While visiting Mount Vernon with the government shut down in October 2013, there was only one tree that was changing color.
Maple Leaf Pasta Shells
This composition of pasta shells kept reminding of a maple leaf and once that thought takes hold, it's hard to shake.
Storm Dennis kept me indoors so macro work on the kitchen table passed the time.
Kubota Garden has a number of Japanese Maples planted before the garden was transferred to the city of Seattle. Most are quite large. The garden has been a public park since 1987. I go and check on them a couple times a year.
Not exactly sure what it is about these small trees that I find so intriguing, but every time I visit my local garden center with my camera, I find myself drawn to them. Perhaps it's the rich color of the leaves, or even how delicate they seem in a slight breeze. I wish I had one in my yard, but they are expensive and my yard is not that big. In any case, this shot provided me with a very interesting bokeh.

I visited the Seattle Japanese Garden in search of colorful foliage. The amazing tree at the entrance to the garden never fails to deliver!

Our first snow came while trees still held some of their fall leaves. High winds during the storm brought down more leaves. Rain throughout the morning erased most of the snow, leaving mottled pockets of snow and bare ground.
