We went to Howell Living Farm today to check out maple sugaring, tapping the trees, and other delights of the farm.

November wrapped up with some foggy mornings and another drop in the temperature. This foggy morning was pretty.

I love the autumn colors you get to see in Japan.. it's so much more vivid than the muddy brownish grey of Germany.
This particular japanese maple tree is called "beni maiko". When leaves come out in spring they are a vivid red, and they turn to green when summer approaches.
Long Valley near Pomfret, Vermont. It's a awe inspiring view with the late waning shadows of sunlight.

Unfortunately we lost the maple tree in our garden this Monday - Some kind of disease called Maple Wilt - the disease starts in the root system and spreads up through the sapwood into the upper branches of the tree, causing big limbs to start dying back.
I wasn't sure about this at first because the leaf was really waving in the wind which caused the blur. But now that I really look at it I like it a lot because of the light. :o)
