There are several of these beautiful red maples at Jouken-ji (常堅寺). Just as pretty as the Fall variety!
The base off the tree. It is surround by fallen leaves. The tree stump is elevated by about 15 inches. Moss and mushrooms can be seen on stump. The Red maple is growing on something that looks like a bump in the ground. It is elevated about 12-14 inches over trees and plants in a the area within about 4-6 feet. The interesting thing is there is a lot of growing trees on this elevated bump. A lot more then other areas in this location
Kimono for a woman (kosode), 1660-80
The sartorial self-assurance of the merchant class found expression in the striking class found expression in the striking styles of the late 17th century. Kimono from this period are characterised by large motifs, often employed in unusual ways.
Maples floating on water is a common design, but on this summer garment, the 'water' is actually the woodgrain of framed prayer tablets.

Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk

This exhibition will present the kimono as a dynamic and constantly evolving icon of fashion, revealing the sartorial, aesthetic and social significance of the garment from the 1660s to the present day, both in Japan and the rest of the world.
The ultimate symbol of Japan, the kimono is often perceived as traditional, timeless and unchanging. Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalk, the UK's first major exhibition on kimono, counters this conception, presenting the garment as a dynamic and constantly evolving icon of fashion.
