This image, like the previous one, will be part of "reportage story" I have in preparation and will be titled "Stolen Innocence." The image and the result of a happy ending after a child who suffered beatings and abuse with violence and deprivation of food has recovered and is waiting to go live with another family.

I wanted to renew the warm thanks to the wonderful and friendly tutor who was very kind and helpful which I appreciated very much especially the love with which they carry out their commitment to children and a special thank you also and especially to Mother Sister Serafina.

L’innocenza rubata

.

In quel mondo in cui tu vivevi,

dove ostili erano pure i sorrisi,

c’era quella gente che tu credevi,

ti potessero essere….vicini.

Non c’erano carezze, ne baci,

ne abbracci e momenti belli, ma

di quel tenero amor preteso, erano

spesso solo torture e strazianti spaventi.

Stolen Innocence

.

In that world where you lived,

where the smiles were even hostile,

was that people who you believed,

you could be. ... neighbors.

There were no stroke, kisses it,

it hugs and good times, but

of that tender love demanded, were

often only torture and agonizing fears.

But suddenly those beautiful colors, that

gleamed with your candid thoughts

vanished from your delicate and palpitating heart,

sinking into your silent cries of pain.

The bitter your fate, for many near you,

unfortunately, is to duty, or be

a small, helpless and fragile child,

which ripped, stolen innocence is

under the eyes, often full of indifference.

The snow bunting is a medium size passerine bird. This passerine is a ground-dwelling species that walks, runs and could potentially jump if needed. It is fairly large and long-winged for a bunting. It measures 15 cm with a wingspan of 32–38 cm (13–15 in) and weights 30 to 40 grams. The bill is yellow with a black tip, and is all black in summer for males. The plumage is white in the underparts and the wings and back have black and white on them. The female and male have a different plumage.

From tea bag to finished cup - four images.

This image started out as baking a cake, but after some thought the cake was replaced by a cup of tea. I set the cup/saucer up on a black velvet board and mounted my camera on a sturdy tripod looking down on the cup/saucer.

image taken with a Canon 5D mounted on a Manfrotto 055CB Professional Tripod. Two Canon 580EX flashes were used one on each side of the cup and saucer. Both flashes diffused to avoid hot spots on the ceramic, water etc. I set up the cup on the saucer a little off centre because I felt this looked more pleasing.

My first shot of the cup & tea bag was done quite leisurely but the fun started when the water started to pour. Taking the other three images kettle/milk/spoon took about 45 seconds to do, because I wanted to ensure that the water was hot out of the kettle (though not too hot that it sent steam up to my camera!!!). Hot water meant that the tea bag would do it's stuff properly and that I would get effects like the condensation on the side of the cup as seen in the image with the milk.

Even though I had less than a minute to take these images I still managed to get a range of images at each stage so that afterwards I could choose an image that I wanted. I eventually chose images which showed how the tea in the cup changes colour progressively towards the final result. In the final image with the spoon I stirred up the tea and then took the image so that I got the pleasing highlights on the surface of the tea.

Post production was pretty easy. I took one image and using guide lines to help me make sure that the edge of the saucer to the edge of the image was the same all around - which is important when it came to quartering the image. Once sure that the saucer was in the centre of the image (remember the cup is off centre) I cropped it to the size that wanted. Then I dragged different image layers onto this initial image and changed the opacity of this new layer to 60% and aligned it exactly with the first image. I did this for all the layers so that they all aligned together perfectly. Then I cropped so that all layers were the same. The rest was simple - quarter, new image (black background), extract each layer to new image, position etc.

And finally, my wife had the resulting cup of tea and she said it tasted disgusting...

Note: This image won the Gold Cup in a Worth1000 Advanced Photography Competition in April 2007.

Queen Bess rock, Bedruthen steps, Cornwall.

Taken in the Alabama Hills, California. The brightest object above the Milky Way, to the right of the frame is Jupiter.

A stack of eighteen frames, the sky and foreground from the same frames. The rocks lit by an LED panel at its lowest setting. Tripod was a Manfrotto 190 CF, with a Manfrotto geared head.

After getting a really cheap, plasticy and unstable Monopod i decided to spend some money on something that would be much better.

So when i one day went to my local photo store i found this excellent model, its super stable!, built like a tank and worth the price i paid!

So the lesson is if you find a cheap and crappy monopod dont waste your hard earned money on it! Get the stuff that may cost a little more but will make you feel SO much better!

Golden hour at Lago Antorno

The Dom, as seen last night, captured with my "always on" camera, the EOS100D with the EF 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens. It's a camera/lens combo that is so easy to carry and delivers such amazing results. I used my Manfrotto 709B tabletop tripod, which is just as easy to bring along and allows for long exposure.

Certainly nothing too special, but a sight that makes me happy almost every evening.

Captured in RAW, minimal sharpening, lifting of shadows and definition added in Apple Aperture, plus straightening to get the towers of the cathedral perfectly vertical and minimal cropping.

Northern part of Texas has been having inclement weather for past two days. This shot is taken from balcony of my house in Frisco. Camera was mounted on Manfrotto cx4 tripod.

One suggestion I will give here is, always keep microfiber cloth, keep cleaning the front lens gently every few minutes as you never know when a sudden gush of wind or bit of strong wind can sprinkle rain on the front of your lens and thus ruin all subsequent shots.

I love catching the light right after a storm - especially when there are vibrant colours and mountains around. Storm lighting is interesting and can give such a beautiful glow. This was taken just around 2pm - on a normal bright day, this time would not give the beautiful lighting what we have here. Mix in some scattered heavy clouds and if you wait long enough, landscape magic happens!
