Managed to finish all of my tasks for the day. Offering myself a bit of time to commit to my daily ritual of indulging in this magnificent invention contained within this paper cup. Hot, Colombian, Black coffee. At this point I can't help but notice that the clock on my wall seems as though it's taking it's time as the day progresses. With everything done so early in the day, I can only sail through the hours like a lone wanderer looking for places to explore. As Fredrick Bajer once said, "Naturally, business and pleasure can be readily combined, but a certain balance should exist, and the latter should not predominate over the former." (Here I am thinking about work during my coffee break)
This short moment was brought to you by tbiley coffee break.
Managed to bump into the band Third Eye Blind. They were also getting a ride in the Bell 47's before performing for the opening night concert.

Managed to fit the mechanism in a boat I designed and it works! Still I'm hedging my bets and I'm adding a rudder! :-) Next up: a trip to the hobby shop to get batteries and R/C gear then a tank test to see if it floats!

I managed to get lost today. I got the No. 130 bus with the intention of visiting St. Annes Park but I did not know the the bus route had been changed due to extensive roadworks. The bus took a different route which bypassed the park. I got off the bus when I realised that the bus would not be going near the entrance that I normally use but I walked in the wrong direction for about a mile before I realised that I was going the wrong way. I eventually found the park but then my problem was how to get home.
The brothers Arthur and Benjamin Lee Guinness built up an estate of nearly 123.75 hectares from 1835 onwards in the Clontarf/Raheny area and called the estate St. Anne's after the Holy Well of the same name on the lands. Sir Arthur Edward Guinness (Lord Ardilaun) was the person most responsible for expanding and developing the estate and gardens and planted evergreen (Holm) oaks and pines along the main avenue and estate boundaries.
Lord and Lady Ardilaun had no children and the estate passed to their nephew Bishop Plunkett in the 1920s. In 1937, he decided he could no longer maintain such a large estate and negotiations with the Corporation resulted in the house and estate being sold to the Corporation for approximately £55,000 in 1939.

DATA IS THE INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE DIGITAL AGE.
And publicly available data can now illuminate solutions to challenges like no other time in our history. There is no single entity that collects and manages more data than government. Unfortunately, many of the systems and processes that collect this data have not kept up with the demand and the potential for it.
The world-wide Open Data movement asks government entities of all sizes to make their data—a public asset—available to developers and entrepreneurs so its potential can be realized.
Go Code Colorado is taking a lead position in this movement.
The first and only statewide effort of its kind, Go Code Colorado brings together a community of entrepreneurs, business partners, and developers to make use of public data through a series of events. These events center around a challenge weekend in five cities across the state, engaging the entire state in two days of innovation around the use of public data. Teams in each of the five cities compete to build apps that use public data to help businesses make smarter decisions. Two teams from each city move on in the competition, getting help from a network of mentors—including a mentorship weekend in Boulder—as they further develop their ideas. The teams come back together again for a final event where they pitch their ideas to judges.
The three teams deemed the best are awarded a contract with the state—an invaluable first customer to a fledgling business that provides critical initial revenue.
Go Code Colorado is an initiative through the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, which seeks to return value to Colorado businesses from business registration fees they collect. In its inaugural year, this is the value Go Code Colorado returned to our state:
COMMUNITY BUILDING AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
Go Code Colorado increased civic engagement in the business, entrepreneurial, and tech communities.
Business leaders volunteered their time across the event series because they desire more access to government data—they know how important this is.
Dozens of business leaders volunteered a day with Go Code Colorado organizers to define the problems they face that public data can help solve.
179 people attended the Kickoff event.
130 people and 25 teams competed in the challenge weekend across Colorado (Boulder, Denver, Ft. Collins, Colorado Springs, and Durango).
The Mentor Weekend brought together 23 mentors to meet with ten teams.
The Final event attracted 223 people.
29 businesses supported open data and Go Code Colorado through $75,000 in cash donations and $120,000 worth of in-kind donations.
Companies like Google, Esri, SendGrid, Rally Software and Gnip (now Twitter)
TECH AND BUSINESS INNOVATION
Go Code Colorado is the most concerted effort in the state to increase the volume of public data in the state’s central repository.
33 new data sets were published as a result of last year’s efforts by agencies such as Revenue, Local Affairs, and Higher Education.
At least three businesses were created around three apps that use this data.
For instance, the winning team, Beagle Score created an app that helps provide a scorecard for business site-location decisions.
Beagle Score relies on many public data sets, including:
Business Registration dataset
City Taxes
County Taxes
Crime Statistics
NREL energy statistics
Traffic counts
Nearest Intersection
Energy rates and providers
Broadband service
and more
PROCUREMENT INNOVATION
Go Code Colorado is flipping traditional government procurement on its head, creating value to Colorado businesses and society.
According to the Standish Group, 94% of large federal IT projects over the past ten years were unsuccessful. Over 50% were delayed, over budget, or didn’t meet user expectations, and 41% failed completely.
Go Code Colorado challenges developers and entrepreneurs to solve business problems using public data by awarding companies who create working apps, not those with just a promise to do so.
GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY AND TRANSPARENCY
Go Code Colorado imagines a day when pulling a data report is a matter of a few pop up menu selections, and doesn’t require specialized knowledge, when data managers across government are able to focus on the work they do best and anyone can access the public data they collect and curate.
This is the promise of open data, and the step forward taking place with Go Code Colorado.

Itâd be an understatement to say that Cannizaro House has 'a little history'. An Edwardian mansion with grounds sprawled out across 34 acres of Cannizaro Park on the South Side of Wimbledon Common, Cannizaro House is choicely located amongst the surprisingly rural wonders of South West London. Pram pushing yuppie yummy mothers (rubber baby buggy bumpers), rolling green parkland and a spot not all that far from the All England Club (home to the Wimbledon Tennis). Originally built back in the 18th century, this country house has played host to some VERY exciting people; a list that includes the likes of Oscar Wilde and Lord Tenyson, no less!
But less history, more culinary commentary. In June 2015 Hotel Du Vin took over, hoping to make their mark where previous owners the Thistle Group and Bridge House Hotels had not. Whether Hotel Du Vin manage to pull off this audacious feat of high end hoteliership (not sure this is a word) still remains to be seen - but theyâve already put their stamp on the food, thatâs for sure. There's three ways you can eat at Cannizaro House; a la carte at the Bistro, al fresco at The Orangery or more drinks/less food at the Lounge Bar. Tasting Britain went for option B, observing (through floor to ceiling windows), as clouds turned to rain turned to the deepest ultramarine. Beautiful! As I understand it, the food is consistent across all three areas, which means reasonable portions of hearty French faire supplied by the Bistro and a rather weighty wine list too. As you can probably see, these guys sure love their champagne houses!
And how about Hotel Du Vin? They got started way back in 1994, opening their first hotel in Winchester. Since such halcyon days theyâve kept themselves busy, opening another 15 or so - all over the country. I think the most recent Hotel Du Vin is to be found St. Andrews, supposedly âthe home of golfâ. Say what you will about Hotel Du Vin Wimbledon/Cannizaro House but the views and ambiance are absolutely incomparable. This is nothing less than living history, with a bar inside it!
