Dublin Docklands, Ireland at night. Long Exposure shots. I had my camera mounted on my Manfrotto 190 tripod.
I was hesitant to go out shooting this afternoon but I am really glad I did. The sunset was absolutely stunning!

Adult birds in summer have short red legs and a short black bill (small and stubby, meausuring 22–25 mm from the feathers, decidedly shorter than the head), a black neck (often with a pale gray back) and belly, very dark grey back, with a white rump and light grey (almost white) tail, which often looks 'square' in juveniles. Image taken with two Canon 580EX flashes, one on either side of the subject. Canon 5D mounted on a Manfrotto 055CB Professional Tripod, released by cable. Focus done in advance on the red counter so that when the dice fell on the same line I would be able to count on them being in focus. Dice dropped over the Snakes and Ladders board and shutter released as they fell. Hundreds of images were taken, few chosen.

I took several shots, using my old Manual Focus Nikon 500 f4P with a Nikon TC-301, to yield 1,000mm focal length. I had the lens assembly mounted on a HUGE Manfrotto studio tripod, that I modified with a hook at the bottom to suspend a 2kg weight, anything to minimize risk of vibration, then I used Mirror Up Mode and a Shutter Speed twice the Focal Length, just in case. That necessitated a very high, though undesirable ISO 6,400.
Then it was truly a balancing act between Noise cancellation and retaining sufficient sharpness and detail. That part of processing I hate.
So, this photo is the result of different processing efforts combined, blended into one image, to bring out the most detail with the least Noise.
I also took some photos of Saturn. I could see the Moons in Live View, when focus was sweet, but they did not turn out in the photo, intermingled with the Noise. I used that focus setting to take the last photo of the Moon, confident it was correct.

This Manfrotto tripod was bought by my parents in the beginning of the 90's with the video camera on it. I remember it quite well from my childhood and now it has been given a new life as I bought a DSLR recently. Strange how some things seem to be affected by time and others seemingly not.

Perched high above Burrator as the evening sun illuminates the surrounding landscape. Stunning weather conditions for Dartmoor!
Parts of the Burrator landscape, most notably Sheepstor, appear in the opening sequence of Steven Spielberg's 2011 theatrical movie 'War Horse'.

Reflections at Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, Ireland at night. Weather conditions were near ideal for reflections. It was a calm night and a clear moonlit sky. Long exposure taken with my Camera mounted on my Manfrotto 190 tripod.
Toronto, United Church.
Taken in February 22, Using Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 16-35 EF f2:8L USM II, f11, Manfrotto tripod.
7 different exposures processed in Photomatix Pro and Phtoshop SC5.
The timing of this one had to be perfect and after almost two years in the planning this is the shot I've had in my head since the last time we visited Arches National Park.
We headed up this short but strenuous hike during the heat of the afternoon sun. When we arrived, there were a good couple of hundred people all waiting for the sunset as this is one of the most iconic sights in the whole park.
Some just sitting and watching and some frantically running around trying to get the best spot for a photo. There was one group of Japanese guys who just couldn't make their mind up and were backwards and forwards with all their gear pretty much non stop. Inevitably the outcome of all this faffing around was that one guy, who obviously hadn't attached his camera to his tripod properly the previous time he moved all his gear, managed to drop his camera a good 150 feet down a steep rock face directly in front of us, it made an awful sound as it tumbled towards its death in the bushes below. The ironic thing about it was that his whole camera body and lens were covered in a camouflage housing meaning that he couldn't find it when he went down to retrieve it!
After sunset most people started to head off back down while we took up our pre-determined position carefully calculated using the photopills app many weeks beforehand.
We knew we then had to wait until 10pm when the moon had just dipped below the horizon and the Milky way had appeared directly above the Arch.
Lots of people were shining lights at the arch taking their own shots while we sat patiently waiting.
Just before 10pm there was just 3 of us left so I set up my manfrotto lights on their lowest setting, one about 150 feet away to the right and one about 60 feet to the left, both with 1/2 CTO filters.
And there it was, the shot I'd had in my head for nearly two years came to life on the back of the camera.
This is a six shot vertical panorama of the stunning Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, Moab. My spiritual home!
Enjoy!
another shot from on way up to lingmoor fell. i used the wall and stream as leading lines to the tarn.although no light initially came i really like the mood of the images i took during sunrise.

😉
It is only a matter of seconds, a very small scale that defines the time, but it undoubtedly becomes an eternal moment, when you get North stop light in a photograph.
A great adventure, full of feelings, emotions, laughter, joy and tears, because there you breathe, and step out of your world and let out the child in you while the light Boreal surpasses you, enlightens you, and look with emotion your camera, no matter what brand, no matter the goal, only to see something small on the screen, which gets to the heart, and the rest does not matter, smile and look at the sky.

The Gap
My first post on here for a long while, will have to make more of an effort.
Just back from a quick visit up Scotland to the wonderful Glencoe. The night before We left I had to make a plan to be at a location for sunrise, not too far away though so We were not getting up at stupid o'clock to get there. Anyway I decided on Sycamore Gap, which is on the way and is only just over an hours journey. Checked the weather...not bad, checked the sun angle using LighTrac on My Ipad...spot on, the sun will light up the hills as it rises. Even picked My spot using Google Street View. Now all that sounds perfect but You never really know how the conditions will be and change until You are there, at the time. Thankfully the planning paid off, the weather was good, the sun came up and lit the hills as I had hoped and the spot I picked was really ideal. Planning paid off....this time. Hope You Enjoy it, and please keep checking back as I have a few nice shots from Scotland to share with You all. Thanks!

i had a drive upto honister pass yesterday before work as the fog looked to be pretty thick and new it make make for an interesting scene. upon arriving the fog was starting to lift but was still lingering at a slightly higher altitude. i really enjoy seeing the details of the water caused by the slightly long shutter speed as you can see just how the water carves its way through the landscape.
