Managing waste and public space project is designed by Dunga Ecotourism and Environmental Youth Group to address the menace of waste in Dunga Beach, a growing tourist destination and a major fish landing site in Kisumu, Kenya. This we shall achieve by constructing bottle brick benches in the public spaces at the beach providing a lasting solution to plastic and polythene waste management at the beach and beyond. The bottle bricks are made by stuffing waste polythene into plastic bottles hence reliving the environment of the non biodegradable materials.

The construction work of the Real Alcázar started in 913 AD, under the Cordovan caliphate of Abderrahmán III an-Násir. Three centuries later, caliph Al-Mutamid had various palaces added to the original construction.

When the Christians conquered the city in the 13th century, King Alfonso X of Castile got the Gothic palace built, whereas, a century later, Peter I had a Mudejar palace added to the already-majestic architecture of the Alcazar, the most famous hall being the Hall of Ambassadors. In 1477, the Catholic Monarchs chose the Alcazar as their residence, and in 1526, the marriage between Charles V and Isabella of Portugal was celebrated in the Hall of Ambassadors.

The Alcázar became the official residence of the Spanish monarchy in 1823 until 1931 when the palace was claimed by politician Indalecio Prieto to be managed independently by the citizens. The Real Alcázar made it to the World Heritage Site list, together with the Cathedral and the Archive of Indias, in 1987.

Couldn't help throwing in a Harry Potter reference. We're going home today! (7/29/07)

I managed to catch the hawks that are brought to trafalgar square; each individual photo came out well, but I thought that this'd be a good excersize in photomanipulation.

What I particulary like about this is as the sequential shots had equal time periods, you can see the acceleration by the increasingly large gaps as it takes off. I rather like connecting my physics and maths lessons to my art.

Turning Vision Into Reality

Nothing could dampen the spirits of the 17-year-old who wanted to open his company in spite of Indian laws disallowing it, due to age bar. His cousin joined hands with him and that’s how his first company Educell came into existence.

Reminisces Shreyansh, “The decision to get into education business was taken carefully by considering all the statistics and data available – 25 percent IITians join financial firms, 20-25 percent get into marketing, 20 percent into consulting, 20 percent into applied engineering and 5-7 percent get into core engineering. These calculations showed us the opportunities in entrepreneurship in the education sector. We realized that India has only a few premiere institutes and students of small towns are unable to reach them due to lack of proper mentoring.”

Through his series of books, his company minted great revenue in a very short span and Sjain series, that unveiled the strategies followed by top IITians, became an overnight success. A year later, Shreyansh opened a company called QEA Eduventure Private Limited.

The new firm started reaping rich dividends and his bank balance started swelling. Driven by the desire to excel in life, he diversified his business to launch DMS Infosystems Pvt. Ltd. at the age of 19 and then his media firm, Next Generation Media (NGM).

Transcending Barriers

The family, understandably, was not happy with Shreyansh’s choice to earn while he was studying. His father completed Ph.D. from IIT-Mumbai while his son was pursuing graduation, but he was far from supportive. Some of the partnerships, despite doing well in revenues, proved disempowering, so he has to start all over again with heavy liabilities.

In Pierrot and skeleton in a Yellow Robe Ensor managed to combine his interest for the still life and his predilection for travesty in a rather original manner. The still life-like setting is transgressed. As a result, the painting takes on a fantastic character and ‘dead objects’ function like living organisms. From a stylistic point of view this work is also very characteristic of Ensor. During the 1890s Ensor liked to paint on smaller canvases. In these more intimate works the graphic element is more obvious, as is the case in this painting. The colours are clear and fresh, thus tempering the subject’s morbid dimension to some extent, in favour of the grotesque and the fantastic. In this work imagination, the clear use of colour and Ensor’s technical potential all come together marvelously.
