The Yachting Association Of India (YAI) celebrated its Golden Jubilee with a mega sailing event-the 'Ocean Blue Multi Classes Regatta 2009' under the aegis of Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre.
This event assumed significance as it was the first of the selection trials for the Asian Championships and Asian Games to be held next year.
The event was sailed in all the Asian Games Classes and over 200 competitors competed to combat against each other and the pre monsoon conditions of Mumbai harbour in a quest to attain top honours at National Level.
The event was raced in two formats, Match Racing and Fleet Racing.
In Match Racing the races are short and two boats are pitted against each other in races that last for 15-20 minutes. This is the format that is used in the America's Cup and is getting extremely popular all around the world. This was included as an Asian Games Class of racing in the Open category and an Olympic Class in the Women's category.
The event was conducted in the J 24 class of boats with a total complement of 4 persons on board. Considering that the boats have been perfectly matched and are provided to competitors, only skill and talent of the teams were put to test.
The Fleet Racing event was a visual treat for spectators with over 100 boats on the water ranging from the small and versatile Optimist Class sailed by children under 15 years of age to the colourful catamaran Hobie 16 class which zipped around the course with its crew on trapezes. Due to the large number of diverse classes competed in the event which is also the criteria for selection of Indian Teams the racing was carried out on three race courses concurrently in the harbour. The diverse classes in which races that were held are The Laser (Asian Games and Olympic Class), Laser Radial Open (Asian Games and Women's Olympic Class), Laser 4.7 (Asian Games Youth Class) and Windsurfing (Asian Games and Olympic Class).
Something different. I took my camera to my son's Graduation ceremony, and found this group. I loved the colours of the head-scarves and the coming together of the Islamic tradition with the Oxford tradition of this old and venerable university.
Or, as some call this, an MTmini.
Materials (including camera) were provided by my lovely friends at CanTouch. It was built with some help from my sister, who's an extremely gifted crafter/maker and has a kick-ass workshop.
On my Mac, I can read this thing's output and process it using BBTouch. From there I make use of the Reactable team's TUIO library for Processing to prototype stuff.
Visual output is on my Mac's screen, so it's not a true multi-touch interface, but it's enough to experiment with things. Once I have something running I'd be able to simply load it on a proper table and really play with it.

An Exhibition at Wigan & Leigh School of Art
Parsin’s Walk, Wigan, WN1 1RS
Tuesday, 19th November - 19th December 2008.
This is a touring show that highlights the art of Geeta Rao a former student of Wigan &Leigh School of Art in Photography and also a popular life model. Geeta went on to study at the University of Central Lancashire, where she completed a BA honours in Photography. She was tragically murdered in February 2008, during a year’s sabbatical from an MA in Fine Art at the UCLAN.
Geeta was one of those people with an infectious smile. As a daughter, mother, artist and friend, she wore many hats and was a classic multi-tasker, with effortless enthusiasm for life. She had the ability to touch the lives of many people and make them feel as though they where the only person in a room.
This exhibition at the Wigan & Leigh school of Art is funded by UCLAN. The aim of this show is to celebrate Geeta’s achievements, her contribution to the world as an Artist, and to mark the loss of one so bright and selfless.
This exhibition was first shown in October 1st -10th 2008 at the PR1 Gallery Preston. It has evolved through working closely with her family, and a selection of her friends and associates has supported the project in various ways: as such, they were instrumental in the success of the project. As a personal friend of Geeta’s, I have tried to honour her in my own small way by acting as the curator of this show.

A retrospect of Geeta Rao is dedicated to her mother Leela Rao, 73, who passed away early this August. She survived the attack on her life in February that claimed her daughter, but never recovered from the trauma and loss.
