I love the colors of autumn - and none is brighter than maple leaves. Today we had that bright blue sky that only seems to come in the fall, and the red leaves looked particularly bright against the blue.

at my mom's house. Cut down as soon as the house was sold. It was a single huge Maple tree that split into several trunks. At a branch of one of these trunks, ever so high up, there were the remains of a chain that had once held a swing that predated the house which was built in 1962. Indeed, the chain was so high up, it must have been there forever before I ever saw it as a child. It always fascinated me.

Students in Whitman's Winter Study course on landscape photography took these photos and created this tribute to the tree.
The course, "Landscape Photography," broadens students' appreciation for the appearance and history of the landscape and teaches the skills of making a successful photograph.
