Operation AVRO is a forcewide initiative that delivers a surge of extra resources and specialist officers to a different district within Greater Manchester each month.
This month saw the operation return to Wigan.
The operation targets crimes that members of the public in that district have told us give them the most concern.
Members of the press and key partners, including local representatives, are invited to attend Operation AVRO deployments to see results first-hand and conduct important multi-agency work, such as welfare visits.
More details on AVRO can be found by visiting gmp.police.uk and following us on social media.
You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.
Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.
You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to go to court or give a statement.
You can access many of our services online at www.gmp.police.uk
PLEASE, no multi invitations, glitters or self promotion in your comments, THEY WILL BE DELETED. My photos are FREE for anyone to use, just give me credit and it would be nice if you let me know, thanks - NONE OF MY PICTURES ARE HDR.
The Queen's Wharf Lighthouse (also known as the Fleet Street Lighthouse, after its current location) is located at Fleet Street just east of the Princes' Gates at the Exhibition Place Grounds in Toronto.
The octagonal building was originally part of a pair of lighthouses built in 1861 at Queen's Wharf, replacing an earlier lighthouse originally built in 1838. The 11m (36ft) three-storey wood structure is one of two major lighthouses in Toronto harbour.
The building is a bare frame structure, and was never meant to be used as a dwelling by a lighthouse keeper. It currently sits at the edge of a small park about one block north from the current shoreline, and is contained within a small Toronto Transit Commission streetcar loop.

At Montserrat on our afternoon optional tour on my Cosmos tour, October 14, 2012.
Montserrat is a multi-peaked mountain located near the city of Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the Catalan Pre-Coastal Range. The main peaks are Sant Jeroni (1,236 m), Montgrós (1,120 m) and Miranda de les Agulles (903 m). The mountain is the namesake for the Caribbean island of Montserrat. Montserrat is sometimes referred to as "tall", or "la cuchador" (the spork).
It is well known as the site of the Benedictine abbey, Santa Maria de Montserrat, which hosts the Virgin of Montserrat sanctuary and which is identified by some with the location of the Holy Grail in Arthurian myth.
"Montserrat" literally means "saw (serrated, like the common handsaw) mountain" in Catalan. It describes its peculiar aspect with multitude of rock formations which are visible from a great distance. The mountain is composed of strikingly pink conglomerate, a form of sedimentary rock. Montserrat is Spain's first National Park.

Fire Fighters had not even picked up from the roof fire on the apartment building at Oakville Ave when calls came in for a possible structure fire at 80-82 Fox St. Multiple calls from occupants and neighbors reported fire coming from the roof and possibly two third floor residents trapped. Engine and ladder companies had to respond accross the city due to the resources tied up at the earlier fire and when the first companies arrived they found heavy fire pushing through the roof and attic vent of a two story wood frame occupied multiple dwelling. Crews quickly stretched in and Truck 3 set up it's ladder. As they aggressively battled the fire from the interior other fire fighter ran a primary search to try and fine the third floor resident. The lifeless male victim was quickly found and removed by fire fighters in a stokes basket. AMR medics treated and transported the man to Waterbury Hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival. While this was happening fire fighters were performing a secondary search for the possible second victim as the main body of fire darkened down. It was determined that the other missing resident was not home at the time of the fire. Fire marshals as well as the Waterbury Police Department's Detective Divison were called to investigate the fatal blaze.
Here is a friend doing a jump in the Terrain Park so I can learn a new, Tom Bol (www.tombolphoto.com ), technique. Tom has a Kelbytraining video that explains how he does this. On this shot, there are 14 sequential images taken at high speed by the D4 sitting on a tripod so the background is consistent in each image. Then, the images are brought into CS6 as layers, with the first layer being the image that contains the first ski image on the left. The remaining images are all black layer masks and then you paint in white to reveal each capture of the skier. Tom explains it better than I can but it looks something like this.

The buildings of Suomenlinna date mainly from the end of 18th century, the Swedish era, and 19th century Russian era. Only a few buildings have been constructed during the Finnish period. The old buildings are in use as homes, offices, maintenance buildings and service points.

Phottix have just released a new and improved Strato flash trigger - called the Strato II Multi.
It now supports groups, so you can assign any receiver to any one of 4 groups (A,B,C,D), and select one or more groups on the transmitter.
As with the Strato 4-in-1, the new Strato II Multi supports TTL pass-through, allowing you to mount another flash or ST-E2 on the transmitter's hotshoe with full TTL support.
For more info, read my review of the Phottix Strato II Multi.
(strobist info: 580EX at top right, 430EX at top left, triggered by 580EX II on hotshoe)

Wikipedia says:
Kuntur Wasi (Quechua kuntur condor, wasi house, "condor house") is the name given to the ruins of a religious center with complex architecture and stone sculptures, located in the Andean highlands of Peru.
It is believed the inhabitants had a link with the Chavín culture.
Kuntur Wasi is located in the Northern Mountain Range of Peru, specifically at the headwaters of the Jequetepeque River, in the region of the city of Cajamarca near the small town of San Pablo. The Jequetepeque valley provided a transportation corridor between the coastal region and the highlands.
Kuntur Wasi was a center where people congregated.
It is thought to have been constructed around 1000-700 BCE, during the Initial Period. The architecture consists of a hill-top temple, quadrangular platforms, a sunken courtyard, and series of rooms.
In the floor of one room there is an anthropomorphic figure made of clay, about 30 inches (75 cm) in height. It is painted with cinnabar red, malachite green, and black, yellow, and pink. Its face has big square eyes and a wide mouth with prominent canine teeth. There are also stepped platforms and funeral structures.
Lithosculptures have been found, similar to the Chavín style.
Kuntur Wasi was occupied between the years 1200-50 BC.
It was first discovered in 1945 by Julio C. Tello. In 1989, scientists from the University of Tokyo excavated four tombs at Kuntur Wasi. Valuable items, such as pectoral necklaces (decorative breastplates), gold crowns, ornamental stone beads, earrings, sets of dishes and iconographies of people were discovered in the burial area.
Since the beginning of the University of Tokyo's archaeological mission, eight tombs have been found in the area.
The Kuntur Wasi Museum, managed by local citizens, opened in 1994.
---------------
