I have this nice Manfrotto 190 XPRO4 tripod but I so rarely actually use it. I know I should but I just haven't the discipline and I havent the resolve to develop the discipline.

But I am using it today.

another shot from on way up to lingmoor fell. i used the wall and stream as leading lines to the tarn.although no light initially came i really like the mood of the images i took during sunrise.

i had a drive upto honister pass yesterday before work as the fog looked to be pretty thick and new it make make for an interesting scene. upon arriving the fog was starting to lift but was still lingering at a slightly higher altitude. i really enjoy seeing the details of the water caused by the slightly long shutter speed as you can see just how the water carves its way through the landscape.

an edit from a morning spent around derwent water a while ago.otter island really suits the black and white treatment on this occasion as there was plenty of contrast in frame

Tearing, wrenching, slashing at my soul,

the demon within me is taking its toll,

I scream for my life and tear at my skull,

but no one can hear me for my world has gone dull.

Filling every breath with darkness and rage,

this creature within me poisons my veins.

The light grows dim on this fateful shore,

as the savage beast tears at my heart once more.

Finally giving in to the darkness, wrath, and pain,

the demon consumes me finally free of its chains.

Standing by seas in shadow uncaged at last,

the demon takes my soul with a hateful grin and says three words,

"mine at last".

Im very excited to finally post this photo for my collaboration with Joel. These past few weeks have been pretty hard with work and school and pretty much life taking a toll on my emotionally and physically and i really needed to shoot something that showed that. My collaboration with Joel not only combines images around a central theme but also poetry written about how we felt as well. This time we chose "Demons" as our theme and you can see his photo HERE.

Thank you so much for all the support lately i love you all so much. :)

ive walked passed these trees i dont know how many times and they have never really appealed to me. they normally conflict with the fells behind and make for a busy composition, but with the amount of cloud cover you get some really good contrast and separation.

this morning was filled with my 4th visit to catbells in as many weeks, the conditions previously werent as i had in mind, hence my continued effort to capture some decent light while up there. this morning was slightly different as i was lucky enough to experience some morning light while near the summit of the fell.

the light washed across the landscape for around 5 minutes which was more than enough time to blast off a few frames

hope you like it.

Continuation of images from my lucky morning along the Hudson River. We now have frozen water, snow and freezing temps.

October 18th 2007, has to be one of the best ever days i have ever had at Buttermere, it took all day to walk round the lake.......

Buttermere is a lake in the English Lake District in North West England. The adjacent village of Buttermere takes its name from the lake. Historically within the former county of Cumberland, the lake is now within the county of Cumbria. It is owned by the National Trust, forming part of their Buttermere and Ennerdale property.

The lake is 1.25 miles (2,010 m) by .25 miles (400 m) wide, and is 75 feet (23 m) deep.[1] It has an elevation above sea level of 329 feet (100 m). A place of considerable scenic value, it is situated towards the head of the valley of the River Cocker and is surrounded by fells, notably the High Stile range to the south west, Robinson to the north east, Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks to the south east and Grasmoor to the north west.

The village of Buttermere stands at the north western end of the lake, and beyond this is Buttermere's twin, Crummock Water. There is a path around the lake which is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) long, and at one point runs through a rock tunnel beneath the locality of Hasness. Access is by road, from Cockermouth in the north west; from Borrowdale via the Honister Pass; or from Braithwaite and the Newlands Valley via Newlands Hause.

There are two possible origins for the name "Buttermere":

One, that Buttermere means "the lake by the dairy pastures" (from the Old English "butere mere")

Two, that it is the corrupt form of a personal name. Robert Ferguson asserts in his 1866 work, "The Northmen in Cumberland and Westmoreland" that Buttermere derives from the Old Norse personal name "Buthar", as in "Buthar's mere" (lake). This accords with local tradition which says that the valley of Buttermere was part of the holdings of an 11th century Norse chieftain called "Buthar" (sometimes spelt "Boethar"). Large numbers of Vikings settled in Cumbria during the 9th and 10th centuries and many names in the area are of Norse origin; streams are termed becks, from the Old Norse bekkr, mountains are 'fells' from the Norse fjall, waterfalls forces "fos", ravines 'gills' , valleys "dales" from the ON dalr, and small lakes are termed tarns which derives from tjorn, meaning teardrop.

some go in and some come out

most of this morning was spent under a blanket of cloud being rained on for around two hours, but eventually the sun broke through the cloud and the distant fell lit up.

i headed out again this morning with the intention of taking some black and white images. i was reasonably certain the weather was going to be a bit miserable,i wasnt wrong. this was my second time up catbells and on both occasions i struggled to find a decent composition. i finally managed to fire off a few shots in portrait which really suits the scene and shows how rugged the top off this fell is under foot.
