Yesterday it was my turn to mind the gallery where our exhibition of artists' books is on. I thought I should take something to do, so I took my sketchbook. This is the gallery.

I bought my very first set of copic markers and copic multiliner. It's my Christmas prezzie to myself and I am like a child with a new toy! Love love love them to bits! I did small little practice drawings on different papers to test them. Also bought a new 2012 Moleskine Daily Planner. I am planning to use my Copics in it.

This is one of 3 drawings where I used Tombow brush pens for the background color (much, much brighter than the scan), and then did the zen wtih Pentel Slicci & Copic multiliner SPs. I wanted to see how much difference there would be in the results & the scans. The Orange is the only color that is close to true. I wish I'd used it on the other two papers.

The symbol of the square denotes, honesty, straightforwardness, stability, integrity and morality and the four sacred elements, earth – air – fire – water.

The union of the Square and the Circle is the union of Yin and Yang, Heaven and Earth, and also symbolises the perfectly balanced human.

These Prismacolor Premier pigment liner pens are bound to please if you are a fan of Japanese pens. Yup, they are also made in Japan. No wonder they feel so sturdy and glide so smoothly on the paper. Similar performance to the costlier Copic Multiliner SP pens which I reserve for studio duty. It's nice to have such a reasonably priced quality set in a portable sketching kit. You can draw a variety of lines anywhere without having to worry about losing precious tools accidentally. Blog entry: robotninjamonsters.blogspot.com/2008/12/review-of-prismac...

Bought a set of Copic Multiliner pens to replace my old Rapidiograph pens. I decided to test them out drawing some ACEO cards. I like the Copics much better.

I had no idea that I was going to draw a dragonfly on this page. I was actually thinking about the road trip prompt (from Natty's Malik's In The Sun Art Journal course), but the splatters of paint looked like the wings and body of a dragonfly, so I decided to see if I could draw a dragonfly.

I found a picture of a dragonfly online to use as a reference, did the outline in pencil, then used Prismacolor pencils to color it in, making sure to leave the wings translucent. I added the outline and detailing with a Copic Multiliner pen, which I have never busted out in my art journal before... oh, man, what I've been missing!

I wrote the work flight using a Shinhan Touch Twin marker (the poor woman's Copic) and then colored over it with silver to add shimmer. [Not sure if you can see that in the picture or not.] I wanted to add more text, so I looked for a quote with the word "flight" in it, and found this one:

"For once you have tasted flight you will walk to the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." - Leonardo da Vinci

I finished the page by adding black panpastel all around the edge. I might go back in with a white gel pen for highlights, but I haven't decided yet, so I figured I'd post it anyway.

Finally some proper portraits :) I've been trying to get some done and I think its about time.

This is Sarah my older sister, she's already appeared previously on here and was also the severed body on the dressing table of last year's exam final peice.

The performance of my studio setup is just not funny any more, Im getting 4 out of five shots as misfires most of the time and then sometimes it will give me only 1 out of 5 when it feels like it. However Im not sure if it's the cactus trigger's fault anymore, as the shutter is pressed, the transmission is sent, strobes fire but the shutter curtain seems out of sync which rises a much much more expensive fix :( I simply cant trust whatever it is causing the problem during shoots and is very restrictive as I missed some really nice shots because of a bad sync :-/

On the bright side I can almost always nail the exposure every time now in my room when I set up the strobes, practise makes perfect :)

I've also ordered some new pens, prob means nothing to you all but Ive had my eye on these for a while. Pentel pocket brush pen,Faber Castell PITT brush pen, Copic Multiliner SP 0.3 (to accompany my 0.7) and a little Sharpie twin tip because I've always wanted a sharpie :)

All black and all waterproof so I can use them for my watercolour work! :)

Today was the last day of the half-term break, photographically it was immense! Two major whole days of shooting and this relatively productive shoot too gave me a load of shots which Im really happy with. As far as coursework goes though Art is doing good, still on track. ICT is an ever-growing hole of paperwork which Im really trying to do but just get frustrated with. I think from now until May everyone in my year show signs of moving towards the carreer/education area they will be pursuing. For me that means saying goodbye to ICT which I will be glad of tbh. Suprisingly I will sort of miss Biology even though it was my 'throw in' subject. It gave me an art project and a practical understanding of stuff that break or come in contact with me on a daily basis which I think is great :) I have to start taking pictures of some of the people at school more, these last few months will be the last I will see of most of them.
