More of the Rain approaching down the Honnister Pass.

Buttermere is a lake in the English Lake District in North West England. The adjacent village of Buttermere takes its name from the lake. Historically within the former county of Cumberland, the lake is now within the county of Cumbria. It is owned by the National Trust, forming part of their Buttermere and Ennerdale property.

The lake is 1.25 miles (2,010 m) by .25 miles (400 m) wide, and is 75 feet (23 m) deep.[1] It has an elevation above sea level of 329 feet (100 m). A place of considerable scenic value, it is situated towards the head of the valley of the River Cocker and is surrounded by fells, notably the High Stile range to the south west, Robinson to the north east, Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks to the south east and Grasmoor to the north west.

The village of Buttermere stands at the north western end of the lake, and beyond this is Buttermere's twin, Crummock Water. There is a path around the lake which is about 4.5 miles (7.2 km) long, and at one point runs through a rock tunnel beneath the locality of Hasness. Access is by road, from Cockermouth in the north west; from Borrowdale via the Honister Pass; or from Braithwaite and the Newlands Valley via Newlands Hause.

Fleetwith Pike is a fell in the English Lake District in the county of Cumbria which reaches a height of 648 metres (2,126 feet). The fell is a well-known feature of the area as it casts an imposing presence over Buttermere and the Honister Pass on the B5289 motor road between Borrowdale and Buttermere.

Fleetwith Pike is the north western shoulder of Grey Knotts. It is bounded by Honister Pass to the north and Warnscale Bottom to the south west, their two streams uniting beneath the fell in Buttermere. The north west ridge rising almost from the lakeshore at Gatesgarth is named Fleetwith Edge, and is a striking feature from any direction. The top of the fell is situated directly at the top of the edge, while a lower summit stands to the east atop Honister Crag. Fleetwith Pike is lined on all sides by impressive crags, other than for the broad plateau leading across the Drum House to Grey Knotts.

The fell itself is often climbed in conjunction with other neighbouring fells such as Haystacks and Grey Knotts; strong walkers may also take in the peaks of Great Gable and Green Gable. There are two possible starting points for the ascent of Fleetwith Pike: these are Gatesgarth in the Buttermere valley and the top of the Honister pass. Both places have car parks. The start from Honister Hause has the advantage of starting from a height of 356 metres (1,167 feet) and takes the walker through the quarry workings of the Honister Slate Mine and over Black Star, the highest point of Honister Crag at 630 metres (2,067 feet). Honister Crag was upgraded to become a Nuttall fell in November 2004, the first addition to the list since they were first published in 1990, it has 20 metres (67 feet) of topographical prominence from Fleetwith Pike. After crossing Honister Crag it is a simple walk to attain the top of Fleetwith Pike. The ascent from Gatesgarth goes up the intimidating-looking Fleetwith Edge, however all the crags can be by-passed without too much difficulty. This route goes past a white cross which is clearly visible from the valley and bears the inscription "Erected by Friends of Fanny Mercer, accidentally killed 1887".

This image, like the previous one, will be part of "reportage story" I have in preparation and will be titled "Stolen Innocence." The image and the result of a happy ending after a child who suffered beatings and abuse with violence and deprivation of food has recovered and is waiting to go live with another family.

I wanted to renew the warm thanks to the wonderful and friendly tutor who was very kind and helpful which I appreciated very much especially the love with which they carry out their commitment to children and a special thank you also and especially to Mother Sister Serafina.

L’innocenza rubata

.

In quel mondo in cui tu vivevi,

dove ostili erano pure i sorrisi,

c’era quella gente che tu credevi,

ti potessero essere….vicini.

Non c’erano carezze, ne baci,

ne abbracci e momenti belli, ma

di quel tenero amor preteso, erano

spesso solo torture e strazianti spaventi.

Stolen Innocence

.

In that world where you lived,

where the smiles were even hostile,

was that people who you believed,

you could be. ... neighbors.

There were no stroke, kisses it,

it hugs and good times, but

of that tender love demanded, were

often only torture and agonizing fears.

But suddenly those beautiful colors, that

gleamed with your candid thoughts

vanished from your delicate and palpitating heart,

sinking into your silent cries of pain.

The bitter your fate, for many near you,

unfortunately, is to duty, or be

a small, helpless and fragile child,

which ripped, stolen innocence is

under the eyes, often full of indifference.

The snow bunting is a medium size passerine bird. This passerine is a ground-dwelling species that walks, runs and could potentially jump if needed. It is fairly large and long-winged for a bunting. It measures 15 cm with a wingspan of 32–38 cm (13–15 in) and weights 30 to 40 grams. The bill is yellow with a black tip, and is all black in summer for males. The plumage is white in the underparts and the wings and back have black and white on them. The female and male have a different plumage.

A garden snail makes his way along the path in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. I believe this is a white-lipped snail (cepaea hortensis). They are quite common in our area and once we even kept a few as pets in a terrarium for about year. This was my first attempt to use some extension tubes that I acquired. I really had no idea how to adjust the exposure and the cell in the camera was dead. This is my second best shot from several attempts. I was not taking notes that day, but I believe that I just the #3 extension tube under a 50 mm lens.

One day in June, I decided to load up a couple of old cameras with some 135 format, black and white, film. One was a Nikon FTn with a 35 mm lens that I gave to me daughters. They are seven and nine years old, and were interested in learning some photography. I loaded a Spotmatic 1 for myself. I planned to shoot the whole roll with a 300 mm lens, but some of the shots were taken with other lenses.

Unfortunately, you can see a gentle scratch that was picked up on the scan of the film. I hate to squeegee my film after processing, since I very frequently damage the film. However, I always seem to keep making the same mistakes anyway. Old habits die hard.

Check out an album containing more of my photos shot in 2018.

Common greenshanks are brown in breeding plumage, and grey-brown in winter. When in water, they can appear very similar to marsh sandpipers but are distinguished by the shape of the lower bill which gives it an upturned appearance to the bill. They have long greenish legs and a long bill with a grey base. They show a white wedge on the back in flight. They are somewhat larger than the related common redshank. It´s a vagrant in Iceland and a new lifer for me species no. 155.

After getting a really cheap, plasticy and unstable Monopod i decided to spend some money on something that would be much better.

So when i one day went to my local photo store i found this excellent model, its super stable!, built like a tank and worth the price i paid!

So the lesson is if you find a cheap and crappy monopod dont waste your hard earned money on it! Get the stuff that may cost a little more but will make you feel SO much better!

Note: image taken with a Canon 5D mounted on a Manfrotto 055CB Professional Tripod - subject lit using natural light from a large window to the left of the flower. The weather was overcast diffusing the light. I angled the rose so that the light from the window produced rim lighting on the edges of the petals to ensure that they didn't merge together. The shadows on the other side were opened up with a large white reflector.

New Processing Method: processed in Adobe Camera RAW 4.3.1 & Photoshop CS3 using brand new methods which we have recently developed and this has resulted in a rather unique look to this red rose. If you compare this red rose with some of my others you will immediately see the differences. These new processing techniques have been specifically developed for red flowers.

- Image came second in the "RED, RED & RED!" Flower competition on the 4mazinGorgeouShots Flowers group during February 2008.

I took this image back in mid-September while spending five days touring around the beautiful coastline of East Lothian in Scotland. On this particular morning, I was driving towards the car park in the woodland area to park up and shoot down on the beach when I spotted this scene to my left. I just had to pull over and photograph the slowly rising sun that cast a gentle, golden light on the side of Tantallon Castle.

For those of you who have never heard of this castle, here's the usual Wikipedia blurb.

Tantallon Castle is a semi-ruined mid-14th-century fortress, located 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east of North Berwick, in East Lothian, Scotland. It sits atop a promontory opposite the Bass Rock, looking out onto the Firth of Forth. The last medieval curtain wall castle to be constructed in Scotland,[1] Tantallon comprises a single wall blocking off the headland, with the other three sides naturally protected by sea cliffs.

I hope you enjoy seeing what I saw.
