the army quartered reservists and volunteers there, also serving as a training center for construction trades before welcoming troops leaving for Algeria in 1962. It was then the training ground for the 99th regiment of Sathonay-Camp and its reservists from the 299th until 1990. From 2002, the Fort opened to the public every year during the European Heritage Days, the 3rd weekend of September with guided tours, upon registration. Since 2015, the Vanci’Aventure company has offered treetop adventure courses in part of the Fort and on the walls of the moat for all ages. In 2016, the Joint Agricultural Exploitation Group ‘les pleurotes rhodaniennes’ moved into one of the barracks for mushroom production. Recently, following the restoration of the wood-fired ovens, the Fortnil company has been producing bread sold in local shops and markets. Today, the fort is home to seven other businesses and a woodcarving workshop. A flock of 30 sheep helps maintain the 50,000 m² of outdoor space.
I noticed that the 2-km promenade around Fort Vancia is particularly confortable by very hot days, being protected by the dense trees population rendering the fort completely invisible. The temperature could a few degrees less than elsewhere. The entrance courtyard is beautifully shaded by majestic plane tree where the cars could be left, protected from the intense sun.
For a second photo session on August 16, 2025 (also a very hot day), I brought along with me my backup Olympus OM-1 SLR camera (see below for details) fitted with its standard lens G.Zuiko Auto-S 1:1.4 f=50 mm. The lens was equipped either with a 49mm anti-UV protective filter or an orange one, plus an original Olympus OM-System soft shade hood. The camera was loaded with the novel black-and-white film Kentmere Pan 200 from Ilford Harman Technology Ltd, UK. The film integrate the Kentmere line of products with the yellow color between the Kentmere Pan 100 (cyan color) and the Kentmere Pan 400 (magenta color) with an intermediate sensitivity of 200 ISO. The emulsion is coated on a 0.125mm thick regular cellulose tri-acétate base, uncommonly very clear without the traditional grey or blueish anti-halo mask.
Frames were exposed following my external Minolta Autometer III either with its 10° selective viewer or the opalescent dome for incident metering (200 ISO with an anti-UV filter or 100 ISO with the orange filter).

After the last view exposed (Nr. 26), the film was developed iwith 350 mL of Adox Adonal developer (identical to the original Agfa Rodinal in its formula of 1891) prepared at the dilution 1+25 . The film was processed for 10 min at 20°C.
Digitizing was made using a Sony A7 camera (ILCE-7, 24MP) held on a Minolta macro Auto Bellow device fitted with Minolta Macro Bellow lens 1:3.5 f=50mm with the Minolta slide duplication accessory. The light source was a LED panel (approx. 4x5') CineStill Cine-lite.
The RAW files obtained were inverted within the latest version of Adobe Lightroom 14 (14.5, August 2025) and edited to the final jpeg pictures without intermediate file. They are presented either as print files with frame or the full size JPEG's possibly together with some documentary smartphone color pictures.

About the camera :
My Olympus OM-1 MD was purchased from a local photography shop in Lyon, France, May 31, 2022.
Olympus OM-1 MD was commercially available from 1974 to 1978 and represented the fully mechanical SLR of a new class ("miniature SLR's") , smaller and lighter than any other SLR's of that time. It prefigured the size of most of the SLR's of the 80's.
The kit included the normal lens G.Zuiko Auto-S 1:1.4 f=50 mm in perfect condition, a Zuiko Auto-Zoom 1:4 f=75-150 mm with Olympus original rigid case, a Sigma Tele-Macro x2 converter, a small flash Olympus PE200 (GN 14 at 100 ISO) with case, A Crystal Titanium x 0.48 wide-angle converter (still never tested), and several 49 mm filters.
This specific OM-1 MD was constructed in Jan. 1976 according to the printed reference "ス ("su ") 615" on the back of the film plate.
Recently, while checking the camera (as I do periodically), I found the body blocked with impossibility to cock the shutter with the advance lever while I did not notice any trouble during the last two films done with it during the last winter. I found from eBay in Germany a spare OM-1 body while waiting the response of my local repair service if my OM-1 could be salvaged or not. My backup OM-1 is in a very good condition. The CdS light meter is working but completely out of calibration. The focusing screen is very clean and has the horizontal stigmometer while the other OM-1 has a 45° tilted one. The light seals and mirror dampers were renewed by the seller.

For this I used an accented edges filter. +I think this filter works nicely with the photo itself. -It dies make the bottom background more blurry, but that might work to enhance the subject also. 20/20
