Managed to slip away early this evening to see the Queen Elizabeth sail on her maiden voyage.

I've never seen the Victoria Road car park full before.

There was a huge crowd on Weston Shore.

I walked out onto Woolston Jetty with about half a dozen hardier folks. The wind was freezing down on the water. We were surpirsed you are actually allowed to walk to the end of the jetty without security guards ejecting you.

Within minutes of arriving I realised I should have gone to Hythe. The ship was the other side of the pier and the sun was setting so I was shooting into it. Also she was escorted by one of the Red Funnel ferries which got in the way.

Mind you I could also see that Hythe Marina was full to bursting and likely to sink under the weight of the crowd.

It too 45 mins to get out of Woolston afterwards because of the unusually busy traffic.

Managing Water and Land Resources for Sustainable Livelihoods at the Interface between Fresh and Saline Water Environments in Vietnam and Bangladesh

The project had five specific objectives:

1.To enhance their understanding of livelihood changes resulting from regional resources management and farm-level technological interventions.

2.

To assess the impacts of agricultural and aquacultural land and water uses on water quality, aquatic biodiversity, and inland fisheries.

3.

To develop ecologically friendly and socially acceptable techniques for rice and rice-aquaculture production systems.

4.

To develop decision-support tools and an institutional framework for integrated multipurpose management of a dual fresh- and brackish-water regime to meet the needs of diverse water users, without an adverse impact on users and the environment outside.

5.

To enhance human resources capacity and develop recommendations for resources management at the farm and regional level.

I managed to get most everything unpacked today. I even hauled some stuff down to my storage unit and got groceries. Then I was in need of a bit of relaxation.

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

On the far riverbank just above Paper Mill Lock.

Coppicing is a traditional method of woodland management in which young tree stems are repeatedly cut down to near ground level. In subsequent growth years, many new shoots will emerge, and, after a number of years the coppiced tree, or stool, is ready to be harvested, and the cycle begins again.

Typically a coppiced woodland is harvested in sections or coups[1] on a rotation. In this way, a crop is available each year somewhere in the woodland. Coppicing has the effect of providing a rich variety of habitats, as the woodland always has a range of different-aged coppice growing in it, which is beneficial for biodiversity. The cycle length depends upon the species cut, the local custom, and the use to which the product is put.

A minority of these woods are still operated for coppice today, often by conservation organisations, producing material for hurdle-making, thatching spars, local charcoal-burning or other crafts. Withies for wicker-work are grown in coppices of various willow species, principally osier.

I managed to make just about everyone look really horrible in this picture. I hate using the flash. My mom's real big and bright in the front, next to her is Clara the younger of the mother-daughter Swede team, and next to Clara is Christina, her mom. On the end is Pia, the single Swedish lady, and next to her is Mariann, one of the Swedish couple (the other one isn't shown, he's sitting next to Mom). Then Alessandra, the Italian lady, and Tim our Fearless Leader. Not shown are the other American couple, but they're in the next picture...
