This bunker Navigation Station Groningen (NS G) of the Royal Air Force in the years of the cold war is on defense area north of the village Marsum. The complex comprises seven bunkers built between 1953 and 1958. The aim was to detect and track aircraft in the northern area. The bunker has cavity walls and is built largely underground. The complex had its own generators and water supply. In case of any breach of the dikes it could be still talking 2 to 3 months though (all entrances to the bunkers are at least 1.5 meters above sea level). Accounted for about 1,800 telephone lines connected to the outside world.

After 1964, the complex was dismantled. The inventory was removed and transferred to Schöppingen in Germany. But all the bunkers are still there.

When the Navigation Station was operational on the aboveground bunkers stood the radar antennas. The information on the situation in the air (up to Berlin) was collected. In the command bunker dozens of men were processing the data. The whole complex had a maximum occupancy of 378 men. (source: RTVnoord.nl)

Everything here was found, except for the tiki lights. The broken planter moved with us from the old apartment (found broken in the bushes). Notice her missing heads are above the fountain. All the tools were found here at the new house.

This intriguing brass doorlike object was passed down my family. It was probably made by my great great great grandfather, Henry William GEORGE (1811-1887) who worked as a tinman/whitesmith/brazier at the Gogmore Lane Foundry in Chertsey, Surrey.

I left this key hanging on the door when I went out. Then took a picture with a macro mode.
