"Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living, it's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities."
- Dr.Seuss
Just some doodles from my little pocket moleskine again. Copic marker, copic multiliner, little christmas candle standing on the counter at work and the entrance to the building where I work.
in the grounds of the palace of fine arts, san francisco, a cool but sunny day in july (they have natural air-conditioning down in the bay, not like in davis)
july 28, .01 copic multiliner, cotman watercolour, moleskine
I don't like how I did the inking here, but I was happy to do something simpler and more understated.
Greedy rabbit.

I had no idea that I was going to draw a dragonfly on this page. I was actually thinking about the road trip prompt (from Natty's Malik's In The Sun Art Journal course), but the splatters of paint looked like the wings and body of a dragonfly, so I decided to see if I could draw a dragonfly.
I found a picture of a dragonfly online to use as a reference, did the outline in pencil, then used Prismacolor pencils to color it in, making sure to leave the wings translucent. I added the outline and detailing with a Copic Multiliner pen, which I have never busted out in my art journal before... oh, man, what I've been missing!
I wrote the work flight using a Shinhan Touch Twin marker (the poor woman's Copic) and then colored over it with silver to add shimmer. [Not sure if you can see that in the picture or not.] I wanted to add more text, so I looked for a quote with the word "flight" in it, and found this one:
"For once you have tasted flight you will walk to the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci
I finished the page by adding black panpastel all around the edge. I might go back in with a white gel pen for highlights, but I haven't decided yet, so I figured I'd post it anyway.
Here, I tried to draw transparent ball, resting on the white matte surface with a horizon line, lit by a diffused source of light (like a matte ball lamp). I'm not really sure about shadow size, if it is large enough, but to me it looks natural.
To draw it, I used Copic Multiliner pens, 0.03 and 0.1 for the horizon line. I think, larger nib gives some feeling of a grainy texture, when compared to three times finer one.
I'm working on an Art journal of Blythe Doll illustrations and concept designs. Copic Multiliners and Copic Markers.

Rapidosketch 0.25 mm works ok, but its stainless steel nib does not feel as smooth as a disposable Prismacolor Premier fine liner marker or Copic Multiliner. Ink provided is waterproof, so watercolor washes can be applied safely once dry . Blog entry

I drew the drink I had with my lunch, then we walked the other way from the ferry terminal and I drew a little wharf with some interesting hardware on it. They came and released water spurting from the ends of the white pipes. There was a No Fishing sign, though it was out of range of my drawing. 30th Worldwide Sketchcrawl afternoon.

what you do in the darkness of your mind
what happens in the light of day
which is true
from cancer to capricorn
is only part of who i am

A few scribbles to show what it does. Plenty variation available, but not much good for solid straight lines.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

First week in "Sketchbook Skool" with Danny Gregory, we begin to practice documenting our lives by drawing objects directly in ink, and then adding a bit of color.
An evening dinner and performace of Thai dancing. The large gold decoration was on our table. The dancers tall gold helmets seemed to go well with it.

a drop of red ink in water
sinks in a dance of
swirling diffusion
as it hits bottom
the liquid blushes
