After a short snack by the Torver Beck I set off for Dow Crag via Brown Pike and Buck Pike. The cloud level had dropped as I sat by the Beck. So I took this shot of Dow Crag during a brief break in the clouds.
As I climbed, visibility got worse and I just hoped I would get some breaks in the cloud when I got up there. Sadly it was really claggy up on the tops and I got a fleeting break in the clouds just before I got to Buck Pike, which is the next shot.
One of my attempts at the "Smile on Saturday" theme "Observe the O".

Branch and his brothers burst through the blast doors of the separatist facility, charging into a flood of every unit in the separatist war machine and more. The seppies wanted a fight, and his blood was boiling for one. against the insurmountable odds, certain doom. The brothers charged into certain doom, or what would have been for normal men, but they weren't men, they were clones, arc troopers, and most importantly, brothers. "For the republic!" charging in, the clones shot, blasted and slashed at anything between them and victory for the republic.
The Zollverein Coal Mine Complex in Essen (More images in my series Zollverein) is one of the most impressive surviving examples of industrial culture from the modern era.
With their design of the central shaft facilities for Shaft XII, built between 1928 and 1932, Fritz Schupp and Martin Kremmer created the single most important part of the complex, both technically and architecturally. The industrial monument has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001.
The site of the Zollverein coal mine and coking plant stands symbolises industrial history and structural transformation in the economy. Here, Schupp and Kremmer created a high-performance industrial complex with clear aesthetics and a high degree of functionality. Symmetry, axiality and gradation of scale – the organising principles of the modernist formal idiom – came into their own here in a new context.
The curtain wall façades, designed in the style of New Objectivity (Neue Sachlichkeit) and made of a steel framework inset with clinker bricks, earned the colliery the reputation of being “the most beautiful coal mine in the world”, even back in its working days. Clearly visible from afar, the 55-metre-high double winding tower rises above the other buildings as an icon of mining architecture and a symbol for the entire Ruhr region. Years later, Fritz Schupp built the Zollverein Coking Plant, which went into operation in 1961, in the same style as the coal mine complex. In its day, the mine was regarded as the largest and most efficient one in the world. An era came to an end when the coal mine ceased operations in 1986 and the coking plant in 1993. A total of 600,000 people were employed here and coal was last extracted from a depth of 1,000 metres.
In the context of the International Building Exhibition (IBA) Emscher Park, the facility, which is protected as a historical monument, was promoted as a model project; the first phase of refurbishment began in 1989. Today, the Zollverein complex is the central anchor point of the Route of Industrial Heritage – a 400-kilometre-long trail along the industrial and cultural heritage of the Ruhr region. Based on a master plan by Rem Koolhaas and his firm OMA in collaboration with the architectural firm of Heinrich Böll, the site was transformed with conversions and new buildings by Norman Foster and SANAA into a site for culture, business and education. Today, the Zollverein is a popular tourist destination that is home to the Ruhr Museum, the Red Dot Design Museum, the Zollverein Monument Trail, and the new Folkwang University of the Arts with its design department, plus the studios and ateliers of four dozen creative companies.

Objective 3:
Pattern- This photo is an example of pattern because of the way the bricks are place on top and beside each other to help build the flower bed.
Texture- The texture in this photo is created by the angle that the bricks were shot at to make it so that you can see the details of the rocks and cement that make up the bricks.
Colour- This picture has colour because the bricks are different shades of red with the golden-yellow colour of the rocks.
Objective 4:
The lighting in this picture is fill lighting. This type of lighting contributes to the photo by making the snow whiter and bringing out the colour of bricks and rocks.
Objective 5:
For this image I didn't do a lot of editing, I just sharpened it a little and slightly increased the highlights.
Objective 6:
Strength- The areas of strength in this photo are the texture and colour in the bricks, and the brightness of the snow.
Area for growth- I feel like this photo would be better if it was taken at a slightly different angle and on a day that wasn't as cloudy.
I found this specimen dining on anthers in a small flowering shrub in my yard. While testing two stacked objectives salvaged from junk lenses I decided to check this particular bush which, during June... always has a variety of insects and spiders that make good test subjects. The most difficult part of getting this pic was trying to time things right to get legs, head, mandibles and antennae in a position that looked good. A dozen exposures were pretty bad, but this one had everything arranged OK.
Nikon D40, 105mm f/2.5 AI-S lens focused at infinity, with the objective from a junk Soligor 90-230mm reverse mounted on the 105mm, and an objective from an older Nikon 80-200mm lens (also reversed), mounted on the Soligor. Lighting was provided by the pop-up flash shot through a lens-mounted diffuser made from the plastic bowl that came in a frozen dinner.

" Shortly after we left the war torn planet of Atraken and returned to the Republic cruiser Endurance, I received my platoon's... or rather my next assignment. My orders were to select three troopers from my platoon and then report to the Internal Security Bureau on Coruscant. There we would be briefed on an under cover mission with the objective of infiltrating the bounty hunter guild which appeared to be thriving within Coruscant's lower levels. This mission would be dangerous probably the most dangerous one the Republic has thrown at the 253rd, we weren't going up against battle droids this time instead we would be going up against ruthless and trained killers. Originally I planned on going solo on this one, but I eventually agreeded to let Lucky tag along. After a quick visit to the Endurance's armory Lucky and I no longer looked like the disciplined faceless soldiers we were meant to be. Instead of our standard shiny white armor we wore a mix of cloth and steel.
It was here in the armory where an angry Rook confronted me about me decision to bench the rest of the platoon. Though no matter how compelling his argument was my decision stayed the same. We had just barley made it off Atraken without a signal casualtie and there was no way in hell that I was going to risk loosing anyone on the Republic's homeworld..."

The Organization of Cape Verdean Women (OMCV) in partnership with the Cape Verdean Institute for Gender Equality and Equity (ICIEG) and other partners announced on Sunday, March 7th in the City of Assomada, the main commemorative event of International Women's Day under the motto Djuntu na Paz, nu kombati violênsia na Cabo Verde (Together in Peace, in the fight against violence in Cape Verde).
The opening ceremony was co-chaired by His Excellency the Prime Minister, Jose Maria Neves and the UN System Resident Coordinator, Mrs. Petra Lantz and was also attended by the US Ambassador, Government representatives, and representatives of local municipalities, among others.
Celebrating International Women's Day we know that we join thousands of people around the world, to celebrate a date that marked the world 100 years ago. It is celebrated worldwide this year under the motto Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities: Progress for All.
At the same time, the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action is celebrated. In 1995 during the IV World Conference on Women, world leaders committed themselves to promote equality, development and peace to women around the world.
The Beijing Declaration remains as current as it was 15 years ago: as long as women are not liberated from poverty and injustice all the objectives for which we work – peace, security and sustainable development - will be threatened. There are several examples of progress, although gender stereotyping and discrimination based on gender persist in all cultures and communities.
The International Women's Day is an opportunity to make a critical review of the successes achieved over the past 15 years, which are not few, and to take stock on how to achieve what is missing.
In Cape Verde a lot has been done since the independence in favor of women, allowing to create a favorable environment for increased participation of women, and to contribute to the development of the country. Great results have been achieved with emphasis on education, health, and political participation of women over the last years. Highlighting at the government level, among the ministers, eight are women.
However, it cannot be said that women have achieved the same equality as men, to emphasize the important achievements in favor of women in Cape Verde and thereby stimulate and continue this struggle. Because social ills still persist, such as unemployment, extreme poverty which affects mostly female heads of households, and the violence against women, that are in flagrant contradiction with the promise contained in the Charter of the United Nations "to promote the social progress and better standards of life in a broader concept of freedom".
The consequences of the violence for women and girls as well as to their families, communities and societies are incalculable. Too often the crimes are unpunished and the criminals go free. In this context the States have the responsibility to protect women and punish their aggressors, ensuring a continuing improvement of judicial processes.
With increasing frequency, men manifest themselves against this blot in our society. It is not easy to change mentalities and habits that endure for generations. It is a task for all – individuals, organizations and governments. We should work together to declare, loud and clear at the highest level, that violence against women will not be tolerated, whatever form it takes, the context in which it occurs and the circumstances that surround it.
Recognizing this fact, the African Union at the Conference of 15-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action that was celebrated in March 2010 in New York, launched the African Women's Decade 2010-2020, reaffirming the commitment assumed since the Dakar and Beijing conferences and the resolutions on gender equality and women empowerment taken by the Assembly of the African Union, to accelerate the achievement of results set out in the Millennium Development Goals.
