The Nancy Brown Peace Carillon Tower has an interesting history.

The 98-foot (30m) tower on Belle Isle was constructed in 1939. Nancy Brown (a pen name of Annie Louise Brown) was an advice column writer for The Detroit News. She had a large following, and she held Sunday services on Belle Isle. The tower was funded by small donations, mainly from Nancy's fans and friends. An estimated 50,000 people attended the dedication of the tower in 1940.

Bells were never installed in the tower, but a sound system played patriotic and inspirational songs, and chimes sounded on the hour. New chimes were installed in 2003.

Belle Isle, an island in the Detroit River, is currently a Michigan State Park. The water shown in the picture is a part of a canal system on the island.

Taken on a beautiful October day. The color of the tree is not enhanced, it was actually this gorgeous shade of red!

Maple Trees Leaves in the Fall.

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple. When I took this photo, it was still mid autumn, so there were only some reds amongst the greens, which made they especially noticeable and attractive.

The day I took this photo was a lovely and sunny day with bright blue skies, one of many we had here in early and mid autumn. Now it is winter here, and very grey and overcast, so I felt a burst of colour was in order for today.

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple, one of my favourites, which I have been visiting regularly on my walks over the last few weeks. It is now ablaze with beautiful reds, oranges and golds! And all too soon this autumnal ephemera will be gone until next year.

The day I took this photo was a lovely and sunny day with bright blue skies, although there was a crispness in the air. I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions, as rain arrived the day after.

All the color is gone now, but it's hard to forget the brilliance of a beautiful fall day.

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour throughout the city, like these maple leaves on a tree in the inner suburb of Fitzroy, which are quickly gaining the rich gold, orange and red tones of the season.

It seems that Melbourne is destined for an early and gloriously colourful autumnal blaze of colour this year, following a shorter and wetter than usual summer. I love this time of year for not only are Autumnal colours are starting to appear, but there are still plenty of beautiful blooms about.

It is written on the arched sky.. it looks out from every star. It is the poetry of Nature.. it is that which uplifts the spirit within us.

27:52 - Leaves

Live in moments that consume your heart and mind, but be distracted by the music from the leaves, birds, wind, rain, sun and people.

A summer's drive brought me upon this path of old ragged maple trees clinging to their existence like soldiers... and beckoning me to do so also... That one encounter altered my current feelings about life and resiliency and gave me renewed hope...

When I was a child, I was told by my beloved grandparents that the winged seed pods of English maple trees were translucent faerie wings waiting to be collected by their new owners.

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple. When I took this photo, it was still mid autumn, and it was a perfect autumnal day in Melbourne: sunny, but not too bright, warm, but not hot, and perfectly still. Therefore I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions and take some photographs. As it was, this is just one of hundreds that I took.

As it is a very wintery and rainy day today, grey and overcast, I thought I would brighten things up with a bit of colour.

I think that autumn is often the best season for leaves. Whilst we all enjoy seeing new leaves in spring after the barren season of winter, it is in autumn that we get to notice all the fine veining, delicate textures and sharp edges of the leaves as they change colour and array themselves in their autumnal costumes of reds, browns, oranges and golds.

Autumn is now well and truly with us here in Melbourne, and the cooler winds of seasonal change are blowing away the remnants of summer, like it tosses the red, gold and orange leaves that carpet the ground.

The other day was a perfect autumnal day in Melbourne: sunny, but not too bright, warm, but not hot, and perfectly still. Therefore I thought I'd go for a walk and take advantage of the sunny conditions and take some photographs. This includes this wonderful golden orange and red English maple leaf which was hanging, just waiting for me to photograph.

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple, one of my favourites, which I caught as it is starting to turn one on my walk not so long ago. These two tiny red leaves reminded me of a pair of siblings rather like the pair in the faerie tales by the Brothers Grimm, "Little Brother, Little Sister" or "Hansel and Grethel".

I made this image with my Pentax 150-450mm lens and Pentax K3III camera. There was a long distance across this swampy lake. We spent the day driving around central Wisconsin, looking for fall colors. This is some of what we saw.

The color doesn't last long!

...are slow and sad', a song by Weezer, rock band formed in LA in 1992. (Just watched them virtually in concert)

Actually, all was not sad. I loved walking in the rain yesterday to capture the glowing red maple leaves before they disappear. I've not tampered with the hues. The cloudy, rainy day did everything for me.

I won't post the rest of the shots. I hope to print some to tape to my bathroom mirror to brighten wintry days. So glad most of our trees survived the unusual summer heat.

This leaf, hanging on its own, really stood out in nature's spotlight - bright and glorious red!

A Vermont country dirt road is lined with gorgeous autumn trees.

The other day was a perfect autumnal day in Melbourne: sunny, but not too bright, warm, but not hot, and perfectly still. This includes these wonderful golden yellow and red English maple leaves which were hanging, catching the light.

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this one which I found in the inner Melbourne suburb of North Fitzroy. This leaf may be a little tattered and torn, but it is still beautiful. It reminded me of the line from the very old children’s nursery rhyme “Hark! Hark! The Dogs Do Bark” which talks about the beggars coming to town, with “some in tags, some in rags and some in velvet gowns”. Which of those do you think this leaf is?

Autumn in Melbourne is always beautiful, with many wonderful deciduous trees full of colour like this Japanese Maple, one of my favourites, which I have been visiting regularly on my walks over the last few months. In late autumn, when I took this photo, it suddenly changed colour, going from green to rich velvety reds like this leaf, very quickly. All too soon it was ablaze with the last of its beautiful reds, oranges and golds.

Sometimes a horrible photo is just so much fun that you can't throw it away. I was on my way to get something out of my car at 11pm last night and was using the light on my phone to find my way without running into any wildlife when I heard the chatter of tiny voices. I looked up into the massive maple tree in our yard and saw five little bandits watching me. By the time I took this shot with my phone four had climbed high into the tree. This little brave and curious one stayed put to get a better look at this strange human lurking around in the dark.

Lovely morning on a country road.
